[NYCC '12] First Image From The ‘Evil Dead’ Remake!! Our Reaction To The Gory Trailer!

On the heels of the recently launched official website and Facebook page for Fede Alvarez’s hotly anticipated Evil Dead, the NYCC panel was held today. While we wait for the trailer that was shown – which was apparently insanely gory – here’s a new image from the film!

The image falls a bit in line with what I saw on set, but I’m hearing the trailer really confirms the HARD-R notions I’ve had about the film. Our man on the scene, Lonmonster, reports live from the event with the first ever footage description, which he calls “insane!” In addition, we’ve also provided some interview bites from the panel.

In the remake starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Jessica Lucas and Bruce Campbell, “Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

The Book of the Dead is opened on April 12, 2013. Head inside for the pic and for Lonmonster’s trailer description! READ MORE

Want To See Aaron Eckhart In ‘I, Frankenstein’? Here Ya Go!

EckhartFrank2Header41612 Want To See Aaron Eckhart In I, Frankenstein? Here Ya Go!

I, Frankenstein is currently shooting in Australia and now the first pics of Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight, In The Company Of Men) in makeup as the titular monster have emerged. I actually kind of like the look, it’s much more subtle than I expected. And, having seen this, I guess there’s no realistic way Eckhart can take on this role and not be compared to his Dark Knight character Two-Face, no matter how much his actual performance differs.

Stuart Beattie is directing the Lakeshore/Lionsgate movie in which “Frankenstein’s monster vacillating between humanity and monsterdom while being pursued by demons wanting to gain the secret of his reanimated corpse.” The script was written by Kevin Grevioux. In addition to Eckhart, the film stars Bill Nighy, Socratis Otto, Yvonne Strahovski and Miranda Otto.

I, Frankenstein hits theaters on February 22, 2013. Head inside for the pics courtesy of Pablo Hassan. READ MORE

FrankLand30912 Frankensteins Army Has Been Recruited!

I know there’s a lot of Frankenstein projects to keep straight in your mind these days. But, if it helps, Frankenstein’s Army is actually filming.

Closing out its first week of principal photography in the ancient village of Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, MPI Media Group and XYZ Films proudly announce the central cast of the film, an international gathering with European talent hailing from The UK, Russia, and Czech Republic.

An announcement regarding the highly-coveted role of Viktor, a charismatic but wildly megalomaniacal scientist whose experiments with the living dead could turn the tide for Hitler’s Nazi forces, is expected from the production next week.

I’ve yet to watch last night’s episode of “The Walking Dead”, but that was the midseason finale to the zombie series that will break until after the New Year (February 12). AMC released a teaser of episode 02.08 entitled “Nebraska”. Watch it inside and pine for 2012.

With an urgent spoiler warning attached, THR caught up with executive producer Robert Kirkman, who created the comic book series on which the AMC drama is based, to discuss Sunday’s “Pretty Much Dead Already” episode, how the death of one of the comics’ original characters changes the series as well as what’s ahead when the zombie drama returns for it’s “explosive” second half of its sophomore season in February. TV: What If ‘The Walking Dead’ Stars Were Zombies?

I’m having issues finding the true source of the images, but making waves across the Net this a.m. are a series of fan made stills featuring Rick, Lori, Shane, Daryl and Glenn, respectively, zombified as one of the undead in AMC’s “The Walking Dead”!

As you can see above, Rick, played by Andrew Lincoln, is craving some human flesh and a fresh brain. After the break you’ll see the other hilariously awesome pictures. I’d love to know who is actually responsible for these gems!

Airing every Sunday on AMC, “ ‘The Walking Dead’ tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.READ MORE

TV: The Walking Dead S02E06 Recap and Review

Take 5 minutes to look on just about any social network or forum and you can learn a lot about the recent fan reactions to season 2 of “The Walking Dead”. You will see that this once solid series is starting to see it’s first real community backlash. The  horror based season 1 did a very good job giving us some very basic characters that adapted the role of neutral avatars for developing the plot and action. From the start of season 2, it’s clear that the writers have been attempting to steadily correct the lack of development from the first 6 episodes by re introducing us to the cast.

Their intentions, however good, have garnished some fairly negative results. You can’t look at a discussion of “The Walking Dead” without at least one (usually multiple) fan professing their undying hate for this cast. A once fairly neutral band of survivors has now been met with scorn; and as much as i’d like to say otherwise, there is validity in it. All characters have flaws, but a big chunk of “The Walking Dead”‘s cast is swimming in them, leaving virtually no room for positivity. As the series becomes less about zombie survival and more about the self righteous pissing contest going on at the Hershel farmstead, ”The Walking Dead”‘s watchability is coming under a lot of question.

