Pacific Rim

Set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Just How Big Are the ‘Pacific Rim’ Monsters? THIS Big.

We live in a time of monsters, teases this new promo image from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. The still also shares a look at one of the film’s monsters, which really gives perspective as to how large they are.

New ‘Pacific Rim’ Trailer Has More Monster Action Than Ever Before!!

This is what I’m talking about. Warner Bros. have just released what they’re calling the “main trailer” for Pacific Rim and it’s f*cking monstrous! This – even more than the awesome Wondercon Trailer – has my dying to see the film. I love the color, I love the imagery and I love those damn Kaiju.

In theaters July 12 from director Guillermo del Toro, “When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. Here’s An Enormous Preserved Kaiju Skull From ‘Pacific Rim’

Warner Bros. have just released a new Pacific Rim image via Twitter that puts an enormous Kaiju skull on display in what looks like a museum! The tagline reads, “What once evoked fear now inspires awe.”

Also check out some new evidence of the first Kaiju attack on August 11th, 2013; the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco appears to have taken some serious damage.

[Give It A Kickstart] “Kill All Monsters”

Gearing up for Pacific Rim? Well, there’s another giant monster vs. giant robot story that’s also causing some ruckus called “Kill All Monsters”. The comic book comes from the minds of Michael May (writer for Robot 6) and artist Jason Copland (“Murder Book”) and their shared love for massive monsters. The Kickstarter campaign is almost over, but there’s still time to give a last minute pledge. The first volume follows the Kill Team as they travel to Europe to investigate rumors of another group of monster fighters. Unfortunately for them, they run into the biggest, badest monsters yet. THE MOST EPIC BANNER OF ALL TIME: ‘PACIFIC RIM’

Warner Bros. has just released the most epic theatrical banner of all time, using a series of monsters and robots from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim to complete the spread. It’s so large you could wrap it around the entire planet (not true).

Guillermo del Toro Made A Special Japanese ‘Pacific Rim’ Trailer

Director Guillermo del Toro introduced a very special Japanese trailer for his Pacific Rim, which features new footage and a toss out to the Japanese actors from the original franchise.

Warner Bros. Reveal the “Main” Poster For ‘Pacific Rim’

Hot d*mn. Warner Bros. is really going for it this week in regards to pimping the Guillermo del Toro-directed Pacific Rim, and I can’t blame them. Massive movie. This poster, described as the “main” one, is more of the same but still pretty cool regardless.

Epic ‘Pacific Rim’ Banner Teases Monster Battle!

Warner Bros. has decided to kick the PR into high gear for the Guillermo del Toro-directed Pacific Rim.

After blowing our minds with the Con trailer premiere, we now have a tremendous banner that sizes up the enormity of the battle ensuing on July 12. I’m a huge fan of Robot Jox and think this looks like the next best thing since 1987!

5 Things We Learned From The New ‘Pacific Rim’ Trailer!!

Warner Bros. Pictures finally released the Wondercon trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim yesterday and it 100% reinvigorated me. I was starting to worry that this was just going to be another, almost boring, “summer blockbuster” when this new footage came along and convinced me that it would be anything but. I also learned (and re-learned) a few things about the film that effectively killed all the second guessing I’d been doing, so I figured I’d jot them down.

‘Pacific Rim’ Con Trailer Better Than Everything…Bursts With Awesome!

Remember when Warner Bros. Pictures debuted footage from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim at the WonderCon in Anaheim, CA? The movie news community got wet and exploded into a Twitter orgasm that both excited me, but also left me apprehensive. These days everything is overblown, which makes it incredible difficult to know what’s actually mind-blowing.

This morning Warners released the Con footage, which is basically an elongated trailer bursting with awesome. It’s like the 1989 Robot Jox mixed with Cloverfield, Godzilla and Jurassic Park, only injected with steroids. What you’ll see doesn’t have that “generic” Transformers look, where robots get hit and fall all over a city. Instead, Pacific Rim flexes its muscles with unique set pieces, stunning settings, and even a shockingly smart premise: the humans are getting their asses kicked Die Hard style!

Pacific Rim, in theaters July 12, is clearly going to be del Toro’s coup de grâce. READ MORE

‘Pacific Rim’ Unleashes A Huge Jaeger In New One Sheet

Everything’s PG-13! But We Knew That Already!

