Baroness To Embark On Spring US Headlining Tour

Savannah, Georgia progressive sludge metal band Baroness has announced a US headlining tour that will kick off May 24th in Philadelphia, the adopted hometown of guitarist/singer John Baizley. The band will be touring in support of their new album Yellow & Green (review), which was released last year but saw very little touring due to a horrific bus accident less than a month after the album’s release.

Guitarist Pete Adams explains, “It’s hard to find the words to express how excited we are to announce this tour. Seven months ago, who knew when it would be or even if we could get back on the road. But here we are, picking right back up where we left off. A heartfelt thanks to everyone’s unconditional love and support for us through, let’s hope, the hardest time this band will ever see. We told you we’d be back so let’s do this thing!

It was recently announced that bassist Matt Maggioni and drummer Allen Bickle had quit the band. Baizley and Adams will be joined by bassist Nick Jost and drummer Sebastian Thomson for the tour.

The full touring schedule can be seen below. READ MORE

Pig Destroyer Release Never Before Heard EP ‘Mass And Volume’

Grindcore band Pig Destroyer has released a never before heard EP entitled Mass & Volume in dedication to Relapse Records member Pat Egan, who recently passed away due to complications stemming from pneumonia. All proceeds of the album will be going to a college fund for Pat’s daughter, Katie. The EP can be purchased here or below.

The band comments, “Pat Egan was a friend and a keystone member of the Relapse family for many of the years we have been involved with it. He devoted his life to supporting underground music and he immeasurably helped develop the bands he worked with. His untimely passing on February 18 2013 shocked the many people that his life and work had touched.

The band explains the EP, saying, “This EP was written and recorded during the final day of the Phantom Limb sessions with unexpected extra studio time and resources. In the following years, with Natasha being released on its own and Brian no longer being in the band, our intentions of releasing Mass & Volume basically evaporated. However, looking back now, Mass & Volume serves as a great epilogue to that particular era of the band.READ MORE

Pig Destroyer Resign With Relapse Records

Grind metal band Pig Destroyer have resigned to Relapse Records fresh after the release of their fifth studio album Book Burner, which came out Oct. 22nd. The band commented issued some comments celebrating this event:

Super excited to be a part of the extraordinary Relapse Records again! A song comes to mind in the melody of the “Team America” jingle. “Relapse, FUCK YEAH! Once again, signing a muthafuckin contract!” – Adam Jarvis

Relapse has been a great home for both ANb and Pig Destroyer since the very early days. We’re not an easy band to deal with but Relapse has been patient, enthusiastic, and accommodating to our headache-inducing schedules, our strict adherence to not touring or behaving like a normal band, and just generally being pains-in-the-asses. We wouldn’t trade that for anything.” – Scott Hull

“I don’t always sign contracts with record labels, but when I do, I choose Relapse.” – JR Hayes

Pig Destroyer Release Incredible Video For “The Diplomat”

Relapse Records artist Pig Destroyer has released a video for “The Diplomat”, which comes off their latest album Book Burner (order here), their first release in five years. Directed by Phil Mucci, the video is a beautifully crafted piece of art that includes monkeys shooting the ever living crap out of each other, a corrupt, demonic businessman and a chauffeur that reminds me of something out of Jacob’s Ladder. One could easily look at this video and find it very satirical to a certain ongoing series of current events (COUGHthe electionCOUGH).

Baroness Announce New Album ‘Yellow & Green’

Progressive sludge metal band Baroness have announced that their newest album, Yellow & Green, will be coming out July 17th via Relapse Records. This release sees the band reteaming with Blue Record producer John Congleton (Explosions In the Sky) and was recorded over nearly the entirety of 2011. The album will be a 2CD/LP release.

Front man John Baizley states, “We had been on tour for eight years, and we decided to take a break from our adventure to dig our heels in at home and write a new record. We spent the entirety of the past year dedicating ourselves to the new album. Without the break from touring and the time we took to rest and reflect, we would have been entirely unable to write this new record. We have become re-inspired. Now it’s time to get back out on the road.”

