Israeli metal band Orphaned Land has released the album artwork and track listing for their upcoming album All Is One, which comes out June 25th in N. America via Century Media Records. The artwork, which was done by French artist Metastazis (Paradise Lost, As I Lay Dying) incorporates the three biggest religious symbols into one piece of art (I foresee more than a few tattoos coming from this). All Is One is the followup to 2010′s The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR. You can see the artwork and track listing below. READ MORE
Israeli progressive metal band Orphaned Land has announced that their upcoming sixth studio album All Is One will be released June 25th in N. America (June 24th in Europe) via Century Media Records. This album will be the followup to 2010′s The Neverending Way of ORwarriOR (review).
Singer Kobi Farhi states, “I’ll say it plain and simple – ‘All Is One’ is Orphaned Land’s best album so far, I feel that we took all aspects to a new level – the way we write, arrange, play and produce. We recorded the album in 3 countries (Turkey, Sweden & Israel) and it turned out so strong, we can’t stop listening to it. The album is very rich with more than 40 people participating (singer choirs, many violins, and many traditional instruments too). Our secret in the band was always the fact that unlike many other bands, Orphaned Land doesn’t follow ONE master mind that writes everything, we work in a way that All Is One. We create our music in a perfect blend of synergy and harmony and all the band members are a part of this process, we translate the album’s title and message exactly in the way we work, and we always hope we could give a bit of an inspiration to the people in the tragic Middle Eastern lands. We have fans all over the Middle East, we live in a place where huge amounts of people who consider themselves to be enemies still share one thing in common, they are all fans of Orphaned Land, and in these lands of orphans and bloody holy wars our only weapon is music, and hopefully we will grow to understand that All Is One.” READ MORE
I’m a huge fan of Pearl Jam‘s song “Black”. It’s a tragic, beautiful song that I will never, ever get tired of hearing. That’s why I was so intrigued to hear this cover done by Orphaned Land guitarist Yossi Sassi with Kokhav Nolad (the Israeli version of Pop Idol) winner Diana Golbi on vocals. It’s very much the same song but with a lot of Middle Eastern influences injected into it. It’s a unique spin on the song and one that grows on me more and more with each listen. Plus, Golbi has one hell of a voice. Check it out below. READ MORE
A movement has sprung up online to see if Israeli progressive metal band Orphaned Land can be nominated and win the Nobel Peace Prize. While not an overtly political band, the group has always strived to promote peace between nations. Utilizing English, Hebrew, and Arabic lyrics as well as musical styles from the Middle East mixed with heavy metal, the band has always aimed to be a positive force in the musical world.
Singer Kobi Farhi states, “This is my personal request to all my friends from the Middle East, Turkey, and in general from all my Muslim friends! We know for a long time now that we are above politics, we know that if it was in our hands, peace would have prevailed right away. And so we finally come to the headliner of the Night Over North America tour: Katatonia! Earlier, we posted an interview with Mikko and Kai of Swallow The Sun as well as one with Yossi of Orphaned Land. Today, we’ve got an exclusive interview with Anders Nyström and Per “Sodomizer” Eriksson of Katatonia! We discuss how the Night Over North America tour was going, the status on a new Katatonia album and, of course, their love of horror (which is very high up there!). Check after the jump for the exclusive video interview!
Yesterday, I posted an exclusive interview with Mikko and Kai of Swallow The Sun that was taken during the Night Over North America Tour, with tour partners Orphaned Land and Katatonia. That day, I also had the opportunity to chat with guitarist Yossi Sa’aron of Orphaned Land, who I had the privilege of interviewing almost a year ago while visiting in Israel. We tackled such topics as their opening for Metallica earlier this year, how the tour is going and, most importantly, how the past several months of Middle East news has affected Orphaned Land during their touring, including an incident in France where their tour bus had a swastika drawn onto it. It only seemed fitting that as I drove to a doom/death metal show, headlined by Katatonia, Orphaned Land and Swallow The Sun, that I should drive through some of the more run down areas of Detroit. Crumbling buildings, burnt shells of houses, stores with thick metal fences covering the windows, and people walking the streets with hopeless looks in their eyes. It was a precursor to the emotional undercurrent of the music that I was to hear that night.
I was reading through Blabbermouth earlier and came across this news post that excited me so much, I just had to share it with all of you. Katatonia will be touring the U.S. with Swallow The Sun and Orphaned Land as openers. ‘Night is the New Day’ was one of my favorite releases of last year and is still an album that I spin regularly. Orphaned Land was a band that I had the pleasure of interviewing while I was in Israel and I can honestly say that they are class act guys. You can be sure that I will be seeing them in Detroit!
Israeli progressive folk metal band Orphaned Land have just released a ‘Making Of’ video showing how their video for ‘Sapari’, off of ‘The Neverending Way of ORwarriOR, was created. CLICK HERE to check out the video!
Late last year, while in Israel, I was fortunate enough to interview Orphaned Land and then stick around to see them in action at a concert in Tel Aviv. It was a great experience and I walked away feeling very excited for the follow up to the 2004 album, Mabool. And now, The Neverending Way of ORwarriOR is finally out.
The first thing I noticed was the incredible rise in production value. While Mabool was an amazing album that was a musical journey, the sound quality was often a bit painful and piercing. But not on The Neverending Way of ORwarriOR. With Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Opeth, No-Man) behind the mixing board, the overall sound quality rose dramatically. Each instrument is clearly definable and the subtle ambiences are beautifully placed in the mix. READ MORE
Israel’s ORPHANED LAND pioneered Middle Eastern metal music and their highly anticipated fourth studio opus The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR is now available everywhere. It’s a sophisticated concept album taking ORPHANED LAND’s unique brand of exotic, heavy music to soaring new heights in terms of complexity and catchiness. READ MORE
While in Israel, visiting family and friends, I got in touch with the Israeli Progmetal band Orphaned Land to discuss their beginning, present, and what their future plans hold. This interview was also before a Tel Aviv show on December 16th, 2009.
Once the interview was over, I was able to stay and watch Orphaned Land play a show in Barbie, a venue in Tel Aviv. Over 1,000 people packed themselves into a smaller venue to watch the show and they were very greatly rewarded. The show was, in many ways, very understated. There was little in the way of a light show, no pyrotechnics and no fancy stage devices. The band put on one hell of a show solely relying on their presence and the strength of their music. The crowd was also an amazing thing to watch. Israelis seem to love participating at concerts much more so than at any U.S. concert I’ve been to (and trust me, I’ve been to a lot). The whole crowd cheered, sang and clapped along as well as jumping in rhythm to nearly every song. Each new song was greeted with enthusiastic cheers and the announcement of a song from the new album about to be played was wildly celebrated.
Overall, the experience was truly a great time and when these guys come to the States, rest assured that I’ll be at the Detroit show, bringing several friends along to enjoy the experience.
