5 Great Alternate Horror Posters!!!

This list is directly inspired by a post I did a few months back that featured 11 Alternate Horror Posters from Thailand. As I was looking this over last night and enjoying the artwork once again, I thought, “well of course there’s a sh*tload more of these out there.” They don’t only have to be from Thailand. So this morning I did some digging and found a few more that I liked.

There’s something about an alternate poster for a movie you love, especially if it’s a one-sheet you’ve never seen before. It can give you a little extra boost, some new imagery that you already have a positive association with. A foreign poster can also be a cool window into how other cultures experience (and market) your favorite films.

The great thing about this is that you never run out of them. There’s tons of horror movies and even more countries to release them in. So, every once in a while, let’s check in and see what comes up. If you come across something to share, send it to
[email protected], and if we use it we’ll credit you in the piece!

In the meantime, head inside to check out a gallery of foreign posters for The Thing, Return Of The Living Dead, A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge, The Cabin In The Woods and Halloween. I particularly like how the Japanese Halloween poster at least as much English text in the image as the American one. READ MORE

New ‘Frankenweenie’ Posters A Throwback To The Creature Feature!

In Tim Burton’s absolutely fantastic Frankenweenie (read my review), a young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences. In theaters October 5, Walt Disney Pictures has decided to tease the various “monsters” of Frankenweenie. Meet the several creations in these new throwback monster posters!

The voice cast includes four actors who worked with Burton on previous films: Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands), Catherine O’Hara (Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas), Martin Short (Mars Attacks!) and Martin Landau (Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow), while Charlie Tahan and Atticus Shaffer were later added. Over 200 puppets and sets were created for the film, and that several of the character names—Victor, Elsa Van Helsing, Edgar “E” Gore and Mr. Burgermeister— were inspired by classic horror films.

A heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

A stop-motion animated film, ‘Frankenweenie’ was filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which elevates the classic style to a whole new experience.READ MORE

Darkshadowsland32012 Dark Shadows Gets Some Not So Dark Character Posters

The media blitz for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows is in full swing. We’ve had posters, images, multiple trailers and now we have a look at nine uber-colorful character one-sheets for the film. The characters played by Eva Green, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Johnny Lee Miller, Gully McGrath, Bella Heathcote, Helena Bonham Carter and Jackie Earle Haley are all highlighted here.

In theaters May 11 “The story focuses on Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp), who was transformed into a vampire by a jilted lover (Eva Green’s witch Angelique) way back in the 1700s and buried. He’s just been dug up, and attempts to reintegrate with his descendants, led by Michelle Pfeiffer’s Elizabeth and Jonny Lee Miller’s Roger – despite the fact that Angelique is still around and still not in a forgiving mood.

British Mutation ‘Inbred’ Gets Full Trailer

After causing local uproar during production (back last May), we brought you the first ever photos and art for Alex Chandon Inbred, a new indie that premiered at last summer’s Frightfest UK starring Jo Hartley, Seamus O’Neill, James Doherty, James Burrows, Nadine Mulkerrin, Neil Leiper, and Terry Haywood.

The pic follows a disparate group of young urban offenders and their care workers embark on a community service weekend in the strange, remote Yorkshire village of Mortlake, which prides on keeping itself to itself. A minor incident with some locals rapidly escalates into a blood-soaked, deliriously warped nightmare for all involved.

This afternoon the FULL trailer was finally revealed, while you’ll find more at the film’s official website or Facebook. No word on a release date yet. READ MORE

Vampire Fanning Centerpiece of International ‘Twixt’ Poster

There’s one thing Twixt has going for it, and that’s the foresight to have cast Elle Fanning in one of the lead roles. The star of Super 8 is being used as the centerpiece of the international campaign as her creepy vampiric image is up front and center. If only the movie was as chilling….

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, the film was intended to hit the States as a roadshow where Coppola was going to edit the film “live” for the audience. No editing can save this film, which is probably why it has yet to hit cinemas.

Val Kilmer stars as “a writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He’s unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated.READ MORE

Three New (Kind of Hilarious) Posters For ‘The Reverend’!

ReverendLand120811 Three New (Kind of Hilarious) Posters For The Reverend!

Last month we gave you a look at the teaser for The Reverend, and a heads up that the official website had been launched.

Now we have a look at a few posters from the film, and I gotta say, the main one-sheet has me laughing non-stop. Awesome!

