Swamp Thing just keeps getting better month after month but this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise consider it’s written by Scott Snyder. Everything is slowly deteriorating for Alec Holland. The Parliament of Trees is pissed at him for not giving in to the Green and now they want to watch him suffer. As the Rot closes in on Alec, things look grimmer than ever, and it’s all leading up to the Animal Man crossover (How stoked are you?). The latest issues of Buffy have been causing quite a stir, not just in the comics world, but also on national news reports. With Buffy facing the toughest decision of her slayership, the series hasn’t been this controversial since the mid 90s when Xander and Willow started shacking up. To be serious for a second, can I just say that this is actually a good thing. Sad as I may be, Green Wake is coming to its final issue next week. This series has been nothing short of phenomenal in every regard since the very first issue, and it’s a shame to see it end. The series landed the number one spot on my Best Comics of 2011 list, and I now feel it belongs among my favorite comics ever. I’ve been ranting and raving about how amazing this book is since last year, so after next week, I promise I’ll stop. But for the love of god(s) and all that is holy, you’ve gotta read this book. Even if you haven’t played it you know it’s widely popular for its dynamic environment, and the fact that you can smash zombie brains with pretty much anything in the environment, whether it’s a lawnmower or a shopping cart of death. When the New 52 were announced, one of the most enigmatic titles of the load was Justice League Dark. It was a complete mystery as to how such misfit, lone-wolf style, heroes were going to band together to form a functioning team. With the first arc in the bag it’s become certain that this is a team the DCU needs, they offer a break from the standard hero books, they offer a glimpse into a dark, and insanely entertaining world.

Then again, it’s hard to go wrong when a series stars Deadman, Constatine, Zatanna, and Shade. Milligan has been killing the writing, while Janin’s artwork perfectly compliments the haunting tones of the script. If you haven’t been reading this bad boy, now is the perfect spot to hop on board. Michael Mendheim, video game creator, is teaming up with world-rewound horror fantasy artist Simon Bisley to bring you a three-book series titled, The Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse. The first of which, Helldriver is set for release this coming April. As per usual, Bisley is exploring religious themes, the end of days for humanity, and scantily clad women all in the same messed up world.

The publisher, Heavy Metal, stated in a press release that the series aims to be “the Matrix meets Hellraiser”. While this may not be something you want your kids reading, it sounds like it’s going to be a top-notch horror comic with beautiful artwork to boot. Rick Remender is taking a short break from the series with these point-one-issues consuming Venom’s life. Fialkov and Sorrentino’s I, Vampire has been getting a lot of attention lately, being praised, not only as one of the best vampire books, but one of the best comics of the New 52 period. I couldn’t agree more. This is an incredibly bleak, action packed story, and now that it’s mingling with the DCU, it’s only getting better. This ain’t your momma’s vampire story, it’s a grim one that’s not afraid to deal with dark subject matter. Check out the preview from DC Comics below!

Sadly, this week brings on the second to last issue of the series, but I have no doubt that Green Wake will continue to be read for years to come. Creepy is one of those books that goes largely unnoticed, even by horror fans, and it’s a big shame. This anthology collects some of the most outright disturbing stories out there with throwbacks to classic horror tales. Creepy is an anthology every one of you should be reading, it pays it’s dues to the past and continues to bring bloody goodness into the present with some shocking shorts. The black and white artwork captures the mood of the book perfectly. So check out the preview and then kick yourself for not having read it all along.

You may recall Hoax Hunters from the back pages of Hack/Slash this past year, but now it’s spun off into it’s own series. Written by Michael Moreci and Steve Seeley (yes, Tim Seeley’s brother), with J.M. Ringuet on art duties, Hoax Hunters is a zany cross somewhere between The X-Files and B.P.R.D.. The story follows a crew of hunters who travel across the globe investigating paranormal folklore and urban myths, mixing together all sorts of sci-fi goodies, with some sardonic jabs at reality TV. Sadly this is the last solo book we will see of Deadman for, what will likely be, an extended period of time. Issue #5 raps up Jenkins’ run on Boston Brand, and next month the series heads off in a more Kirby-esque direction with Challengers of the Unknown.
