10 Favorite Females In Horror By Knee High Fox’s Christine Connolly

Female characters are perhaps one of the hottest, touchiest topics in horror. Are they there as damsels in distress? Are they there simply for scintillating, sexual eye candy? Are they equal to their male counterparts? Regardless of the thoughts surrounding this subject, there is no argument that horror has provided some truly badass female characters.

And with all this in mind, Knee High Fox singer Christine Connolly (who also appeared in 2006′s Underworld: Evolution) has put together a list of her 10 Favorite Females In Horror, which you can check out below!

Also below is the music video for “Black Widow”, which you can purchase on iTunes. The band will be releasing their debut album sometime in 2013. It is being produced by Howard Benson (Halestorm, Red, Art Of Dying). READ MORE

[Album Review] Rhys Marsh And The Autumn Ghost ‘The Blue Hour’

I am a huge fan of 60′s and 70′s progressive rock and I also have a special place in my heart for experimental folk. Something about these styles of music captures my imagination and interest. Perhaps it’s the sense of total and utter creative freedom that these artists seem to exude. Perhaps it’s the wealth of instruments and tones used. In the end, however, it doesn’t really matter as I can just sit back and truly enjoy this music.

So imagine my utter delight upon sitting back with Rhys Marsh And The Autumn Ghost‘s The Blue Hour and realizing that I was entering an album that sounded like it was directly transported from 1970′s UK. With elements of King Crimson‘s In The Court Of The Crimson King and Red as well as Pink Floyd, this album seemed poised to play directly to my tastes. But did that delight linger on throughout or fade as one track ended and the next began? Read on to find out. READ MORE

King Crimson’s Robert Fripp Quits The Music Business: Tears Pour Down My Face

Robert Fripp, the only original member of prog-rock band King Crimson, recently granted a rare interview with UK Financial Times in which he stated, “…I made the choice to give up my career as a musician in the frontline to deal with the business.” He continues, saying, “My life as a professional musician is a joyless exercise in futility.” The full interview can be read here.

Part of this stems from Kanye West‘s sampling of “21st Century Schizoid Man” in his song “Power”, which was done without Fripp’s approval. As a matter of fact, the song had racked up over 1 million views before he was even approached regarding its use. This is one of many grievances that Fripp has with the music industry and with Universal Music Group, the largest record label in the world, whom Fripp has been embroiled in a dispute with for over five years.

I’ve been a huge fan of King Crimson for many years, have seen them live, and even flew out to San Francisco to see Robert Fripp do his Soundscapes as an opening for Porcupine Tree. So, as you can probably imagine, this is a pretty big blow for me. I know that original Fripp releases were becoming increasingly rarer and rarer but there was always hope in my heart that new music would come out. Below are some of my favorite Crimson songs that I’ll be listening to throughout the day. READ MORE

[Album Review] Baroness ‘Yellow & Green’

Hailing from Savannah, Georgia, Baroness is a four-piece group that plays a mixture of sludge and melodic metal with traces of prog and a sprinkle of punk. With elements of these genres, you KNOW that I was intrigued to listen to their latest offering. After all, they’ve toured with Metallica, Opeth, Clutch, Mastodon, and many more influential, fantastic artists. Add to this the fact that both Red and Blue are fascinating, incredible albums, and I was all set to sit back and delve into the two-disc set that is Yellow & Green. So, was I satisfied or left wanting? READ MORE