Directed by writer Neil Jones, Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, Hobo With a Shotgun) will star alongside Stuart Brennan (Risen), Tamer Hassan (Clash of the Titans), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser, Jack Falls), Emily Booth (Doghouse, Evil Aliens) and Giovanni Lombardo Radice (Cannibal Ferox, The Omen).

Fresh from seminary school a new Reverend embarks on his first parish. A small, low maintenance Chapel based in the quiet idyllic setting of a quiet country village. While on the surface the village seems to be a peaceful parish, with perfect residents, soon it becomes apparent that something more sinister lurks beneath the façade of a local businessman. On a wet, cold night a mysterious girl visits The Reverend at the chapel. Cold and upset she is welcomed in warmly, soon it becomes apparent that her visit is not for sanctuary but to deliver a message, a message in the form of a deep, bloody bite… Awoken with an unknown, uncontrollable thirst a confused Reverend can find no evidence of the girl from the night before, with nothing but the thirst and memory of the bite, The Reverend embarks on his mandate, to clean up the village and the neighbouring estate, by preaching or feasting.

The Waring Signs of ‘The Darkest Hour’

Summit Entertainment is mimicking the District 9 viral campaign with a series of fun “Warning Signs” from The Darkest Hour created to evoke the new realities the characters face in a post-invasion world, populated by an invisible enemy bent on exterminating all life. The unique alien invaders pose a particularly lethal challenge as they are made up of invisible wave energy with their presence unveiled only via nearby activated electrical systems.

Directed by Chris Gorak, “ ‘Darkest Hour’ is the story of five young people who find themselves stranded in Moscow, fighting to survive in the wake of a devastating alien attack.” The 3D thriller is said to highlight the classic beauty of Moscow alongside mind-blowing special effects.

Super Unoriginal “Paranormal” Posters for ‘Ward 8′

When you lack all creative impulses you mimic something successful that you admire.

Such the case with Dominic Burns’ indie UK production Ward 8, which laughably proclaims it “an exciting new paranormal film.

The official Facebook has launched featuring two posters that blatantly ripoff Paramount Pictures’ Paranormal Activity one sheets for the past three years. They’re either super lazy or super boring people without an original thought in their head. Can you imagine what the movie is going to be like? I wouldn’t be shocked if it borrowed everything from the PA films. F- READ MORE

*Hi-Res added: In theaters May 25 from Columbia Pictures is Barry Sonnenfeld’s Men in Black 3, their extremely troubled production that stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Jemaine Clement, Josh Brolin and Emma Thompson.

Jones has a smaller role this time around though, as the film finds Will Smith traveling back in time to 1969 in order to save a young Agent K (Josh Brolin) and avert a world-ending disaster.

Teaser posters have begun surfacing at cineplex’s around the country, and both are quite eye-catching. Check out a look at a stylized Smith and Lee Jones inside. READ MORE

I Hate These ‘Fright Night’ Character Posters

The international branch of Dreamworks has released a quartet of character posters for Fright Night 3D, their forthcoming remake of Tom Holland’s classic that arrives here in the States on August 19 (UK on September 2).

First, the one sheets look like a cross between a “True Blood” promotion and something MTV would release surrounding “Teen Wolf.” Second, does anybody give a lick that Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Toni Collette or David Tennant star? Basically the images say nothing about the movie, and look more like cheesy collector’s cards from 1989 that came with a stale stick of gum than something professional.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, “Charlie Brewster (Yelchin) is a high school senior who’s on top of the world–that is until Jerry (Farrell) moves in next door and Charlie discovers that he is a vampire preying on the neighborhood.

Character Posters for ‘Aliens’-inspired ‘Sector 7′

Being that it’s being described as an homage to James Cameron’s Aliens, I’m quite excited for CJ Entertainment’s (The Host, Thirst, and many, many more) Korean creature feature Sector 7 (Mining Area 7), which previously released a trailer that definitely has characteristics of Cameron’s epic sci-fi horror flick. Alongside the previous released imagery, a Korean website has now unloaded a trio of character posters that can be found inside. Hopefully it’ll premiere this year at one of the many forthcoming film festivals.

Directed and produced by Kim Ji-hoon, the pic will be 3-D and is about a mutated creature runs amok in an oil prospecting ship. Ha Ji-won, who also starred in Youn’s disaster film Haeundae, will rejoin. Director Youn said that Mining Area 7 will be a Korean equivalent of the Alien films and the 3D visual will mainly be realized by converting, but considerable amount of footage will be shot in 3D from the beginning.