The MPAA released their latest batch of ratings and every movie they covered that we’re interested in got a PG-13 rating. From Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim to the Dark Horse adaptation R.I.P.D. to Takashi Shimizu’s 7500.

Honestly, it’s not a surprise at all. Nor is it really a bad thing. That may be confusing in light of the editorial I wrote yesterday taking down the exhibitors wish for less “R”-rated movies, but I don’t think any of these three movies were ever designed to be anything other than PG-13. Pacific Rim is a giant $200M movie about robots fighting monsters and R.I.P.D. is a Men In Black style comedic romp.

The only thing I think is really up in the air is 7500. It’s been so delayed I’d imagine there’s probably some behind the scenes futzing around on that one so who knows what went on. But at least this confirms they’ve got a cut ready! Now, when will they release it?

In the long run, as long as these movies are good – I’ll be happy.

International Spot For ‘Pacific Rim’ Regains My Excitement

…And that’s because of the Kaiju. The rush of excitement I had at the beginning of this spot, at a shot of the Kaiju that I’d already seen, reminds me that while I may not be salivating over the robot stuff in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, I’m definitely stoked for the giant monsters.

This ‘Pacific Rim’ Viral Image Has Me Wondering If I Even Like Viral Marketing

Warners has released some “viral” marketing for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, and I’m not sure how excited it’s supposed to get me. Don’t get me wrong – I’m DYING to see the movie, especially after hearing the Wondercon footage described. No, There’s Not Going To Be A ‘Godzilla’ ‘Pacific Rim’ Crossover

Honestly, who would even care? I know it’s in fashion to say such things would be even remotely exciting but that’s really just fanboy wheel-spinning. Wishing for things that make no sense instead of wishing for decent movies. Anyway, no, the new Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla will not be crossing over with Legendary Pictures’ Pacific Rim – despite the fact that they’re both the property of the same studio and they both have giant monsters.

Del Toto, while on the subject of Pacific Rim 2, told Collider, “So far with the sequel, what we’re writing, what we’re creating, is very different, so there are no plans. Hypothetically, I would love the fuck out of it. I would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain. But I don’t think there are plans on that. I don’t even know what direction they’re taking Godzilla in. I know somewhat that it’s grounded differently. Pacific Rim, my aspiration was, the color, the saturation of color, was almost an acid-drip version of the Heavy Metal coloring that I loved when Richard Corben was working there, when [Jean-Claude] Forest was working there. Super bright, super saturated, the crazy color and aesthetic. And Godzilla is more realistic, somewhat. That’s my thinking. That’s what I’ve heard. I don’t even know which way they’re going.

That’s not Del Toro considering it. That’s him saying “no”, then thinking about what parts might work, then saying “no” again. If both film are huge hits, maybe the studio will try it at some point – but don’t expect one in theaters for at least 10 years.

Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’ Footage Blows WonderCon Attendee’s Minds!

I’ve been becoming more and more skeptical of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim as Warner Bros. has been releasing poster after poster of the film’s Jaeger robots. To me, I started to think it was going to be just another Transformers movie. Apparently, it’s not. Apparently, it’s off-the-wall amaze balls. Here are a few tweets out of the WonderCon panel where del Toro showed off some new footage from the flick set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, and the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.

Erin Maxwell ‏of Variety writes, “Pacific Rim is everything I ever wanted from every movie ever made. Thank you. #wondercon2013

Melissa Molina stated: “#PacificRim footage was f–king amaaaazing. I need to see this movie NOW #wondercon

Devin Faraci of Bassass Digest uses all caps to express his excitement: “A JAEGER HITS A KAIJU IN THE FACE WITH A CARGO SHIP IN THE PACIFIC RIM WONDERCON TRAILER.

Chris Eaton adds: “#pacificrim is no Cloverfield the 2 minutes shown @WonderCon blew that film out the water

Warner Bros Pictures added a little bit of juice, “Guillermo del Toro says each time he sees #PacificRim, he still has a “sh*t-eating grin” on his face, and it’s “absolute heaven.” #WonderCon

Hopefully the new footage hits the Web tomorrow. Until then, we’ll wait patiently for July 12 when the world wages war against giant monsters! READ MORE