Maybe that is the goal all along. Maybe they are dragging these characters through the mud in every way possible in an attempt to allow them to grow as people. With only two episodes before the winter hiatus, it is more important than ever for the writers to give us a reason to care about what happens to these people.  READ MORE

Anthrax’s Scott Ian Blogs About His ‘The Walking Dead’ Zombie Experience

Although there were no other details, we were the first to tell you that Anthrax’s Scott Ian was transformed into a zombie on the set of the now-filming second season f AMC’s “The Walking Dead”.

The other day Ian took to his official blog where he detailed the experience and posted a assault of behind-the-scenes imagery.

Next was making sure I could convincingly walk like a corpse. I just did what felt natural, started with a broken ankle which would cause me to lean, let my arm swing like dead weight, head forward, blackened teeth (Black Tooth!) gnashing. I showed my walk to zombie pro Joe (didn’t get his last name) and he approved. He said I looked dead! No walking notes.” said Ian. “No zombie faux pas (typical rookie mistake would be arms up like Frankenstein). I guess I am just genetically wired to play the undead,” he jokes. “The Walking Dead” returns this October will a full 13-episode season.

AMC In More Hot Water Regarding ‘Walking Dead’ Firing; Anthrax’s Scott Ian a Zombie?!

Not only has Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian put on display an image of him as a zombie (pictured inside) from the set of AMC’s now filming second season of “The Walking Dead,” more juicy madness is pouring salt on the wounds that has now become a public fist fight.

“Sons of Anarchy” producer Kurt Sutter took to his twitter account to share his thoughts on the AMC firing of showrunner/director Frank Darabont.

No one else wants to fucking say it, but the greed of ‘Mad Men’ is killing the other two best shows on TV – ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Walking Dead,’ ” he said. “Why Darabont got fired – ['Mad Men''s showrunner Matthew] Weiner. He held AMC hostage, broke their bank, budgets were slashed, shit rolled down hill onto Gilligan and Frank.

Darabont reacted strongly to slashed budgets. He made mistakes, he was fired. No creative in town will trust AMC to back up their artists.

These sentiments were echoed in our story posted yesterday. You’ll find more here. Maybe this public lashing at AMC will embarrass them into doing things correctly?

Darabont Steps Down As ‘Walking Dead’ Showrunner

Apparently, the question we should have asked Frank Darabont during the roundtables for The Walking Dead at last weekend’s Comic Con is “Are you planning to stay with the show for the entire season?” Because today, per Deadline, Darabont reportedly stepped down as showrunner for the hit AMC show, and it is unknown if he will even remain on-board in any capacity as of this writing.

It was well publicized here on Bloody back in May that there were major issues with the writing staff in between the two seasons, and according to Deadline, Darabont never quite settled into the daily grind of TV after working in features for so long, so perhaps this isn’t as big of a surprise as we think. Hopefully we’ll learn more in the next few days, but I tell you, if this was something that was known to the cast and crew present at SDCC, they ALL deserve acting nominations, and Darabont himself might want to look into acting, as there was no indication (to me) that this sort of major drama was unfolding. Whatever the outcome, the show is still on track to have its season premiere on October 16th. Check out the awesome trailer below, and keep an eye here for some interviews from SDCC!

Comic-Con ’11: New Look at ‘The Walking Dead’ Survivors

Updated with third image. Both MTV and THR scored an exclusive image from the forthcoming second season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead”. In THR’s image, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) comes to the rescue as the survivors – shocker! – must weave their way through yet another confrontation with roamers. In MTV’s pic, Rick Grimes and his fellow zombie apocalypse survivors trekking through the blistering forested heat of Atlanta. He’s not alone, thankfully: Daryl Dixon is leading the pack with his trusty crossbow in hand, while friendly faces Andrea, Carol, Glenn and Rick’s wife Lori hang in the background.

TV: More Decaying Undead in Second ‘Walking Dead’ Still

With Frank Darabont back in Atlanta, Georgia already in production on the second season of AMC TV’s widely popular The Walking Dead, the cabler posted a second image of the decaying undead.

At this moment, I’m standing on a stretch of post-apocalypse interstate in Georgia, littered with abandoned cars and blessing my good luck to be reunited with our amazing cast, and our fantastic directors and crew,” Darabont said last week. “Across the board, there are none better. It’s great to be shooting again. I think we’ve embarked on a great season.
