Prisoners

A project said to have echoes of “The Silence of the Lambs” and “Seven.”

How far would you go to protect your child? Keller Dover (Jackman) is facing every parent’s worst nightmare. His six-year-old daughter, Anna, is missing, together with her young friend, Joy, and as minutes turn to hours, panic sets in. The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had earlier been parked on their street. Heading the investigation, Detective Loki (Gyllenhaal) arrests its driver, Alex Jones (Paul Dano), but a lack of evidence forces the only suspect’s release. Knowing his child’s life is at stake, the frantic Dover decides he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. The desperate father will do whatever it takes to find the girls, but in doing so, he may lose himself, begging the question: When do you cross the line between seeking justice and becoming a vigilante?

[2013 HORROR MOVIE PREVIEW] WARNER BROS. PICTURES

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema literally abandoned us in 2012, but hope to redeem themselves with a solid 2013 genre slate.

Dark Shadows was the sole WB release last year, and we’re still beginning for a new A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th. Until then, Saw and Insidious director James Wan is set to blow our minds with The Conjuring, one of the most hyped horror films in years.

Terrence Howard

Terrence Howard Abductor In Warners ‘Prisoners’

Alcon Entertainment has added Terrence Howard (Red Tails, On the Road) to round out the impressive cast that has mobilized for Prisoners, Deadline reports.

The film stars Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa Leo, Viola Davis, Maria Bello and Paul Dano. The cast has responded to the screenplay by Contraband scribe Aaron Guzikowski, and the chance to work with Oscar nominated Incendies director Denis Villeneuve.

The story revolves around a small-town carpenter (Jackman) whose young daughter and her best friend are abducted. After the cops fail to find them, Keller takes the law into his own hands, but in the process runs up against a detective (Gyllenhaal), a hot shot cop with confidence to burn, assigned to the case.” A project said to have echoes of The Silence of the Lambs and Seven.

Principal photography starts in February with a September 20, 2013 release planned.

Maria-Bello

Maria Bello Joins Long Gestured ‘Prisoners’

Maria Bello (A History of Violence) has signed on to the kidnapping thriller Prisoners, says Deadline.

She will play Grace, the wife of Hugh Jackman’s Keller character in the movie. Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa Leo, Paul Dano and Viola Davis are also in the Denis Villeneuve-directed film.

‘Prisoners’ follows a small town carpenter, Jackman’s Keller, who tries to find his kidnapped daughter and her best friend himself after the police can’t.

Gyllenhaal is the detective assigned to the case – a cop who doesn’t like civilians getting involved in police work.

Production on the movie is scheduled to start early next year and Warner Bros is planning a September 20, 2013 release.

[Box Office] New Dates For ‘The Conjuring’ and ‘Prisoners’

Warner Bros. Pictures has made a major shift for James Wan’s The Conjuring (also going by The Warren Files), taking it out of its January date and pushing it to July 19, 2013. This isn’t bad news at all, but I think WB is playing a dangerous game releasing a horror film mid-summer. Wan, director of Saw, Dead Silence and Insidious, tells this alternate take on The Amityville Horror that’s inspired by the supernatural events that happened in the Rhode Island home of the Perron family. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are playing the investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Lilli Taylor and Ron Livingston will portray the Perrons.

It’s also really exciting to hear that the long gestured Prisoners is finally cast up and about to begin shooting. Things are progressing so quickly that Warners has locked in a September 20, 2013 release! Aaron Guzikowski’s dark tale centers on a small-town man who, after his daughter and her friend are kidnapped and the cops fail to solve the crime, takes matters into his own hands, holding hostage the person he suspects committed the crime. Woh, High Profile ‘Prisoners’ Begins Casting…Again

After being in development for years with various directors and casting announced, it looks like the high profile Prisoners script could finally make the big screen transition.

Hugh Jackman Once Again Attached To ‘Prisoners’

First announced back in 2009, Hugh Jackman is once again attached to topline Alcon Entertainment’s long-gestured thriller The Prisoners with Denis Villeneuve (Incendies) directing, reports Variety.

No word on if Jackman is replacing Michael Fassbender, but that is how it sounds.

Michael Fassbender Offered Lead in Dark Thriller ‘Prisoners’

The once hottest script in town, Alcon Entertainment is hiring yet another detective for their thriller Prisoners, which once saw Leonardo DiCaprio attached as well as Training Day director Antoine Fuqua.

CS reports that an offer has gone out to actor Michael Fassbender, last seen playing Magneto in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class, to play the lead role of Keller Dove, a carpenter and father of two who abducts and tortures the main suspect when one of his daughters goes missing in order to try and find the real kidnapper.

No word on if Incendies director Denis Villeneuve is still at the helm.

Hot Script ‘Prisoners’ Has Yet Another Director

It’s amazing how even the hottest of scripts can’t find a way to get into production. Over two years since originally announced (and called the hottest script in Hollywood), Aaron Guzikowski’s Prisoners finally has a new director.

Denis Villeneuve, who is getting raving reviews for his thriller Incendies, has landed the gig to direct Prisoners, a vigilante thriller echoing The Silence of the Lambs and Seven that’s set up with Warner Bros. and The Blind Side producer Alcon Entertainment, reports the LA Times.

Various stars have been attached since the project was first put into active development in 2009, with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale at one point lined up to play the father and the detective, respectively. Training Day director Antoine Fuqua was on board to direct before he left to helm another film.

Leonardo DiCaprio had been attached to star, but his involvement was considered fluid before a director came on board, and Kosove said DiCaprio won’t be joining the project.

Guzikowski’s dark tale “centers on a small-town man who, after his daughter and her friend are kidnapped and the cops fail to solve the crime, takes matters into his own hands, holding hostage the person he suspects committed the crime.
