Paradise Lost

Written in 1667, Milton’s epic poem revolves around the fall of man and the classic battle of good vs. evil, telling along the way the story of Satan/Lucifer, the angel who tries to overthrow God, and the temptation of Adam and Eve and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden.

The project tells the story of the epic war in heaven between archangels Michael and Lucifer, and will be crafted as an action vehicle that will include aerial warfare, possibly shot in 3D.

['Evil Dead' Month] Members Of The Black Dahlia Murder, Paradise Lost, Napalm Death, And More Talk The ‘Evil Dead’ Films

The new Evil Dead film will be coming out next Friday and it seems like the entire horror fanbase is on pins and needles awaiting its release. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve seen such hype for a horror release since I began here at Bloody-Disgusting back in late 2009. From the look of it, it’s a film that not only respects the horror fanbase but is a film made for us. Still, having not seen the film, I can only wait with you and hope for the best.

This excitement and fervor has swept into the music world and members of some of the most extreme and intense bands out there want to share their thoughts on the original films and the upcoming remake. Head on below for thoughts from members of Paradise Lost, The Black Dahlia Murder, Monuments, Tech N9ne, Bonded By Blood, Palisades, Broken Hope, and a whole slew more! READ MORE

Twisted Music Video Of The Week Vol. 49: Devin Townsend Band “Vampira”

It’s been a slightly miserable day today in terms of the weather. It was overcast with a small breeze. It was the type of weather that makes me crave the fun of Halloween. I want rain. I want grey clouds. I want fog. I want leafless trees. All of this combined made me decide that the Twisted Music Video Of The Week was going to be “Vampira” from none other than Devin Townsend Band! The song comes from the 2006 album Synchestra (Inside Out Music).

A new track Devin Townsend Project‘s upcoming album Epicloud entitled “True North” was streamed earlier today. Listen to it here.

[Exclusive] Check Out The Album Artwork For Stolen Babies ‘Naught’!

Bloody-Disgusting is excited to bring you the exclusive album artwork premiere for Naught, the upcoming album from Stolen Babies! The artwork is deceptive, to say the least. At first glance, it seems very innocent and happy, showing a dark pink sheep in the middle of a “Who Framed Roger Rabbit Toon Town”-esque setting. But at closer inspection, things become more stranger, creating a sense of unease. The colors, while bright, have a dark tinge. The houses, seemingly happy, have a worried tilt to their eyes. And the sky, while blue and beautiful, has scratches and mars. Yup, something seems very strange in this image. You can check out the full artwork below.

The follow-up to 2006′s There Be Squabbles Ahead, Naught has a fall release date via No Comment Records.

Stolen Babies will be on the Epic Kings & Idols Tour with Devin Townsend, Katatonia, and Paradise Lost. Tour dates and artwork can be found below. READ MORE

Katatonia Tease New Song “Lethean” In Tour Ad Promo

In anticipation of their upcoming ninth studio album Dead End Kings (out Aug. 28th via Peaceville Records), Swedish melodic metal band Katatonia have released a tour promo video that uses a sample of a new song, “Lethean”, as the backdrop. Katatonia will be co-headlining the Epic Kings & Idols Tour alongside Devin Townsend. Paradise Lost will be providing direct support. All information for this tour can be found here.

Personally speaking, I cannot WAIT for this album! I’ve been a fan of Katatonia for over 10 years and a new album from them is a reason for much celebration. Also, “Dead Letters” and this sample are convincing me that I might have a contender for Album of the Year. What are your thoughts? READ MORE

It’s Vocal Heaven In These New Devin Townsend Live Clips

Easily one of the hardest working and most eclectic musicians today, Devin Townsend is a whirlwind of musical thoughts and energy. Each release of his is something out of this world, an auditory journey that never reveals the ending until the last notes fade away. Basically, I’m a huge fan.

In anticipation of the release of By A Thread: Live In London, two more video clips have popped up. The first is “Awake” from the Addicted album. Guest singer Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering) was at the show and the combination of her and Devin’s vocals are unbelievable. The second video is the title track from the Ghost album. Both are below for your viewing pleasure.

By A Thread: Live In London came out today and is available for order here. Devin Townsend will also be co-headlining the “Epic Kings & Idols” Tour with Katatonia. Support comes from Paradise Lost. Check out the tour dates below. READ MORE

Universal To Take On ‘Demonologist’ With Robert Zemeckis

Zemeckis22212 Universal To Take On Demonologist With Robert Zemeckis

Universal and Robert Zemeckis’ Imagemovers just found their next project together, an adaptation of the (apparently) highly-sought-after Demonologist. Adaptation? Yes. But the book isn’t out yet so don’t worry if you’re unfamiliar.

Per Deadline, “Universal has acquired ‘Demonologist’, a novel manuscript by Andrew Pyper. The book will be sold at auction shortly, but most important the film project will be produced by ImageMovers partners Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey. The studio made a preemptive deal for the rights.

In the book, “When a professor who studies “Paradise Lost” accepts a free trip to Italy, a demonic spirit appears to kill his daughter, and he must go on a dark journey of discovery in hopes of getting her back.

