‘Outlast’ Gets A Terrifying Extended Trailer Just In Time For Halloween

Happy Halloween! I have the tricks if you have my treats. Actually, I have treats too, and they’re coming in the form of special Halloween trailers from several upcoming games. The first one is an extended look at Outlast — a survival horror game from new startup Red Barrels Games that should definitely be on your radar if it isn’t already. This game looks terrifying, and if it plays anything like what we see in this trailer, I can see it becoming the next big survival horror game. I’d call it the Amnesia of next year, but with A Machine for Pigs, we kinda already have that. Check out the trailer after the break.

‘Outlast’ Aims To Bring Brains Back To Survival Horror

The horror genre isn’t exactly known for its excess of successful games. You have a select few, your Resident Evils and Dead Spaces, that manage to consistently sell well, but for the most part, it’s difficult to find success in this genre. That only makes brand new startup Red Barrels Games’ first project, a survival horror game called Outlast, all the more ambitious. Founded by industry veterans, including several of the minds behind Prince of Persia, Assassin’s Creed, and Splinter Cell — at the very least we can take comfort in knowing this team knows what they’re doing.

Oh, and by brains, I don’t mean the brain-munching undead. When discussing their goals for Outlast, studio co-founder Philippe Morin said “There are already a lot of great games out there about terrifying monsters that eat brains; we want Outlast’s to be scary because you’ll know the enemies you face still have them.” Enemies with brains? Color me intrigued. Head past the jump for our first look at the game in its freaky debut teaser.
