‘Resident Evil: Revelations HD’ Looks Insanely Difficult On Infernal Mode

Do you consider yourself to be a Resident Evil fan? A skilled warrior who’s eliminated many a Ganado, Majini, or zombie? If you answered with a resounding, triumphant yes, then Resident Evil: Revelations HD’s Infernal Mode is for you. It isn’t your average “hard” difficulty, as it mixes the enemy and item placement on top of being intensely difficult. See it in action after the break, sans chatty Germans.

Paul W.S. Anderson Likely Returning To ‘Resident Evil 6′, Film To Be Released September 12th, 2014

Now that Sony Screen Gems has set a release date of September 12th, 2014 (per Sony), it’s hard to imagine that Paul W.S. Anderson won’t be back for Resident Evil 6. He’s gone on record numerous times stating that he intended to start, and complete, a new trilogy that began with Resident Evil: Afterlife and continued with last September’s Resident Evil: Retribution.

While Retribution‘s domestic take wasn’t exactly enormous, its worldwide gross was $221,810,789 (Afterlife had an even more impressive cume of $296,221,663). In the Dickson house, we don’t care if your money comes from Japan, Bulgaria or wherever, just as long as it’s money. Most other businesses feel the same way, hence the continued march of the series.

Even though these movies aren’t always my cup of tea, I felt that Retribution was easily the best. What would YOU like to see in the soon-to-be-retitled Resident Evil 6?

Feast Your Eyes On 30 Minutes Of ‘Resident Evil: Revelations HD’ Footage

Want to watch some chatty Germans play thirty minutes of Resident Evil: Revelations HD? Of course you do. This is worth watching — muted — to get a look at the upcoming port’s enhanced visuals. It looks fantastic and I really can’t wait to get my hands on it when the game releases for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U on May 21st.

The J’avo From ‘Resident Evil 6′ Has A Face Only A Mother Could Love

Some of the enemies in Resident Evil 6 may have bordered on comical — I’m looking at you, man with the giant chicken legs — but there were a few that were genuinely freaky. The basic enemy you come across in RE6 is the J’avo, a mutated, mostly-human creature that has freaky spider eyes and a fondness for sprouting fucking chicken legs. They’re ugly and I was always happy to put them down. Cosplayer Toten2 has taken the J’avo’s… unique face and brought it into the real world. The results are a little gross. Check him out after the jump!

This ‘Resident Evil’ Mod For ‘Minecraft’ Will Blow You Away

We’ve covered Resident Evil creations in Minecraft before, but I’ve never seen something quite like this. It’s a quality mod that adds two new ores (ruby and steel), herbs, weapons, RPD armor, weapons, enemies, and more from the Resident Evil universe. I’m especially fond of Wesker’s armor, because that man knows how to dress. Or he did (RIP, man). I would’ve liked to see arguably the most iconic item from the RE games make its way into the mod — the ink ribbons and/or typewriter — but everything else is so well done that complaining about something like that would be nitpicky. Check out the mod after the jump!

Let’s Get To Know ‘Resident Evil’s’ Leading Lady With A Jill Valentine Retrospective

On Valentine’s Day, Capcom paid tribute to Jill Valentine, one of the main characters from the Resident Evil games. Yes, I know I’m late with this. Forgive me, for the Internet is vast and awfully difficult to keep track of. If you’re not as familiar with Ms. Valentine as you’d like to be and you have around ten minutes to get to know her a little better, this is definitely worth watching. Even if you’re crazy familiar with her and the Resident Evil games, it’s still interesting to see her character change over the years, from STARS officer to the badass, skin-tight suit wearing superhero Jill we know and love/hate today.

This ‘Resident Evil 0′ Cosplay Makes Me Nostalgic For The Old Days

Fans of the classic Resident Evil games have been clamoring for Capcom to return the series to its roots in survival horror since forever, it seems. More often than not, when you ask an RE fan what their favorite entry in the series is you’re likely to hear them say either RE1, RE2, or RE4. Unfortunately, Resident Evil 0 often gets overlooked, despite being an awesome game. I don’t see very many cosplayers taking on the game, but Akusesu has filled this RE0 shaped hole in my aching heart with some fantastic renditions of Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen. Check them out after the break.

‘Resident Evil: Revelations’ Will Make Full, And Entirely Optional, Use Of The Wii U’s GamePad

The GamePad is arguably the most exciting thing about the Wii U, and like most new technologies, it’ll likely take some time to reach its potential. It’s understandable that many developers are still trying find uses for it that actually gives us a reason to purchase the Wii U version of a multi-platform game. ZombiU used it in an interesting way by forcing you to look away the screen during potentially dangerous situations for inventory management and things like that. Resident Evil: Revelations will use it in the same way, but this time it’s optional. Capcom is giving us multiple ways to play, so if you want to use the GamePad you can do that, or you can use a Wii U Pro controller. What platform will you be purchasing Revelations on?

