Bloody Disgusting has confirmed
is hearing of some pretty exciting news as we’re exclusively being told that Michelle Rodriguez has signed to reprise her role as “Rain Ocampo” in Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil: Retribution 3D! Rodriguez first took on the role in Anderson’s 2002 live-action adaptation of the video game franchise. Retribution is the fifth film featuring another battle between Alice and Umbrella.
We’ve also learned that Shawn Roberts’ return as Albert Wesker will be in the form of a cameo.
Rodriguez will join Roberts, Milla Jovovich (Alice), Sienna Guillory (Jill Valentine), Colin Salmon and Boris Kodjoe.
Filming will take place in Toronto, Japan and Russia, with Sony Screen Gems locking in a September 14, 2012 release in 3D.
Milla Jovovich continues to tweet out cast for the now-filming Resident Evil: Retribution, which shoots in Japan, Toronto and Russia.
She confirms that Shawn Roberts will return as “Albert Wesker” and will be “more badass then ever,” adding that “of course its not so easy to kill him!”
Sienna Guillory and Colin Salmon are the other two confirmed cast members, with Paul W.S. Anderson directing from is own screenplay.
Looks like Resident Evil: Retribution is heading to Russia during principal photography, according to star Milla Jovovich.
The actress spilled the beans on Twitter yesterday, saying “YES! WE ARE DOING A HUGE ACTION SEQUENCE IN RED SQUARE!!!!”
No word on how much will be shot there, but considering just a “huge action sequence” was mentioned, I imagine it’ll be something along the lines of the Tokyo opening in RE: Afterlife. Paul W.S. Anderson returns to the director’s chair for a September shoot.
Sony Screen Gems has locked in a September 14, 2012 date.
Update: I made a few calls and got a juicy piece of insider info that I unfortunately have to leave extremely vague. She may, or may not be back. That is all. The end.
When we broke the news the other day that Milla Jovovich would be returning to star in Sony Screen Gems’ Resident Evil: Retribution, we also noted that contrary to Sienna Guillory’s previous Twitter posts, “Jill Valentine’s” role is being recast.
Now, this could be a casting error or it’s even possible they are looking for an older or younger version for some sort of flashback/flash-forward sequence. All I know is that I saw it, with my own two eyes.
Since our report, Guillory took back to Twitter stating “I’m loyal to R.E. always. Don’t know about where the rumors come from. But if they want someone else it’s not up to me!”
We’re doing some extra fact checking to see if we can’t solve this mystery, but I’m siding with the fans on this one: what’s the point of recasting her? I want to see Guillory back at Jill Valentine!
Plot details are under lock and key, but Sony Screen Gems is aiming to have it in theaters come September 14, 2012. An October start date is locked in Toronto and Japan with Paul W.S. Anderson returning to direct.
Exclusive breaking news as Bloody Disgusting has learned that Milla Jovovich will be returning once again as “Alice” in Resident Evil: Retribution. We have also exclusively landed the news that Paul W.S. Anderson will direct from his own screenplay. Anderson directed both the first film in the franchise and Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D, which arrived in theaters last September.
Sienna Guillory had posted on Twitter that she will be returning as “Jill Valentine,” although we’re being told that she’s being recast. Who should replace her? They are also casting “Barry Burton”, who was a member of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Service), and “Leon Scott Kennedy,” a U.S. Government agent, and previously an officer for the Raccoon City Police Department.”
The newly titled pic is gearing up for a shoot this coming October that will take Alice from Toronto, Canada all the way to Tokyo, Japan.
