If we’ve told you once, we’ve told you twice, anything Scott Snyder lays his pen to turns to pure gold. American Vampire is proof that Snyder is unprecedented when it comes to crafting gripping story lines with characters that matter. Issue #21 brings on the big finale of the “The Beast in the Cave” arc, and with the amazon vampire finally let loose, havoc will be wreaked. We all know Snyder has a certain knack for finishing off arcs with a bang and this should be no exception. American Vampire is consistently one of the best horror titles out there and it really reminds us of how strong vampire lore can be. Welcome to our brand spanking new series euphemistically titled Premature Evaluation where TJ and I will do what juvenile man-children do best and judge harshly from the relative safety of our cheeto-stained bean bags. Essentially, this series is all about recently revealed games we don’t know too much about. Here no game is safe as we’ll be looking at titles that resemble the mushy leakage excreted by a sick dog’s bum as well as beautiful, potentially life-changing games no one would dare utter a negative comment about. This is all about judging a book by its cover, or more specifically, a game by its trailer or assorted screenshots.
The first game we’re taking a look at is the exciting new take on Konami’s long-standing survival horror series, the upcoming Silent Hill: Downpour. This game’s been known to us for some time and we’re not necessarily lacking on details regarding the game’s story and gameplay but that certainly won’t keep us from judging it until we feel we’ve successfully completed our duty of tearing it apart while we listened to the chorus of its screams. Or, there’s always the chance we could both think this game will rock and have little bad to say of it. Either could happen, and that’s what makes this series so damn exciting. READ MORE

Even though the sales for Mark Waid (“THE FLASH”, “KINGDOM COME”)and Emma Rios’ (“HEXED”) “STRANGE” have been less than impressive, the series itself continues to build itself fantastically and for those who haven’t yet gotten a chance to introduce themselves to the world of “STRANGE” then you have missed out! Earlier this week we brought you the conclusion of my interview with “GHOST PROJEKT” scribe Joe Harris, where he talked in depth about his newest series from Oni Comics. Well now Joe has given us a first look at the second issue in his new mini series due for release on April 21st!
“As U.S. Weapons Inspector Will Haley and his Russian counterpart Anya Romanova begin to uncover the truth behind the mysterious military project known only as ‘Dosvidanya,’ those most closely associated with the program keep turning up dead. Can this pair of sleuths get past their cultural differences before the body count rises even further, or is this just a prelude to the nightmare the Soviets planned for their enemies?” READ MORE
The “Ghost Rider” franchise is something of an enigma. A loyal cult following (as well as a blasphemous film adaptation)have kept Johnny Blaze and co. from fading into comic book obscurity of the hellfire of fan backlash against the direction of a poorly developed film and a pending lawsuit against its publishers by its own creator. But like any good undead-spirit-o’-vengeance the rider blazes on in “GHOST RIDER: HEAVENS ON FIRE” as the arc draws itself to a close whilst also signaling the end of scribe Jason Aaron’s (“PUNISHER”, “THE AVENGERS”) run draws to a screeching stop. Read on for the 7 page preview for the red-hot finale before it hits shelves February 3rd. (MSRP-$3.99)
Holy crap has Image come out of the gates swinging this year. To add yet another dark tale to their laundry list of titles coming to you this April, today I got to preview Nick Spencer’s(“EXISTENCE”, “FORGETLESS”) newest mini-series entitled “SHUDDERTOWN”. Inside you’ll find the first 5 pages of this genuinely intriguing title that looks to be somewhere between “SE7EN” and “‘MULHOLLAND DRIVE”. “The dead are killing, and troubled homicide cop Isaac Hernandez is on a desperate search for answers. His investigation leads him deep into the corridors of the Shuddertown housing projects, and towards a truth too terrible to face.”
Image Comics has another huge hit on their hands. Last week we brought you a preview of Image’s new title “TURF” slated to hit shelves April 7 (MSRP $2.99), and now we have gotten our hands on the first 4 pages of this exciting new series plus the cover for the variant of issue #1! “Written by UK broadcaster Jonathan Ross and drawn by Tommy Lee Edwards (“DAREDEVIL”, “X-MEN”) comes a four- issue hard boiled noir crime thriller with girls, guns, fangs and aliens. New York, 1929. The height of prohibition. The cops turn a blind eye while the mobs run the city, dealing in guns, girls and illegal liquor. But the arrival of the mysterious Dragonmir Family from Eastern Europe with more of a taste for blood then booze co-incides with a series of brutal attacks on the gangsters themselves. As the gangs fall before the fangs, only handful of mobsters survive.”
With the mass amounts of comics out there these days it’s not hard to look over certain titles when they are starting out. Unfortunately this means that it is hard for certain stories to go as far as they deserve to while they end up fading into obscurity (here’s looking at you “SIMON DARK”) if not for the few true believers who were lucky enough to have come across them when they were first released. One such title is Asylum Press’s “FEARLESS DAWN”, which was on the verge of just that. Thankfully that didn’t happen, and now the folks at Asylum are back with the 3rd installment into the series, and beyond the break you can find the first 8 hilarious (and sexy) pages!
Oni Press has always been known for its originality in titles such as “The Damned” and “Scott Pilgrim Vs The World”, and in 2010 they hope to further this sentiment with Joe Harris’ new series “Ghost Projekt”. Beyond the break you’ll find a preview of the title slated for a March 3rd Release.
With the ushering in of the new year everyone is trying to come up with the next big miniseries that readers will be talking about all the way into next season. For Top Cow one such title is Robert Kirkman’s ‘Demonic’. I was able to get a sneak peek of the first few pages today, and beyond the break you’ll find a preview to gear you up for the titles’s January 13th release!
If you’re Time Seeley & company how do you follow up an issue where Cassie and Vlad make sushi out of Mary Shelley and Chtulhu’s love child? What about sidekicks, a murder mystery, and Samhain? Find the answers to these and other burning questions beyond the break. (Note-lotion not included)
It’s been a long week for comic fans as the week leading up to the New Year meant a vacation for new releases. But don’t fret true believers, because January 6th is less than a week away, and the folks over at BOOM! Studios intend to usher in the new year with a bang as they end their first arc in the 28 Days Later series.
The Winchester brothers have seen it all. They’ve gone toe to toe with hellhounds, come within a tooths length of being vampire food, torched wendigos, and in Dean’s case, been to hell and back. But before all that the Winchesters had some much more ‘normal’ problems to deal with. Well, as normal as things get for the family of hunters, and in SUPERNATURAL BEGINNINGS END we are let in on some family secrets fans have been dying to hear for almost 5 seasons, 3 novels, and 3 comic arcs.
Ben Templesmith released some more images of his Dracula reworking off his blog. These three images are getting me excited for the upcoming 27 all new color images to go along with the story. Hit the jump to see the other two…
This one is a little bit different but it has the possibiility to be pretty great. From Image Comics comes the Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft #1 which comes out April 8th. This four part mini-series looks like it might be fun where Lovecraft’s writing comes to life with a pulp comic kinda look to it. More information after the break…
