If there’s one studio that has always been good to horror fans it’s the Gate. Since Saw broke loose in 2004, the mini major has been pumping out genre product in fist fulls.
Last year was no different as they released the incredible high concept slasher The Cabin in the Woods, as well as the Sam Raimi produced Possession and the Battle Royale-esque The Hunger Games.

A harrowing film that features Shawn Ashmore (Frozen, Mother’s Day, X-Men), Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism), Michael Eklund (The Divide), Cory Hardrict (Gran Torino, Battle: Los Angeles), Dominic Monaghan (ABC’s “Lost”, Lord of the Rings Trilogy) and Shannyn Sossamon (One Missed Call, A Knight’s Tale).
In the post-apocalyptic thriller, “A group of five survivors, armed with shotguns, axes and machetes, wander the back roads of a ravaged landscape looking for refuge in The Day, a terrifying look into a post-apocalyptic future. As war ravages humanity, destroying civilization and most of life on earth, the survivors realize they must do whatever it takes to stay alive. Lost, starving, and exhausted, they seek shelter in a seemingly safe abandoned farmhouse. Today I spoke at length with director Doug Aarniokoski about his upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller The Day and, while I’ll be sharing my full interview with him next week closer to that film’s release, I figured I’d go ahead and let you in on some juicy tidbits he dropped regarding Nurse 3D.
We’ve shown you some tantalizing imagery from the film (which stars Paz De La Huerta, Katrina Bowden, Corbin Bleu, Boris Kodjoe, Dita Von Teese, Adam Herschman, Neal McDonough, Niecy Nash and Nick Turturro), and now we have a rundown on exactly how crazy it is.
When I asked him what he was surprised to have gotten away with on the film he answered, “The amount of sexuality and combined violence. It was really [nuts]. It’s that kind of movie where you’re like, “how can I portray this and get away with it?” It was about bringing it to the screen in a way that was engaging, erotic, dangerous, scary, nasty and brutal all at the same time. That was the dance for me.”

Earlier this morning I received an extremely cool package from the good folks at Lionsgate. What was inside was brand new Nurse 3D art with a letter that says it’s a limited edition collectible with only 100 in print.
Inspired by the highly controversial Time cover from this past May, Marketing Exec. and photographer Tim Palen created an absolutely gorgeous and artistic new Nurse 3D poster that’s extremely NOT WORK SAFE. Shot in black and white, the eye-catching art features a man about to suckle on a breast. Hopefully it belongs to Paz De La Huerta… The studio has always been on the forefront of bold, sophisticated, and astoundingly artistic advertising for their genre film. We’ve included some previous works from the Saw “Nurse” posters to one-sheets from the Saw and Hostel films, all released by Lionsgate.

“30 Rock” sex bomb Katrina Bowden is featured on the cover of this month’s Maximum magazine where she talks about her upcoming horror roles. Having already starred in Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Bowden can also be seen in Dimension Films’ upcoming Piranha 3DD and Lionsgate’s Nurse 3D. That’s a hole lotta 3-D.
In speaking to the mag, she says this about Doug Aarniokoski’s Nurse 3D, which also features Paz De La Huerta, Corbin Bleu, Boris Kodjoe, Dita Von Teese, Adam Herschman, Neal McDonough, Niecy Nash, and Nick Turturro.
“It’s definitely different from what I’ve done. It’s kind of like “Dexter” meets Single White Female. Paz de la Huerta and I are both nurses. But she’s a serial killer, and she kind of becomes obsessed with me.”

While I was on the set of Resident Evil: Retribution yesterday in Toronto we had a chance to sit down with Boris Kodjoe who plays Luther West in the film. While I can’t say anything about Retribution yet, it appears the filming of Doug Aarniokoski’s Nurse 3D, had quite the effect on him.
Context is everything, when the words came out of his mouth he looked like a man who had been to war – and was glad to be back.
When asked about Nurse 3D he offered “Yeah, that was interesting. That was very interesting. It’s a completely different movie. NURSES is like a I don’t even know what that is. It’s like a sociopathic sort of crime thriller with lots of blood and gore. I don’t like to be stuck in one specific genre, because if it’s one specific genre I’ll get to play that specific character over and over again. So I was looking forward to doing something different, which I did in ‘Nurse’”
Are you one of the unfaithful guys the Nurse comes after? “ I play the detective who’s after her.”
It sounds wild. “It is very wild. To say the least.”
Nurse 3D also stars Paz De La Huerta, Katrina Bowden and Corbin Bleu. De La Huerta (“Boardwalk Empire”) plays Abby, a nurse who uses her sexuality to indulge a sinister side that finds her punishing dishonest men. Bleu will play Bowden’s boyfriend, a paramedic at the hospital who becomes entangled in Abby’s murderous web.

It looks as if IMDB was in fact correct with two of the three names joining Lionsgate’s Nurse 3D, their slasher being helmed by Doug Aarniokoski.
Both Boris Kodjoe (Resident Evil: Afterlife) and Adam Herschman (Accepted, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay) have in fact joined the shooting cast, alongside Neal McDonough (The Hitcher, Captain America), Niecy Nash (“American Dad! ,” “Reno 911″) and Nick Turturro (Hellraiser: Inferno). They join the previously announced Paz De La Huerta, Katrina Bowden and Corbin Bleu. Dita Von Teese will NOT be starring.
