‘REC 3: Genesis’ DVD Release Carries 12 Deleted Scenes!

Horror fans are cordially invited to witness a day of unholy matrimony in the terrifying new thriller REC 3: Genesis (review), available November 6th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. And as usual, there will be no Blu-ray release (such bullshit).

The next chapter in the heart-stopping REC series follows one young couple’s big day as it turns into one big nightmare when a viral outbreak transforms their wedding guests into blood-thirsty zombies. Paco Plaza, writer and director of the original REC, which inspired the hit movie Quarantine, returns to stage more blood-curdling suspense and shocking moments in this high-octane fright fest. The film stars Javier Botet (original REC and REC 2), Leticia Dolera (Imagining Argentina, Man Push Cart) and Diego Martin (TV’s “Doctor Mateo,” I Want You). Now, movie fans can now catch the latest “recorded” tale of real-world technology capturing otherworldly horror when REC 3: Genesis breaks out on DVD.

Bonus features on the disc include 12 deleted scenes along with a blooper reel.

Koldo and Clara are about to celebrate the most important day of their lives: their wedding. Everything appears to be running smoothly, and the bride, the groom and their families are enjoying a wonderful day in the countryside… until some of the guests start showing signs of a strange illness. Before they know what’s happening, the bride and groom find themselves in the middle of a hellish ordeal, as an uncontrollable torrent of violence is unleashed on the wedding. Exclusive! ‘[REC 4]: Apocalypse’ Will Not Be Found Footage!

Magnet Releasing has scheduled [REC] 3: Genesis for release next week and I spoke with director Paco Plaza today about that film. While Plaza and Jaume Balagueró co-directed the first two installments, they decided to split up parts 3 and 4, with Plaza taking Genesis and Balagueró tackling [REC] 4: Apocalypse.

While the bulk of our interview (which will hit next week in its entirety) concerned the super-fun Genesis, Plaza was able to talk a bit about the fourth installment. There’s a moment in [REC] 3, which is a prequel to the first two films, where the camera gets put down and it switches into a more traditional film. Apparently Balagueró’s [REC] 4 takes it a step further by not being found footage at all – even though it picks up moments after [REC] 2 ends.

Per Plaza, “It’s true that it takes place after ‘[REC] 2′. And it is going to be shot [differently]. It is not going back to found footage, it is going to be a cinematic narrative. A conventional film. I don’t want to say much more, I can’t say too much. I don’t want to get in trouble!

For you found footage fans, don’t worry. When Plaza puts the POV-cam down in [REC] 3, he’s not dissing the genre. “It’s not that I wanted to make a statement. There are still excellent found footage films like ‘Paranormal Activity 3′. It’s not saying ‘found footage is over’ or anything. I just wanted to surprise the audience and deliver something different [after the first two films].

Get more on the official Facebook. [REC] 3: Genesis hits VOD on Friday, August 3 and select theaters on Friday, September 7. You can check out the trailer inside. Look for our full interview with Plaza before the film’s release next week! READ MORE

[Special Feature] Toto Watches… ‘[REC]‘!

Toto Miranda is new to horror.

Or, at least horror as you and I know it. He’s a film buff (and musician – as a member of The Octopus Project he’s one of the loudest drummers on the planet) and has a huge amount of respect for the horror genre, but is just now getting around to seeing a few movies that some of us less-well-adjusted folks call “classics”.

Remember the thrill you got when you first realized you were a true horror fan? Remember the excitement of realizing just how many awesome movies you hadn’t seen yet? We’re hoping to recapture some of that excitement through Toto’s eyes as he watches some of our favorite horror movies for the very first time.

Take The Ultimate Horror Challenge!!! What’s Your Score?

This isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. Nor does it contain every major work of every horror auteur (you’ll notice we didn’t include John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). Rather, this is a compendium of films that we feel – in one way or another – are essential viewing for every horror fan. Some are mainstream (Poltergeist), some aren’t (Cannibal Holocaust). It’s a broad sampling of key films from the genre.