The band will be joining Meshuggah for a month-long US tour starting April 29th. READ MORE

Meshuggah Announces Tour With Baroness And Decapitated

meshuggah2012touradmatteaser Meshuggah Announces Tour With Baroness And Decapitated
Is this year shaping up for some awesome tours or what? There’s already the Heritage Hunter Tour and now we’ve got The Ophidian Trek Tour, which has Baroness and Decapitated supporting headlining act Meshuggah! You bet your ass I’ll be at St. Andrews Hall on May 16th. If they play Bleed or Pulling Straws At Random, I might end up in the middle of the pit with a thirst for blood. Or the more likely scenario will be me looking rather silly as I headbang far too wildly. Yup, that’s what’s going to happen.
Meshuggah has also announced a new album, Koloss. Full details for that album can be found here. Tour dates for The Ophidian Trek Tour are below.

Opeth, Mastodon, Ghost Tour Confirmed: Here Are The Tour Dates

heritagehuntermatteaser Opeth, Mastodon, Ghost Tour Confirmed: Here Are The Tour Dates
Although a Mastodon/Opeth/Ghost tour was confirmed by Mastodon bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders, there weren’t any tour dates or official statements to back up the claim. Well, that has all changed now as the full touring schedule has been released! Dubbed the Heritage Hunter Tour, the trek will see the three bands touring from April 4th until May 12th. I’m personally more excited for this tour than any other one in recent memory. Looks like I’m heading to Grand Rapids!
Opeth vocalist/guitarist Mikael Akerfeldt: “We’re touring North America together with Mastodon soon. Nice! One of the very few metal bands of today that I genuinely like. Good people too!  Ghost are coming with us as well, and they are one of the hottest new bands to come out of Sweden in recent years, and I dig them too. I sound like an old fart, don’t I? Well, I am.
“Yet, am I right in thinking that this tour, this line up, is pretty decent? Would you all agree? Not complete s—, is it? Hope to see y’all out there! What are we playing? Not sure yet, but considering the company, maybe we’ll have to pull out the big guns from time to time. In order to keep up, I mean.”

Mastodon, Opeth, Ghost Teaming Up For N. American Tour

In a recent interview with Studio Brussel, bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders of Mastodon confirmed a N. American tour with Swedish prog metal band Opeth and Swedish NWOBHM band Ghost. When asked about the future plans for the band, Sanders replied, “We go to Australia take part in the Soundwave Festival, which is going to be lovely… Take a short break. Do a North American tour with Opeth and Ghost.” As of now, no tour dates have been confirmed. Below are some videos you can check out to see how perfectly everything goes together.

Okay, my mind is blown. This might be one of the best lineups I’ve seen in a LONG time. Each of these bands has incredible music and the thought of getting to check out Ghost on the big stage is unreal. This is one of those shows that I’ll come to early, make sure I get a great view, and then I won’t move for the rest of the show. Beer server! Bring me more ale!

Cephalic Carnage Release Disappointing Video For Abraxas Of Filth
Ever since Cephalic Carnage released their video for Ohrwurm, I’ve been eagerly anticipating a new video. Newly released is the video for Abraxas Of Filth, off their album Misled By Certainty and it seriously disappoints. Not only is it not shocking or controversial in any way, it looks like it was shot by a bunch of amateurs in a garage. A huge disappointment, you can watch the sham for yourself after the jump.

Boston-based shoegaze-rock phenoms Junius have been causing a major stir in the past few months. Following the release of their critically acclaimed full-length album, “The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist,” and being heralded by some of the country’s largest press outlets, the band repeatedly impressed audiences at this year’s SXSW marathon, helping to land them on two upcoming US tours which begin next week (one this month with rock supergroup Orbs, and the other happening this Fall supporting Volcom rock heroes Valient Thorr and Relapse Records’ newest and most brutal signing, Howl).
Now, just as they prepare to set off on months of non-stop touring, Junius have announced appearances at two of the year’s most renowned music festivals, Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest (sharing the stage w/ Devo, MGMT, Polvo, Man Man, Capn’ Jazz, The Hold Steady and more), and the other at Gainesville, Florida’s punk rock gathering, The Fest, where they’ll perform alongside some of the most worshipped acts in the underground punk scene including Frank Turner, High on Fire, Leatherface, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Teenage Bottlerocket, and countless others.
