Alex Proyas Reunites With ‘Dark City’s Rufus Sewell for ‘Paradise Lost’

Officially excited…

Director Alex Proyas is looking to reteam with his Dark City star Rufus Sewell, who’s in negotiations to join the cast of Paradise Lost at Legendary Pictures, reports Variety.

He would join the previously cast Bradley Cooper, Benjamin Walker and Djimon Hounsou.

Written in 1667, Milton’s epic poem revolves around the fall of man and the classic battle of good vs. evil, telling along the way the story of Satan/Lucifer, the angel who tries to overthrow God, and the temptation of Adam and Eve and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden.

The project tells the story of the epic war in heaven between archangels Michael and Lucifer, and will be crafted as an action vehicle that will include aerial warfare, possibly shot in 3D.

Meet ‘Paradise Lost’s Angel of Death!

Djimon Hounsou (“The Tempest,” Push) is the latest heavenly figure to join the cast of Paradise Lost, and will play Abdiel, the angel of death, in Alex Proyas’ adaptation of the Milton epic poem.

He joins Bradley Cooper and Ben Walker, who are set to star as Lucifer and the archangel Michael, respectively.

Benjamin Walker vs. Bradley Cooper in ‘Paradise Lost’

Legendary Pictures is negotiating with Benjamin Walker to play the archangel Michael in Alex Proyas’ Paradise Lost, the action epic battle between good and evil that is inspired by the John Milton poem, reports Deadline.

Walker, who just wrapped the title role in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, will go mano a mano against Bradley Cooper’s Lucifer in the war that began all wars. After being cast out of Heaven, Lucifer mounts an army that battles the forces of good, and the film will have cutting-edge visual effects that will make these battles resemble 300 meets Lord of the Rings — but with winged warriors.

There are three major battle set pieces, Proyas said. One that takes place in Heaven, another in Hell, and a third in Eden.

Production will begin in January in Sydney.

Gaze Into The Devil’s Eyes in ‘Paradise Lost’ Art

Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures has released an official piece of art from Paradise Lost, which is to be directed by Alex Proyas and star Bradley Cooper.

The art pictured below is a look straight into the blackest of souls: Lucifer’s. It was on display at the San Diego Comic-Con, alongside some other concept art.

Lucifer and Michael, God’s greatest archangels, share the bond of extraordinary friendship until God produces his greatest creation: Man. Unable to remain subservient to God if it means bowing down to humanity, Lucifer begins his dark descent and is cast out – only to plot his revenge.

San Diego Comic-Con ’11: FRIDAY, July 22 Complete Schedule!

Last night we delivered the full schedules from “Preview Night” and Thursday, July 21 (opening day), now inside you’ll find the full schedule for the San Diego Comic-Con Friday, July 22.

Friday is loaded with all sorts of madness: Fox will show their pilot presentation for Joe Hill’s “Locke & Key,” directed by Mark Romanek. AMC brings the cast of “The Walking Dead” to the Con. Legendary Pictures will have various panels for movies that aren’t comic book related and aren’t even filmed yet (I still think this is hilarious). Screen Gems will show the first footage from Underworld 4. Dreamworks pimps out Fright Night. And Columbia Pictures will share the first footage from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. It all sounds pretty awesome. Check out the full schedule inside.

San Diego Comic-Con ’11: WED., July 20/THURS., July 21 Complete Schedule!

I love standing firm on a promise, having kept our San Diego Comic-Con news leading up to the July 20th event to an absolute minimum. But reader beware: Bloody Disgusting’s front page is going to be a gooey explosion, an absolute onslaught of coverage come that Wednesday.

Speaking of Wednesday, July 20, the Con has revealed the official lineup for both “Preview Night” and Thursday, July 21. So instead of filling up the front page with an individual story on EACH announcement, we’ve jam-packed it all into this one tidy post (ok, I’m OCD about organization, what the hell do you want from me?)

We’ll hit you up with the details on the other three days as soon as they’re announced.

San Diego Comic-Con’s Panel For Non-Comic Movies That Aren’t Filmed

Is this a good time to declare my disdain for the direction Comic-Con has taken? Not only are studios flaunting films that AREN’T at all comic book related, but now they’re wasting time and space over movies that haven’t even been filmed? Good grief.

In an announcement that Warner Bros. Pictures’ Pacific Rim will have a San Diego Comic-Con presence, it was revealed that Rinko Kikuchi (47 Ronin ) will be starring alongside Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Charlie Day in Guillermo del Toro’s creature feature, reports Heat Vision. Legendary Pictures will bring all aforementioned talent to the Con as well as screenwriter Travis Beacham.

They also reveal that Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes and Alicia Vikander will be on hand to talk about Seventh Son, the company’s adaptation of the young adult fantasy based on the Matt Greenberg book with the project’s director, Sergei Bodrov.

Director Alex Proyas (The Crow, Knowing) and Bradley Cooper will chat about Paradise Lost while the creator of video game Mass Effect, Casey Hudson, and the man writing its screen adaptation, Mark Protosevich, will kibitz about that sci-fi project.

Insomnium Sign With Century Media Records

Century Media Records is proud to announce the signing of INSOMNIUM who recently won the Finnish Metal Awards earlier this year for Best Band and Best Album (for the 2009 album “Across The Dark”). The band comments: “We are very happy to announce that we have signed a deal with the mighty Century Media Records. Throughout the spring and summer we negotiated with several attractive labels but in the end it was clear that Century Media would be our home for the years to come. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and genuine love for music made an instant impact on us. We are convinced that this alliance will lead to even greater achievements in the future and also avails us to tour outside Europe more often. And naturally it is a great honor for us to stand in the same team with the likes of Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy, Paradise Lost, The Haunted, Finntroll and Turisas. A new exciting chapter in the story of Insomnium has begun!

We want to thank Jens Prueter and the whole Century Media crew for putting their trust in us. We thank our manager Jukka Varmo for handling the negotiations very smoothly. We also wish to thank our previous label Candlelight Records for the decade that we spent with them. We salute you all!”