But you don’t have to be a horror die-hard to take the challenge! If you’re comfortable being a “Soccer Mom”, simply clock how many of these you have (or haven’t) seen and let us know! There are 61 Films listed below the jump. Each film you’ve seen earns you 1 Point. Count out how many you’ve seen and let us know which category you fall into. You can give us your specific count in the comments or yell at us for the films we’ve left out!! The categories are:

[BD Review] [REC] 3 Genesis Forgets Its Roots, Disappoints

Paco Plaza’s [REC] 3 Genesis, the prequel to the found footage zombie/exorcism franchise, premiered yesterday at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. And unfortunately, it doesn’t live up to expectations. Mr. Disgusting writes in with his review.

The sequel becomes your stereotypical infected horror film, with most of the scares coming from off-screen jolts (with loud audio stings), and the rest filled with violent death scenes that shockingly didn’t get much of an audience reaction. It was really interesting watching theatergoers sit in silence as people are chain sawed in half and decapitated, which was telling of the poor choice in losing the cameras. While the loud stings had all of us jumping, there was no post-scare chatter, and even worse is that none of this will work on a home theater system, which is where most of you will see this.

In the film, “Koldo and Clara are about to celebrate the most important day of their lives: their wedding. Everything appears to be running smoothly and the bride and groom and their families are enjoying a wonderful day; that is until some of the guests start showing signs of a strange illness. Before they know what’s happening, the bride and groom find themselves in the middle of a hellish ordeal, as an uncontrollable torrent of violence is unleashed on the wedding.

[OMFG] ‘[REC]‘ Gets First Person Shooter Game in 2012!

[OMFG] [REC] Gets First Person Shooter Game in 2012!

Bloody Disgusting has learned that Tonika Games has reached an agreement with Filmax to create a video game based on Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza’ [REC] franchise!

As translated, the game will faithfully reproduce the content of much of the story, divided into four worlds, one for each part of the franchise. So, at first, users will enjoy the first two phases which will be referring to [REC] and [REC] 2, and after premiering as they are the third and fourth installment.

The official game of [REC] has been developed with Unity3D technology, a powerful game engine used to create products on multiple platforms, including hardcore Platforms PlayStation and mobile devices such as iPhone and Android.

In the design and development process is taken into account very scary atmosphere of the film, employing a dynamic lighting scheme and a special surround sound library. First Official Casting for ‘REC: Genesis’!

Fans of Filmax’s REC franchise get ready for two more films as co-creator Paco Plaza is now in pre-production on REC: Genesis, the third film that set up the fourth and final REC: Apocalypse.

Bloody Disgusting learned exclusively that Leticia Dolera (pictured) – who ironically played a reporter in the REC spoof Spanish Movie – and Diego Martin will topline the Spanish-language film that’s shooting to be completed in 2011.

The action in REC: Genesis encompasses the events of the first two films and after the sense of claustrophobia previously experiences. The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment the future REC: Apocalypse.

Hi-Res Teaser Posters for ‘REC’ Sequels, ‘Genesis’ and ‘Apocalypse’!!

Bloody Disgusting scored a hi-res look at the very first two teaser posters (but to be very clear, they are not final art) for Paco Plaza’s REC Genesis and Jaume Balaguero’s REC Apocalypse, the last two Spanish-language gore pics in the hit zombie franchise that continues the cinema verite-style of horror. Skedded for delivery fall 2011 and fall 2012, Genesis and Apocalypse were greenlit by Filmax Entertainment, one of Spain’s leading production outfits, in May. REC and REC2, which bowed at Venice and played Spain’s Sitges festival, have been critical and commercial successes — even yielding a U.S. remake, Jennifer Carpenter starrer Quarantine, exec produced by Filmax’ managing director Carlos Fernandez and chairman Julio Fernandez.
