Described as a look at the seedy underbelly of the city of love! The title is a spoof on the romantic portmanteau feature Paris, je t’aime (2006), which featured directors Gus van Sant, Alexander Payne, Tom Tykwer, Walter Salles and the Coen brothers, among others.
Ross Katz is set to direct Joseph Fiennes, pictured above, and Morena Baccarin (“V,” “Homeland), pictured below, in Gold Circle Entertainment’s supernatural thriller The Unholy, reports THR.
Katz will direct from a script written by Pop Skull‘s E.L. Katz, based on an original idea by Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza (creators of the [REC] franchise).

Magnet Releasing just released [REC] 3: Genesis on VOD Today, August 2nd and will release it in select theaters on Friday, September 7. While Paco Plaza and Jaume Balagueró co-directed the first two installments, they decided to split up parts 3 and 4, with Plaza taking Genesis and Balagueró tackling the upcoming [REC] 4: Apocalypse.

Magnet Releasing has scheduled [REC] 3: Genesis for release next week and I spoke with director Paco Plaza today about that film. While Plaza and Jaume Balagueró co-directed the first two installments, they decided to split up parts 3 and 4, with Plaza taking Genesis and Balagueró tackling [REC] 4: Apocalypse.
While the bulk of our interview (which will hit next week in its entirety) concerned the super-fun Genesis, Plaza was able to talk a bit about the fourth installment. There’s a moment in [REC] 3, which is a prequel to the first two films, where the camera gets put down and it switches into a more traditional film. Apparently Balagueró’s [REC] 4 takes it a step further by not being found footage at all – even though it picks up moments after [REC] 2 ends.
Per Plaza, “It’s true that it takes place after ‘[REC] 2′. And it is going to be shot [differently]. It is not going back to found footage, it is going to be a cinematic narrative. A conventional film. I don’t want to say much more, I can’t say too much. I don’t want to get in trouble!”
For you found footage fans, don’t worry. When Plaza puts the POV-cam down in [REC] 3, he’s not dissing the genre. “It’s not that I wanted to make a statement. There are still excellent found footage films like ‘Paranormal Activity 3′. It’s not saying ‘found footage is over’ or anything. I just wanted to surprise the audience and deliver something different [after the first two films].”

[REC]3 Genesis finds Paco Plaza largely dispensing with the found footage aesthetic of the series and going much broader. I still haven’t seen the film, and while Mr. Disgusting thinks it falls a hair or two short of the prior two entries, I’m not too worried. All of the teasers, trailers and images actually have me kind of confident that I’ll like this thing. I’m not a die-hard fan of the series so maybe I’m just responding positively to the new aesthetic. This beautiful high-res poster kind of makes my point for me.

To the dismay of Paco Plaza (who is a fabulous filmmaker), I wasn’t a huge fan of his solo-directed [REC]3 Genesis as he abandoned the found footage component of the franchise, while also injecting humor into an otherwise dead-pan serious trilogy (soon to be saga). Still, the Spanish-language film that opens in its home country next Friday, is pretty entertaining and has just enough blood and guts to warrant a viewing.
Getting fans in Spain hyped, Filmax has released another pair of clips from the blood-red wedding, one featuring the Bride (Leticia Dolera) as she rips the cord of her trusty chain saw and goes to work on an infected family member.
In other brief news, the quasi-prequel will be arriving in UK cinemas May 11, with a DVD/Blu-ray date unlisted for August. We can only assume Magnet will aim for a similar release plan theatrically, while Sony is completely unpredictable with home video (because they don’t give a sh*t about it; seriously). READ MORE

Paco Plaza’s [REC] 3 Genesis, the prequel to the found footage zombie/exorcism franchise, premiered yesterday at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. And unfortunately, it doesn’t live up to expectations. Mr. Disgusting writes in with his review.
“The sequel becomes your stereotypical infected horror film, with most of the scares coming from off-screen jolts (with loud audio stings), and the rest filled with violent death scenes that shockingly didn’t get much of an audience reaction. It was really interesting watching theatergoers sit in silence as people are chain sawed in half and decapitated, which was telling of the poor choice in losing the cameras. While the loud stings had all of us jumping, there was no post-scare chatter, and even worse is that none of this will work on a home theater system, which is where most of you will see this.”

Bloody Disgusting was tipped off to a pair of first ever clips from Paco Plaza’s [REC] 3 Genesis, the prequel to the found footage zombie/exorcism franchise that will premiere this Friday at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. The two clips are ying to the yang as the first will introduce you to the wedding party pre-infection, while the second, well, gear up in a suit of armor and prep for battle!

While the film will take the festival route over 2012, Sony Pictures once again owns home video rights, which once again means that won’t be seeing this on Blu-ray (this news totally sucks considering [REC]3 is the first to break out of the found footage mold) — although we will get it in HD on VOD (close, but no cigar).

I’m crazy excited for Paco Plaza’s REC 3: Genesis, which is why there just isn’t enough news to keep me satisfied. In fact, it’s been a bit too quiet (I can only assume it’s going to premiere at TIFF this coming September). So just to keep the title in the news, two new posters have begun internet circulation, one of which is 100% fan-made. The fan-designed version is a take on The Social Network one-sheet that exclaims, “You don’t get a perfect wedding without killing a few zombies.” Pure gold. The other is said to be a cell phone snap of a new teaser that adds a chainsaw to the madness. We have not confirmed its validity…It’s just something pretty to look at.
