New Graphic Novel From Christos Gage In July

At Emerald City Comic Con this weekend Top Cow announced a new graphic novel entitled Sunset from writer Christos Gage (X-Men Legacy, Avengers Academy) and artist Jorge Lucas (The Darkness) through their Minotaur imprint. Sunset tells the story of retired Vegas mob enforcer Nick Bellamy, who finds crime barreling down his condo door. The original graphic novel is expected to hit stores on July 18th along with a $1.00, 32-page “First Look” of Sunset for fans to preview the graphic novel.

Over the past year, there seems to have been a trend among publishers to move toward a more horror-oriented style. With spring on the horizon, there are even more horror books coming out every week. There is something that is always appealing about samurai and the point in Japan’s history that takes place immediately before guns took over. This is the setting for Dark Horse’s new comic titled, The Immortal, and it works perfectly. As with all good samurai stories lots of blood and guts are involved, as well as … heart eating demons? Ok, Heart eating demons may not be a staple in other samurai tales, but it works nicely for The Immortal.

Another brand new horror title is flying in your face from Dark Horse next week, The Immortal: Demon in the Blood. Dabbling in epic samurai action, this new title focuses on a warrior who loses it all and finds salvation in the ancient magic of tattoo art. sounds pretty darn good, right? The Immortal: Demon in the Blood is in fact an adaptation of the award winning Japanese novel, Ura-Enma by Fumi Nakamura. Over the past 6 years writer Ron Marz has become the architect of Image Comics’ Top Cow universe. After taking over the company’s flagship title Witchblade in 2004, Marz has turned New York City Police Detective Sara Pezzini one of the strongest female protagonists in comics today. Now after 70 consecutive issues at the helm, Marz is stepping down from Witchblade with issue #150.

Ron sat down with Bloody-Disgusting to discuss his legendary run on Witchblade, as well as his future plans for the Top Cow universe as he prepares for the world changing events in the series Artifacts.
