[OMFG] What If I Told You That The World Of ‘Prometheus’ And ‘Blade Runner’ Coexist?!

Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, his quasi Alien prequel, will be arriving on both Blu-ray and DVD this coming week on both the UK and in the States. Some of the UK readers will get their hands on a Steelbook Edition that apparently carries an Easter Egg of epic proportion. Reddit user Huxleyism discovered that on the UK edition (it could also be included on the U.S. release) hides text written by character Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), which seems to indicated that Weyland’s mentor was a certain replicant-creating tycoon whose creations eventually got the best of him, ScreenCrush first reported.

Inside we’ve got an explanation, along with a screengrab of this genre-changing log. READ MORE

Hated ‘Prometheus’? Check Out The HONEST Trailer For Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ Prequel!

I loved Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, his Alien prequel that’s received quite a bit of flack for it’s inconstancies and lack of explanation. It’s hard to argue with a lot of the criticism, so I just respond with: “I don’t really give a fu, so suck it.”

Still, it’s fun to rib on the film, especially since it was penned by Damon Lindelof, the “genius” behind that “Lost” show (I’m still steaming angry).

Andy Signore & Brett Weiner feel the same way, but also hated Prometheus, which is why they’ve teamed to create the hilarious “Honest Trailer” for the film that teases: “From the creator of one of the most beloved horror sci-fi films of all time comes … this. Discover the biggest mysteries of the summer – like why they made it.

Watch it below and then tell us, what did you think of Prometheus (arriving on home video next Tuesday)? READ MORE

Vatican Newspaper Says ‘Prometheus’ Mishanded Delicate Questions

The Vatican’s official newspaper attacked Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, taking issue with the film’s premise about the origins of mankind and saying it is “a bad idea to defy the gods,” explains the Hollywood Reporter.

The film, which opened in Italy Sept. 14, stars Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, and Charlize Theron in a story about a team of explorers seeking to understand the origins of mankind on earth after discovering a series of clues left behind by ancient civilizations.

L’Osservatore Romano, the Vatican’s official newspaper, said Prometheusmishandles the delicate questions raised by … the battle eternal between good and evil in yet another attempt to steak the secret of immortality.” The newspaper also said that “the journey of Prometheus should instead symbolize the search for the supernatural,” referring to the original hero of Greek mythology who is said to have created man from clay.

Prometheus, now on iTunes, releases on Blu-ray and DVD October 9. READ MORE

Twentieth Century Fox’s Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel, hits Blu-ray next month. New ‘Prometheus’ Viral Video And HD Download Release Date

Twentieth Century Fox’s Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel, hits Blu-ray next month. Earlier we were teased with this massive list of extra features that were approved for the UK release – and I still believe we’re waiting on US specs.

So what is this viral video then? It reminds me of the character pieces that were released leading up to the film’s theatrical release, so maybe this is some kind of Blu-ray hint? Does it key into any of the deleted scenes? Your guess is as good as mine. Also, for those not interested in extras (or actual 1080p resolution), 20th Century Fox is making the film available for HD download (iTunes etc…) September 18th.

Fox will release the Alien spinoff, starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Guy Pearce, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Benedict Wong, Emun Elliott, Patrick Wilson and Ian Whyte, on physical discs on October 11.

Wicked Stills From Deleted ‘Prometheus’ Scene Feature A Mutated Fifield

While we await Twentieth Century Fox’s official Blu-ray announcement for Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel, we were teased with this massive list of extra features that were approved for the UK release.

Many of the deleted scenes had teased what had already been suspected, there’s a rash of information forthcoming that will add some much-needed depth to the vague sci-fi horror. Much to the delight of “Cinefex” readers, the magazine was provided with some deleted plate effects work for Fifield’s undead character. The images are owned by Fox, not Cinefex (just to be clear).

To mutate Fifield beyond what was possible using practical makeup effects, Weta Digital generated a digital character with elongated limbs and an engorged, transluscent head, incorporating a semblance of Harris’ face,” writes the magazine. “Scott filmed the sequence both with the actor in makeup and without, providing clean plates that would allow for the insertion of the digital character. The final cut featured mostly makeup effects, which Weta enhanced with digital wire removal, bullet hits, and one shot of the digital creature’s body blended to the actor.