HUNK And Jill Surface In This Brand New ‘Resident Evil: Revelations’ Footage

Capcom will soon be bringing the previously Nintendo 3DS exclusive Resident Evil: Revelations to pretty much every other console available right now, including the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U. It looks great, and while much of that can be attributed to the fact that it’s easily one of the best looking games on the 3DS, Capcom did work on improving the graphics with this version. After the break you can find our first ever look at HUNK in action, as well as a batch of screenshots that focus on fan-favorite Jill Valentine.

Gears Of War Designer Says “True Horror Games” Will See A Resurgence When Games Go Digital

Cliff Bleszinski, known Resident Evil fan, former creative director at Epic Games, and the man — or one of many — behind the Gears of War franchise took to his personal Tumblr the other day to discuss one of our favorite subjects here at BD: horror games. Or the scary ones, specifically. He had some very interesting things to say about the genre, which has not-so-gracefully transitioned into more action oriented gameplay over the last few years. Since the very beginning of this movement there has been outcry from fans of the slower paced survival horror genre. For awhile, publishers were content with the new direction because it brought them more money than the more niche survival horror genre ever could.

This could soon change. It hasn’t been until fairly recently that major horror franchises have begun to lose their luster with more action-centric entries like Resident Evil 6, Operation Raccoon City, Silent Hill: Homecoming, and Dead Space 3, to name a few, receiving significantly lower review scores than earlier and more horror-driven installments.

6 Unforgettable Jump Scares In Video Games!

Let’s talk about jump scares. Not everyone likes them. In fact, ever since some of our favorite franchises took the inevitable plunge into action horror, jump scares have become the bane of many a horror fan’s existence. Dead Space has been criticized for relying on them too heavily, Doom 3′s abundance of monster closets were a common complaint, and more recently, Capcom tried to toss a few into Resident Evil 6 — Leon’s campaign in particular — in their attempt to make it appeal to horror fans. That obviously didn’t work, but sometimes, a jump scare can be well designed. Like any good scare, timing is important, as is building up to the moment (and I’m not talking about fading the music before a loud noise — I’m looking at you, Hollywood).

You might not be a fan of them, but when they’re well done they can be great. Here are six games that did them particularly well.

They also discussed their list of the best horror games of 2012. They also went pretty deep into the world of horror games from the Playstation 1 and 2. They even went back in time and searched horror on the Atari and Colecovision. The boys get weird as usual, but that’s what you guys like best about the podcast. Right? READ MORE

There Were “Too Many” ‘Resident Evil’ Games Released Over The Last Two Years, Says Capcom Producer

In the last two years we’ve seen the release of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D and Revelations for the 3DS, Resident Evil 6, Operation Raccoon City, as well as the re-release of Resident Evil 4, Code Veronica X, Umbrella Chronicles, and Darkside Chronicles (the latter two came bundled together). That’s a lot of Resident Evil, perhaps too much, says Revelations producer Masachika Kawata.

Speaking with Video Gamer, Kawata admitted that “putting on a lot of titles [does] not necessarily win over gamers.” More after the break.

6 MORE Horrifying Moments In Video Games!

We gamers put ourselves through a lot, and we do so in the name of fun. We tell ourselves t”his is entertainment,” before we open that creaky door and enter a room to fight a gargantuan living mass of bone and jagged metal with nothing but a pipe and a prayer. I’ve been a gamer for most of my life, and over the years I’ve seen some truly horrifying things. When a stranger asks me about my escape from Raccoon City, my vacation in Silent Hill, or my time aboard the USG Ishimura, I answer them with a thoughtful silence and a thousand yard stare. It’s the only way.

If you’re reading this then you undoubtedly have tales to tell and therapy sessions to endure, so let’s get this started with a look back at six more horrifying moments in video games.

[OMFG] Capcom Confirms ‘Resident Evil’ Will Return To Its Roots With Possible Reboot

Resident Evil fans rejoice! Capcom has heard your pleas for help and they’re acting on the dissatisfaction many of you felt while playing Resident Evil 6… and Resident Evil 5. Masachika Kawata, who has been a producer on the franchise for some time now, recently spoke with IGN about Revelations’ upcoming HD port to consoles. I think a lot of what people want now is to have Chris and Jill in a game, or they want it to look like Resident Evil used to look like. That’s what makes the game work for them. We should be able to start from scratch and reboot it. It would still be Resident Evil. We wouldn’t lose the essential nature of what makes it a good game just by changing the characters.” Kawata told IGN.

Did I hear you say “start from scratch and reboot it” Kawata san? My oh my, I do believe I’ve fallen in love (that sentence is best read in a breathy Victorian woman’s voice). More after the break.

