Pitch Black

A transport ship containing 40 passengers heading to other worlds for, among other reasons, settling, New Mecca, and for one passenger, Riddick, another cell. The ship encounters a tiny meteor storm and crash lands on a barren planet with only 1/4 of its complement surviving. Survival is tough with Riddick on the loose and no water in sight. However, come nightfall, they have even more to fear…

[Special Report] Back To Pitch Black On The Set Of ‘Riddick’!!! PART ONE!

Back in March of 2012 I visited the Montreal set of Riddick, the third film in the Pitch Black franchise, for a few days. I wound up with so much material there was no way I could fit it all into one article, so I’m breaking it up into several pieces. In this first look at Riddick, I chose to focus on the overall tone of the film, how it got here and some key information from director David Twohy and star Vin Diesel. I also touch on some other major players like Katee Sackhoff, Mathew Nable and Jordi Molla. We also found out that there are TWO additional sequels planned for the film.

In theaters September 6, “Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy. The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

11 Things We Learned On The Set Of ‘Riddick’!!!

Back in March of 2012 I visited the Montreal set of Riddick, the third film in the Pitch Black franchise. While you can read PART ONE of my lengthy set report today, you might want to check out this piece if you’re on the go. It even has some info the set report doesn’t have (but then again, there’s plenty of stuff in the bigger piece that’s not here either, so carve out some time to come back to that).

Does Facebook Owe Vin Diesel “Billions” Of Dollars?

You know how basically all Vin Diesel news comes from his Facebook page? While we wait for the re-coupling of Diesel and director David Twohy on Riddick, it’s hard to think of an image or still that didn’t originate from the actor’s social networking wellspring. With an astonishing 43 million “likes”, why not? It’s the ultimate portal to reaching his fanbase.

Now Diesel tells EW (via EntertainmentWise) that his candor and accessibility has generated bucket loads of revenue that might have otherwise gone untapped. “Facebook used to ask me to come up to their office to explain what the f–k I was doing, and why I had so many fans… What Facebook didn’t realise is something very big was about to happen, and that was—for the first time in history, and it’s kind of a fluke they didn’t see this coming—when I jumped on that page in April 2009, I started talking to people. In the realest ways… Imagine if you could’ve been a Facebook friend to Marlon Brando, or whoever your role models are… So, when I started talking to the fans, I became the No. 1 page in the world,” Diesel boasted. “Over Coca-Cola, over huge companies. And it was only because I said: ‘Hi, guys, I love you.’

His secret? “I never let anyone do a post, I never let anyone post for me in the last four years. My audience knows me so well on the page that if my producing partner’s in the room when I post, they’ll know somebody was around me. That’s kind of cool, that’s how sophisticated they are. Facebook really owes me billions of dollars. But whatever.

While I seriously doubt Diesel is considering collecting from Zuckerberg and co., it’s an interesting phenomenon. While I think that Brando and Elvis are in an altogether different league, it’s hard to argue that his approach doesn’t garner results. READ MORE

‘Riddick’ Bundles Up In This French Poster!

The followup to Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick, Universal’s R-rated Riddick reteams Vin Diesel as the title character with director David Towhy. There isn’t an official release date just yet, but there is a French poster (via Cineheroes).

Here’s the official plot crunch: “Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.

Vin Disel Shares New Image Of ‘Riddick’ And A Giant Dead Alien’s Skull

Even though I’m not a huge fan of either Pitch Black or Chronicles of Riddick, I can’t help but get excited for Universal’s R-rated Riddick, which reteams Vin Diesel as the title character with director David Towhy. Diesel took to his Facebook page once again to reveal yet another badass image.

Said Diesel: “Last night I was invited in to the editing room, to see the first cut of the new Riddick…

WOW!!!

P.s. I was so affected/excited… I couldn’t sleep.

GRRRR!!!

‘Riddick’ Has Quite The Walking Stick In This New Pic From The Set

For a long time, the good money was on David Twohy and Vin Diesel never getting Riddick off the ground. The third film in the Pitch Black franchise was but a pipe dream for its star. But things have changed (more specifically, Fast Five happened) and here we are. The film is now shot and in post, but that hasn’t stopped Vin from updating his Facebook page with new images.

Per Diesel, “A still from the Riddick set this year… we are in post and I can’t tell you how excited I am to see it manifest. You all were such a part of it becoming a reality… willed it into being, so to speak…

Riddick also stars Karl Urban, Nolan Funk, Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk and Keri Hilson, “The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Meet The Mercs On The Hunt For The Head Of ‘Riddick’

RiddickFeature40612 Meet The Mercs On The Hunt For The Head Of Riddick

Mercenaries figure pretty heavily into the plot of David Twohy’s Vin Diesel starring Riddick, and here are a few of the badasses on his tail. See if you can spot the former MMA fighter in the group! Hint, he’s one of the ones who’s not Nolan Funk (or David Twohy)!

Riddick also sees the return of Karl Urban (Star Trek) as Vaako and introduces to the series previously announced cast member Jordi Molla as Santana, the arrogant captain of the mercenary ship; Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns, a man looking for answers; Katee Sackhoff (TV’s Battlestar Galactica) as the Nordic mercenary Dahl; and Bokeem Woodbine (Total Recall) as bounty hunter Moss. Rounding out the cast are Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption), Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk (Aliens in America) and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson.

You can have the best gadgets and fanny-friendly furniture available, but your gamer lounge is only useful so long as you’re able to stay awake over the long gaming marathons that will undoubtedly take place in it. There are some people who can stay up long after I’ve fallen into sleep’s warm embrace. These individuals are the ones who would, at sleepovers, draw on your face or place your hand in a cup of warm water. Then there are the ones who rely on quick doses of caffeine from sodas or the body boosting powers of energy drinks to stay awake when their bodies are threatening to fail them, to leave them defenseless against their still awake peers.