Fox will release the Alien spinoff, starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Guy Pearce, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Benedict Wong, Emun Elliott, Patrick Wilson and Ian Whyte, October 11. READ MORE

[News Bites] Sam Claflin Is ‘Catching Fire’, ‘Prometheus’ Blu-ray Art, and “The Walking Dead” Covers

Snow White and the Huntsman‘s Sam Claflin (pictured below) has been cast as “Finnick” in the The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Described as “charismatic” and “clever,” Finnick — from District 4 — won the Hunger Games when he was 14. In theaters November 22, 2013 from Lionsgate and director Francis Lawrence, the sequel continues the story of Katniss Everdeen and the fictional, futuristic nation of Panem. Due to the events of the previous novel, a rebellion against the ruling Capitol has begun, and Katniss and fellow tribute Peeta are forced to return to the arena in a special edition of the The Hunger Games.

Entertainment Weekly will premiere four covers (below) featuring the cast of AMC’s The Walking Dead Season 3. Subscribers will receive Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Michonne (Danai Gurira), the Governor (David Morrissey) or Dixon brothers (Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker). Comic creator Robert Kirkman tells the mag: “This season really is about setting up these two worlds and watching them come to a head and collide. And you know that there are going to be some pretty explosive encounters between Rick and the Governor. This season is going to be about getting to know these two characters, and then waiting for their eventual confrontation that could destroy everything.” The zombie apocalypse resumes October 14 on AMC.

Weyland Investors has Blu-ray art for both U.S. and Hungarian releases of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. In stores October 11, the home video release of the Alien prequel will be jam-packed with extra features. Watch for an official announcement as it comes in.

R.I.P. We Say Goodbye To Director/Producer Tony Scott (Updated)

Update (Monday, 12:33 p.m. PST): ABC News reported early Monday that Scott suffered from inoperable brain cancer. The story cited a source close to Scott, the younger brother of director Ridley Scott.

Some tragic news has saddened this Sunday evening as it’s being reported through various sources that British-born director Tony Scott (Anthony Davis Scott) is dead at the age of 68.

Variety explains that Scott allegedly committed suicide Sunday by jumping from the Vincent Thomas Bridge, which spans San Pedro and Terminal Island, Los Angeles County coroner’s officials said. A suicide note was found inside Scott’s car, parked on the bridge. Scott leapt off “without hesitation” around 12:30 p.m., according to the Coroner’s Dept. and port police. Our thoughts go out to his family.

A week ago I had literally just introduced my wife to Top Gun, and was about to share the bliss of Beverly Hills Cop 2 with her this coming week. Days of Thunder, starring Tom Cruise and Michael Rooker, remains one of my all-time favorite movies and is incredibly under appreciated.

Scott has produced the forthcoming mini-series “Coma”, to air Labor Day 9/8C on A&E. He was also producer on Prometheus, directed by his brother Ridley, Park Chan-wook’s forthcoming Stoker, among many other fantastic television series and movies. He will be missed and remembered forever. READ MORE

‘Prometheus’ Sequel Confirmed, Fassbender And Rapace Return!

It’s been openly stated by both director Ridley Scott and writer Damon Lindelof that Prometheus is the first in a planned trilogy all set to bridge the franchise and Scott’s 1979 classic Alien. The Hollywood Reporter confirms at least a sequel.

The $130 million-budgeted film grossed a solid but not spectacular $303 million globally, putting it right on the franchise bubble. Twentieth Century Fox confirms to the mag that Scott and the studio actively are pushing ahead with a follow-up (stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are signed) and are talking to new writers because Prometheus co-scribe Damon Lindelof might not be available (good news for those of you who hate his non-explanatory writing style).

Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it,” says Fox president of production Emma Watts, who also has overseen the successful reboots of the X-Men and Planet of the Apes franchises by turning over the reigns to innovative filmmakers.

According to the site, a Prometheus sequel would be released in 2014 or 2015. Write your reviews of the first film here.

[Random Cool] ‘Prometheus’ Caesarean Scene Gets Bloody Animated!

What I would do for the free time to be creative again. Animation artist James Lee has some free time on his hands and used it to create his own interpretation of the infamous sequence in Ridley Scott’s now released Prometheus.

Love the Alien or not, the caesarean sequence is easily one of the great moments in cinema history. In it, Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) attempts to surgically remove an alien from her stomach. Lee animates this great moment, but instead of terror, cut out a heavy dose comedy instead.