‘Resident Evil: Revelations’ Is Getting A Ridiculously Expensive Limited Edition

Did enough people drop $1,300 for that insanely overpriced Leon’s Jacket Edition of Resident Evil 6? Apparently they did, because Capcom’s announced a Jill’s Watch Edition — okay, fine, it’s called the Premium edition — for Resident Evil: Revelations, which is coming to consoles on May 21st. Now they’re giving you another chance to own a piece of Resident Evil apparel by including the watch Jill Valentine wears in Revelations, as well as the soundtrack, a BSAA wallet, and copy of the game. You can get all this for the low price of ¥39,900 or a little under $470 USD.

How Will ‘Resident Evil: Revelations’ Look On Consoles? Wonder No More

In case you missed it, earlier today Capcom confirmed that the previously Nintendo 3DS exclusive Resident Evil: Revelations is indeed coming to consoles. All of them, in fact. On May 21st, Revelations will hit the retail and digital space on the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U. It’ll also run you a pretty penny, or 4,999 of them ($49.99). That’s a lot for a port of a year-old handheld game, even if it’s a good game. I was hoping there would be more to this port and that Capcom wasn’t trying to recoup some of the money they lost on Resident Evil 6, and it looks like this will bring the goods.

Visually, it looks noticeably better than the 3DS version, even if it still won’t be mistaken for similarly priced games, and it will come with several new additions, including a playable HUNK, a harder difficulty setting, and new weapons and custom parts. After the jump I have a trailer and a still very wet batch of screenshots for your viewing pleasure.

It’s Official, Capcom Confirms ‘Resident Evil: Revelations’ Is Coming To Consoles

Hold onto your butts! Resident Evil: Revelations, arguably the best Resident Evil released last year, is coming to consoles. Mercifully, Capcom has decided to release it after the craziness that is Feb-March. Revelations will be coming to the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U on May 21 in the states and May 24 in Europe. In an unexpected move, Capcom is making the game available digitally and on retail, only the Xbox 360 and Wii U versions will release sometime after it comes to the PS3 and PC on the 21st.

Now, before you get too excited, there is a small catch. This baby is going to run you $49.99. Yeah, that’s just $10 less than a full retail game for the port of a handheld title that’s nearly a year old now. My prediction of a $20 digital-only release was way off, it seems. Hopefully this means they’re going to do more than just port it over. If you care about them (I totally do), here’s a list of cheevos that were leaked earlier this month. Now that it’s official, is this something you’re interested in?

Here’s Everything We Know About ‘Zwei’, The Mysterious Survival Horror Game From The Creator Of ‘Resident Evil’

Shinji Mikami’s next project, a mysterious survival horror game code-named Zwei, has been silent for some time now. When I don’t hear anything from a game I tend to get a little paranoid, and outside of some concept art, (or doodles, rather) Mikami and friends haven’t peeped a word since its unveiling last April. Horror games are notorious for being the first to get the axe — just look at Del Toro’s InSane, which continues its search for a publisher — because they’re never guaranteed to sell well.

The lack of new footage, screenshots, or trailers is understandable since the game is still very early in development, but what worries me the most is how barren its website is. No marketing push is being made for this game, no one’s trying to build up a community or interest by maintaining a healthy Twitter, Facebook, or official blog. That’s scary.

‘Resident Evil 2′ Turned 15 Yesterday, Let’s Celebrate With Some Ada Wong Cosplay

Yeah, I know, I’m a day late with this. Forgive me, for I was busy reviewing one of the worst games in recent memory. Back in August, TJ and I nearly got into fisticuffs over which was the best Resident Evil. Blood was shed, harsh words were yelled, tears were wept (mostly from me), and in the end we had a clear winner. Actually, that’s a lie, even all of you couldn’t decide which game was best. At the time of this writing, and out of over 700 votes, Resident Evil 2 and RE4 are tied with 34% of the votes each. That’s crazy. So crazy I felt the urge to include proof after the break.

Obviously, there’s still a lot of love for Resident Evil 2, and understandably so. It’s an amazing game that, much like Aliens built on the foundation of its predecessor, RE2 took the series out of the Spencer Mansion and into the chaos that was Raccoon City. One of the best things about that game was the sultry special agent Ada Wong, who’s been a series mainstay since her debut in RE2. Since then, she’s took up residence in all our hearts, and especially Leon’s, who’s been smitten with her for some time now. If you don’t love her already, you will after you see this amazing cosplay I have waiting for you after the break.

6 Horror Games And The Studios That Should Make Them!

Sometimes a fresh set of eyes can bring new and interesting perspectives. When you look at the same thing for so long, it can get difficult to see its flaws, and while this can be said for many things, it’s especially true for video games. Getting a fresh perspective can be a great way to make sure a series stays engaging, to keep it from becoming stale and predictable. Franchises like Resident Evil and Silent Hill have each had games developed by studios other than the one that created them, and while the results have been a mixed bag, some of these partnerships have led to incredible games.

With this in mind, I’ve compiled a list of six game developers that I think are universally great and matched them with a horror franchise I feel they could make an incredible game for. Check out my picks after the break, and feel free to comment with your own dream matches!
