You guys know I’m a huge Friday The 13th fan. If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t be spending all night tonight hosting a screening of the first four films (tickets here if you’re in LA)! You’ve also probably read my personal F13 Rankings! But now it’s your turn! After all, Friday The 13th is practically a Horror Holiday and it belongs to everyone! Hell they’re all out on Blu-ray for the very first time too with “Friday the 13th: The Complete Collection” (at least it’s the first time for most of them).
Do you like the simplicity and innocence of Friday The 13th? The pastoral beauty of Part 2? Jason finding his mask in Part 3? The Jarvis family, Crispin Glover and overall technical competence of The Final Chapter? How about the sleazy fun of A New Beginning or the legit narrative of Jason Lives? Maybe for some reason you dig The New Blood (it does have the best Zombie Jason design) or are homesick for the dangerous Manhattan of the late 80′s. Maybe you’re a really big “Silver Spoons” fan and watch Jason Goes To Hell every d*amn night. You could also be one of the folks who revel in the twisted futurism of Jason X or dig the NOES structure of Freddy Vs. Jason. You could also be one of the smart folks like me who realize that Friday The 13th (2009) is pretty damn good!
Whatever the case, vote below! And tell us why in the comments! READ MORE
You probably already know we’re hosting a Friday The 13th mini-marathon on Friday, September 13th at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica. Now I can announce that Part 3 will indeed be screened in 3D (red and blue anaglyph). We also have some great guests coming out! Mark Swift (co-writer of Freddy Vs. Jason and Friday The 13th 2009) will be onhand to help me introduce Part 2 and Todd Farmer (writer of Jason X, Drive Angry and My Bloody Valentine 3D) is gonna come on down and help intro Part 3. In addition, we’re also working on getting a SPECIAL guest introduction for Part 1… but you’ll just have to come down for yourself and see what happens.
The whole thing starts at 5PM – there will be a little bit of a street scene outside the theater and you’re welcome to come dressed as your favorite franchise character. There will be food trucks, prizes for costumes and trivia. The FIRST FILM will start at 730 PM and we’ll keep going until we’re done. The whole thing is only $13 (you can buy the tickets here)!
Again, there are CASH PRIZES of $500, $300 and $100. The cash prizes are for the Costume Contest. Come down by 5PM dressed as your favorite F13 character. The three best costumes will win – with the grand prize winner getting $500 and so on. Don’t have a costume? No problem! We’re giving away 13 BLU-RAY BOXED SETS of “Friday the 13th: The Complete Collection” as well as 13 MEALS from the Food Trucks outside! These prizes are for our Trivia and Scream Contests (these also start at 5PM). READ MORE
Last week it was announced that Paramount had regained the rights to the Friday The 13th franchise, and they have a five year window to make things happen. I’m not sure if this means that the rights will expire if they don’t make a movie in the next five years (deals like this are common) or if they simply have five years to make as many of these suckers as they can. If the latter is the case, and if their initial foray is lucrative enough, they can certainly get four out there if they follow the “one a year” release pattern from the 80′s.
It’s too late for them to make one in time for December 13th of this year, so I imagine that they’ll be aiming for the next available date – June 13th, 2014 – which gives them some time to get it right. While I genuinely dug the 2009 remake (and wouldn’t at all mind getting that rumored Shannon/Swift snowbound sequel), there are some ground rules we need to establish before moving forward in order to ensure we get the best F13 possible.

On January 4, 2013 Lionsgate will gas-up their chainsaw and pull the cord on Texas Chainsaw 3D, the John Luessenhop-directed sequel to Tobe Hooper’s classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre that stars Dan Yeager, John Dugan, Bill Moseley, Alexandra Daddario, Sue Rock, Tania Raymonde, Scott Eastwood, Gunnar Hansen, Tobe Hooper, Paul Rae, Keram Malicki-Sánchez, Ritchie Montgomery, Trey Songz, Marilyn Burns, Shaun Sipos, Thom Barry and Richard Riehle.
Yesterday we published an on set report from Bloody Disgusting correspondent Alyse Wax, and now I can share my interview with Luessenhop! We discuss the difficulties of taking on the mantle of the series, the tonal similarities between this film and Tobe Hooper’s 1974 original and whether or not this on tops the lame Next Generation in terms of actually having Chainsaw kills.