Now in theaters, Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define. With Prometheus he creates a groundbreaking mythology in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. write your own review here.

What David Said To The Engineer In Theatrical Cut Of ‘Prometheus’ Only Part Of The Story

Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, the Alien-ish prequel still in theaters from Twentieth Century Fox, isn’t going away any time soon. Or at least its echo isn’t dissipating. Love it, hate it or somewhere in between (and there are many folks on either side of that fence), people are continuing to talk about it.

One thing I hadn’t really given much thought to was what David said to the Engineer near the end of the film. I just sort of took for granted that it was something in their native language that the audience wasn’t intended to understand. But it turns out they developed a small portion of that language to use in the film.

Dr. Anil Biltoo of the SOAS Language Centre in London served as the linguistics consultant on the film and taught Michael Fassbender how to speak the line. He told The Bioscopist that tt translates to, “This man is here because he does not want to die. He believes you can give him more life.” This is of course a request on the behalf of the aging Peter Weyland. What’s more interesting is that Biltoo constructed an entire conversation – including a reply from the Engineer – that Ridley Scott filmed but ultimately cut from the film.

Per Biltoo, “We’re all going to have to wait for the Director’s cut to see if the conversation between the Engineer and David – and there was indeed originally a conversation, not merely an utterance from David.

There are whispers that there will be a subtitled version of the scene on the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray of the film. I have a pretty good theory on why the Engineers want to wipe out humanity, but for those who want a definitive answer – this scene may just provide it.

Meet Your Maker: First Look At An Elder Engineer From ‘Prometheus’ Opening Sequence!

Something special just appeared over at the Prometheus Forum. The site just landed more than a handful of behind-the-scenes images from the making-of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, his Alien-ish prequel now in theaters from Twentieth Century Fox.

Within the batch of pic they share the first ever look at the reported “Elder Engineer” played by Matthew Rook and all of this suggests scenes of the opening being filmed that didn’t make it to the theatrical cut. It’s also presumed that these Elders actually created the Engineers, much like the humans created David the android. I guess we’ll know more when they get around to making the sequel. [Interview] Damon Lindelof On The Origins Of The Engineers And Whatever’s In The Final Shot Of ‘Prometheus’

I think we’re pretty much winding down on our coverage of Prometheus. But I’ve been saving this brief tidbit for last. To recap, here’s Brad’s review and David Harley’s thoughts. And if you’ve seen the movie here’s my spoiler-filled take.

Speaking of spoilers, I pulled Damon Lindelof aside for a few minutes when I was in London last week. I had some specific questions that I knew I couldn’t ask in my on-camera interview with him, so I decided to go in for a brief one on one. I was actually surprised by how forthcoming he was and my few questions were answered more thoroughly than I thought they would be.

[Spoiler Warning] ‘Prometheus’ Deleted Scene Revealed, More On That ****** Alien, Elder Engineers!

So much for being done with Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

While I felt there was plenty clarity in the Alien prequel, many readers have felt confused by the lack of explanation. We learned quite a bit in Ryan Daley’s story posted this morning about the newly released “Prometheus: The Art of the Film”. And while his look inside revealed quite a bit, my own digging discovered even more.

Major spoilers do follow. You have been warned.

First, the opening sequence revealed a man, on some planet, drinking some ooze that causes him to break down into DNA that apparently created life. Some of the production art revealed “Elder Engineers” that were originally part of this sequence. Early trailer descriptions also revealed these cloaked figures were actually in the film, while IMDB once listed both Darwin Shaw and Matthew Rook cast as these “Elders”. The thought is that these Elders are actually the creator of the Engineers, a reveal saved for the sequel. A deleted scene perhaps?

The most shocking discover, by far, is that of what appears to be a varient version of the “zombie” Holloway (played by Logan Marshall-Green). In the film, Holloway becomes infected, and thus returns as some sort of zombie version of himself (pictured). BUT, one of the leaked images show that Scott’s original intent was for him to transform into a Xenomorph-ish creature. Readers on the boards indicate they believe this creature to either be Millburn (Rafe Spall) or Fifield (Sean Harris).

Lastly, we’ve also added an image of what appears to be the Engineers’ home planet. This is unconfirmed.

We’ve added all imagery inside for you to carouse through. Tell us what you think! READ MORE
