Director and co-creator Jaume Balagueró promises insane new weapons with the official motion poter for Filmax International’s hotly anticipated [REC]4 Apocalypse, which is now in pre-production.

The full poster, exclusive to Bloody Disgusting, is now on display at the ongoing Cannes market. It shows returning protagonist Angela Vidal, played once again by Manuela Velasco, rocking a vicious weapon, which is sure to carve out buckets of gore when used in the movie. Rev up your chainsaw and enjoy the moving image below!

Bloody reader ‘daggy92′ tipped us off to a pair of international teaser posters (that will probably turn out to be fan made) for Filmax International’s [REC] 4 Apocalypse, the fourth and final installment of the [REC] series to be directed by franchise co-creator Jaume Balaguero.

[REC] 4 Apocalypse, produced by Julio Fernandez for Filmax, is to begin filming any month now.

“Angela Vidal, the young television reporter who entered the building with the fireman, manages to make it out alive. But what the soldiers don’t know is that she carries the seed of the strange infection.

She is to be taken to a provisional quarantine facility, a high-security installation where she will have to stay in isolation for several days. An old oil tanker, miles off shore and surrounded by water on all sides, has been especially equipped for the quarantine.” READ MORE

Director Jaume Balagueró ([Rec] and [Rec] 2) switches gears a bit with his creepy new film Sleep Tight. The film was written by Alberto Marini (Films to Keep You Awake: To Let) and inhabits a much different tonal space than the [REC] films.

To that end I recently shot Balagueró a few questions via email. We touched on the change of pace this film represents, working with 700 live cockroaches and what to expect from his next directorial effort, [REC] 4: Apocalypse

IN the film “Toiling silently among the residents of an everyday Barcelona apartment building, doorman César (Luis Tosar, Even the Rain, Miami Vice) harbors a dark secret: his sole desire in life is to make others unhappy. When he sets his sights on Clara (Marta Etura, Cell 211, Dark Blue Almost Black), one of his building’s cheeriest residents, his sick need blossoms into a full-fledged obsession.” Sleep Tight was nominated for more than 20 awards in Spain and won six Gaudi Awards, including Best Director, Best Actor for Luis Tosar and Best Screenplay.

Filmax International has unveiled the first official teaser trailer (different than the pre-AFM one) for [REC] 4 Apocalypse, the fourth and final installment of the [REC] series to be directed by franchise co-creator Jaume Balaguero. I can only hope that Balaguero returns to the found footage trope with this fourth and final entry

Just in time for Sitges Filmax International has officially unveiled its sales trailer for [REC] 4 Apocalypse, the fourth and final installment of the [REC] series to be directed by franchise co-creator Jaume Balaguero. It should be known that there is no actual footage from the sequel as it has yet to go behind cameras.

Just the other day we reported that Filmax International has prepared a teaser trailer for [REC] 4 Apocalypse, the fourth and final installment of the [REC] series to be directed by franchise co-creator Jaume Balaguero. This morning the official Facebook shared the title treatment for the fourth and final entry. I can only hope that Balaguero returns to the found footage trope.

The International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia will host the exclusive premiere of the teaser, which can be seen on the night of Friday, October 5, at 1 am in the auditorium of the Hotel Melia. The teaser precedes the Found Footage marathon.

Full Plot Details For Both [REC] Sequels, Genesis and Apocalypse!

Thanks to BD reader “RECFAN”, we’ve now landed the official plot crunch to Paco Plaza’s [REC]3: Genesis and Jaume Balagueró’s [REC]4: Apocalypse.

Leticia Dolera and Diego Martin star in Genesis, which is seeking a release later this year: In the film, the action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment the future [REC]4 Apocalypse.

Work Begins on ‘[REC] 4 Apocalypse’

I’m a little surprised that Filmax’s [REC] 3: Genesis isn’t premiering at the forthcoming TIFF, but it’s quite possible that the film just won’t be done in time. Still, while the Paco Plaza-directed sequel is in post production, Jaume Balagueró is already in pre-production on [REC] 4 Apocalypse, the final installment in the zombie/possession franchise that took cinema verite to an entirely new level.

Via Twitter Balagueró explained, “Launched the screenplay of REC Apocalypse. Blood will run, I fear.” Further adding, “First track REC 4: lots of red, of course, but also blue. # forgiveness?”

The only details are that this new film will bring the [REC] saga to its end.
