A tour de force of psychological terror and breathtaking suspense, Headhunter intensifies to a final twist so shocking, so unexpected, and yet so right, that this whodunit firmly established Slade as a master of the psycho-thriller.
In Slade’s bestseller, the Headhunter is loose on the streets of Vancouver and the victims are everywhere: floating in the Fraser River, buried in a shallow grave, nailed to an Indian totem pole on the university campus. All are women, all are headless.
The tale of a man and wife who move into an old house and discover a hideous creature – the man’s half-brother, who is also the woman’s former lover – hiding upstairs. Having lost his earthly body to a trio of S&M demons, the Cenobites, he is brought back into existence by a drop of blood on the floor. He soon forces his former mistress to bring him his necessary human sacrifices to complete his body… but the Cenobites won’t be happy about this.
The script fixes on an elite team of government-subsidized zombie-hunters who are mysteriously ambushed by a viscous new breed of zombie.
A few days ago we heard that Paramount was in negotiations to secure the distribution rights for a fifth Terminator film. The film is being produced by Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures as well as David Ellison’s Skydance Productions. Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are writing the script for the fifth film.
With all of that seemingly going well, Arnold Schwarzenegger is sort of confirming his involvement, and the likelihood that he will be playing one of the titular machines. According to TheArnoldFans.com he said, ““In fact, I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star AS the ‘Terminator’, which we start shooting in January and I’m also going to do ‘King Conan’ – to play that role and also to do another ‘Twins’ movie.”
This is from an actor, so it’s to be taken with a grain of sale until the studio confirms it – but it’s looking good (depending on if you actually want to see this movie). Also? Twins 2!!!
Megan Ellison paid more than $20 million in 2011 to acquire the rights for a new Terminator film. However, she must make a film by 2019 before the rights revert back to the creator of the franchise, James Cameron.
Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures have set Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier to script the next installment of The Terminator franchise, says Deadline. Lussier is the director of My Bloody Valentine and Drive Angry. Kalogridis penned Avatar, Shutter Island and Alexander.
Skydance’s David Ellison recently hired the scribes to write an original scifi adventure film, with an idea initiated by Skydance. Megan Ellison paid a fortune for the rights several years ago, and recently teamed with brother David, whose company finds big ticket action films like Terminator to be in its wheelhouse. David, who just produced Jack Reacher, had the relationship with the scribes, though interestingly Kalogridis also is tight with Terminator creator James Cameron.
Oddly enough, the four Terminator films have only grossed $520 million at the boxoffice with a worldwide take around $1.4 billion.
If one were to compare Drive Angry and My Bloody Valentine 3D, they’d be hard pressed to explain how the collaborative duo of writer Todd Farmer and director Patrick Lussier have grown as artists. In fact, I’m confident that I could copy and paste my review of the former and reuse it for the latter. There’s no depth or greater meaning to the Nic Cage vehicle; it’s just intended as a wild 3D ride filled with death and destruction – and Tom Atkins! What’s really incredible about it is that in a post-Grindhouse world, someone had the balls to try and make yet another modern day, big(ger)-budget love letter to exploitation films.

Now in theaters everywhere, Patrick Lussier’s Drive Angry 3D (review) is the anticipated follow-up to the director’s previous horror hit, My Bloody Valentine 3D, which grossed over $100 million worldwide back in 2009.
The difference this time around is that the film is an original creation as opposed to a remake (thank you!), featuring heavy-hitting actor Nicolas Cage in the title role of a man who escapes from Hell to avenge the murder of his daughter and kidnapping of his grandchild by a Satanic cult.
B-D reporter Chris Eggertsen recently chatted it up with Lussier, quickly picking up steam as one of the foremost faces in horror in the 21st century, to talk about working with Cage and the rest of the cast, what old films he and co-writer Todd Farmer were influenced by during the writing process, and whether he’d be open to doing a sequel.
See inside for the full interview and don’t forget it’s now time for you to write your own review to tell all of BD what YOU thought!
Hitting theaters today is Drive Angry 3D, a supernaturally tinged revenge tale that’s loaded with action and humor. The great William Fichtner shines as “The Accountant”, a profane (and hilarious) bounty hunter of sorts who is tasked with finding Milton (Nicolas Cage) and bringing him back to where he’s from (which is a surprise in the movie, though the trailer gives it away). Helping Milton is B-D fave Amber Heard, who steals the movie away from her co-stars with her crazy stunts and attitude. In short, it’s a ton of fun (did I mention Tom Atkins plays a small role as a machine-gunning sheriff?), and even though its horror elements are a bit light, it’s definitely worth checking out, and another success for Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer, the director/writer team behind the smash My Bloody Valentine 3D. To whet your appetite, check below for a pair of exclusive interviews with Cage, Heard, and Billy Burke, who plays the film’s main villain: Jonah King, a colorful cross between Charles Manson and Jim Morrison.

During our recent exclusive chat with Patrick Lussier to discuss the release of his latest film, the Nicolas Cage vehicle Drive Angry 3D, we simply couldn’t let the MBV3D director go without first asking for an update – any update – on Halloween 3-D, which has seemingly gotten this close to production several times in the past before being put squarely on the Weinsteins’ back-burner once again. Interestingly, Lussier seems to think that the studio’s laser-focus on the make-or-break release of Scream 4 may be part of the reason for that.
“Yeah, well, [we've got] the ['H3'] script sitting there,” said Lussier. “We would make that in a hearbeat…[The Weinsteins'] focus has shifted onto ‘Hellraiser’, and they obviously want to focus on ‘Scream 4′…[their] sort of “slasher mind” is probably very, very focused on that film and the release of that film. So I can’t really speak for them, you know?”
In other words, the Weinsteins are only able (willing?) to focus on reviving one slasher franchise at a time.
“I wish I had more to tell you,” offered Lussier, obviously passionate about the project. “I know Todd and I would love to shoot that, love to shoot the script [that was] so much fun to write and delve into that Carpenter world.”
Notice he said that “Carpenter” world, not that “Zombie” world. For lack of any other ray of hope to really latch onto, that’s gonna have to be enough to keep old school-oriented Halloween fans satisfied for the moment. Let’s hope once Scream 4 comes out we’ll see more movement on this.

In our exclusive chat with Drive Angry 3D director Patrick Lussier about his latest film – releasing in theaters this Friday! – B-D reporter Chris Eggertsen of course had to ask him about the planned Hellraiser reboot, the script for which he and partner-in-crime Todd Farmer are currently writing. As has previously been reported, the film will not be a traditional remake following the plot of the original story but rather a “reboot” that will come at the Hellraiser universe from a new angle focusing heavily on the “world” of the Lament Configuration puzzle box.
The story centers on a man (Cage) driven by rage who is chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. The vendetta/rescue spins out of control as the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies strewn along the highway.

In the same interview where Drive Angry and My Bloody Valentine director Patrick Lussier talks about the forthcoming Hellraiser reboot, he also briefly discusses the status of Halloween III 3D – lots of waiting: “You’d really have to ask Dimension Films and Bob Weinstein,” he tells Moviefone. “We were very excited about the script we wrote. Malek Akkad was very excited about the script we wrote. We loved Malek and we’d love to make the movie with him, but that’s up to the grown-ups who are above our pay grade, so who knows. I am frequently surprised by whatever happens next.” Todd Farmer penned the script that would have brought Michael Myers back to theaters this past August.