No word yet on if Zemeckis is planning to direct or if he’ll stick to the producing side of things. READ MORE

Legendary Pictures Pulls Plug On ‘Paradise Lost’

The legendary battle between good and evil has been postponed… this time it’s forever.

After a start date bump back in December, Legendary Pictures has officially pulled the plug on Alex Proyas’ big-budget adaptation of John Milton’s 17th-century poem Paradise Lost due to budget issues, says Variety.

Bradley Cooper, Ben Walker, Casey Affleck, Djimon Hounsou, Rufus Sewell, Camilla Belle, Diego Boneta and Callan McAuliffe were slated to star in the film, which Legendary initially pushed from January to June.

Insiders close to the production told Variety that while Proyas’ vision of the movie was great, the technology wasn’t quite there, and the filmmakers couldn’t reduce the budget enough to satisfy Legendary.

Vincent Newman was set to produce Paradise Lost with Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni. Project was designed to showcase eye-popping aerial warfare, and Warner Bros. was onboard to distribute.

Decision frees up the schedules of its stars, who are expected to be in high-demand — particularly Cooper and Walker. READ MORE

Ballooning Budget Halts ‘Paradise Lost’ Production

Deadline is reporting that Legendary Pictures has halted plans to begin production early next year on Paradise Lost, the epic-sized Alex Proyas-directed film about the battle between good and evil that is inspired by the John Milton poem.

Bradley Cooper had been set to play Lucifer, Benjamin Walker to play the archangel Michael, and Diego Boneta playing Adam and Camilla Belle Eve, with a host of other actors lined up for the action epic.

The site reports that that the film isn’t scrapped; rather, Legendary’s Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and producer Vincent Newman will continue developing it to rework a budget that had passed the $120 million mark by 10% or 15%. The picture has crewed up for an Australia shoot and the talent and below the line is learning about the postponement right now.

In the case of Paradise Lost, there is so much green screen work and VFX that the budget looked to be getting unwieldy. They will try to rework those costs and possibly get the film into production by the late spring or early summer. READ MORE

Adam and Eve Cast for Legendary’s ‘Paradise Lost’

Diego Boneta and Camilla Belle (When a Stranger Calls) will play Adam and Eve, respectively, in Alex Proyas’ Paradise Lost.

They join previously announced Bradley Cooper, Benjamin Walker, Djimon Hounsou, Rufus Sewell, Casey Affleck, Callan McAuliffe, Diego Boneta, Dominic Purcell and Sam Reid in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ epic battle of good vs. evil.

The project tells the story of the epic war in heaven between archangels Michael and Lucifer.

READ MORE

‘Anonymous’ Star Prepares for Heavenly Battle in ‘Paradise Lost’

Anonymous star Sam Reid, who plays the Earl of Essex in Roland Emmerich’s period pic, has joined the cast of Alex Proyas’ big-budget adaptation of John Milton’s 17th-century poem Paradise Lost, reports Variety.

Legendary Pictures is backing the heavenly epic, which will be released by Warner Bros. under Legendary’s overall deal with the studio.

Reid will play Raphael, one of the lesser quartet of archangels beneath Lucifer (Bradley Cooper), Michael (Benjamin Walker) and Gabriel (Casey Affleck). Ever the skeptic, he warns Michael against trusting that Lucifer can be redeemed.

The Australian-British thesp joins a male-dominated ensemble that includes Djimon Hounsou, Callan McAuliffe and Dominic Purcell, as well as Diego Boneta and Camilla Belle, who will play Adam and Eve. READ MORE

Dominic Purcell Becomes Satan’s Right-Hand Man in ‘Paradise Lost’

Dominic Purcell (Straw Dogs) has been cast in Warner Bros.’ Paradise Lost as Jerahmeel, an angel who falls in with Lucifer and ultimately becomes the Dark One’s right-hand man as the renamed Moloch, says Heat Vision.

Alex Proyas is directing the action fantasy film, which stars Bradley Cooper, Casey Affleck, Djimon Hounsou, Ben Walker, Camilla Belle and Callan McAuliffe. Legendary Pictures is producing the action-oriented take on John Milton’s epic poem about the war between angels in heaven.

The 3-D battle will commence in 2013.

Casey Affleck Cast as Gabriel the Angel in ‘Paradise Lost’

*Update: Camilla Belle (When a Stranger Calls) is the choice for the lead role of Eve in the film, says Deadline.

Strong casting continues as The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford and The Killer Inside Me‘s Casey Affleck is joining the fight for good, as he’s in negotiations to play the angel Gabriel in Legendary Pictures’ Paradise Lost, says Variety.

Alex Proyas (The Crow) is directing the heavenly epic, which is a big-budget adaptation of John Milton’s 17th Century poem. Bradley Cooper and Ben Walker star as warring archangels Lucifer and Michael, while Djimon Hounsou co-stars as Abdiel, the angel of death. Rufus Sewell, who starred in Proyas’ underrated Dark City, also stars.

A six-winged angel, Gabriel was created by God to serve as a messenger.

Stuart Hazeldine developed the primary draft of the screenplay, originally written by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi. Lawrence Kasdan provided a polish as well as Ryan Condal, who delivered the most recent draft. Project will fall under Legendary’s overall agreement with Warner Bros.
