[BEST & WORST '12] Lonmonster’s List Of The Best Films Of 2012

As you can imagine, I watch a lot of horror movies, and having to choose my favorite films of the year was a righteous challenge. It’s a rare occurrence to sit through a movie and feel completely fulfilled. But it’s the great films that make my job so worthwhile. Taking the time to reflect on my favorite films of 2012 allowed me to appreciate just how wonderful horror can be. It made me proud to be a part of this community.

My list is a true melting pot, gathering studio films and indie films alike in order to showcase that good horror comes in all shapes and sizes. In fact, my top film of the year is probably the one with the lowest budget.

I had a tough time ranking my top five picks; I switched the order countless times before I finally conceded. It came down to a simple question, “Which movie stuck in my mind throughout the year above all others?” READ MORE

Tribeca Film Acquires Cabin in the Woods Horror ‘Resolution’

Mysterious forces, personal demons, dark humor and gripping performances combine in the genre-defying tour-de-force Resolution. Tribeca Film today announced it has acquired all North American rights to rising directing duo Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson’s naturalistic-yet-otherworldly thriller. The film’s enigmatic narrative and fresh take on genre filmmaking captivated audiences and critics at its Tribeca Film Festival and Fantasia International Film Festival premieres earlier this year. John Marrone was a fan, as was myself.

Michael is committed to getting his best friend Chris to sober up and put his life back on track. But what begins as an attempt to save his friend’s life quickly takes an unexpected turn as the two friends confront personal demons, the consequences of past actions, and forces beyond their control. Expertly balancing dark humor, heart, and thrills, Resolution is an utterly unique cinematic experience that defies genre classification.

Tribeca Film plans an early 2013 theatrical release day and date with on-demand platforms, where it will be available in 40+ million homes through a variety of video-on-demand offerings, as well as iTunes, Amazon Watch Instantly, VUDU and Xbox. [Fantasia '12] Lonmonster’s Mini-Reviews #2: ‘The Pact’, ‘Citadel’, ‘Resolution’ & ‘Toad Road’

The 16th annual Fantasia Film Festival is underway in Montreal, Canada. The festival is so packed this year that it’s overwhelming to even begin looking at the film schedule. The horror lineup spans across subgenres and budgets and this is precisely what makes Fantasia so special. Giving equal attention to major productions and low budget indie films, Fantasia has something for everyone.

In its 16th year, there are over 160 screenings during the three-week festival, and it would be insane to even attempt reviewing them all. I’ve been running to the various theaters to catch each flick, and I still can’t watch them all. Although it would be ideal to write full reviews, it would take way too many days, and way too many cups of coffee. What follows are mini-reviews on what I’ve seen so far at Fantasia 2012 including The Pact, Citadel, and Toad Road. READ MORE

[Tribeca '12]: Review ‘Resolution’

Chris (Vinny Curran) is a grown man, squatting in someone’s home and burning through a huge stash of crystal meth, shooting guns at the birds that keep fucking with his mind and falling out of trees in a chain of psychotic episodes that finds its way to video. His best friend Michael (Peter Cilella) receives it, has seen enough of the drug crazy behavior, and decides to intervene.

Following directions that lead him deep into the middle of nowhere, past shady streetwalkers and lawn kept llamas, Mike arrives to find Chris firing his pistol from his porch, screaming at satellites and hitting the pipe. Its a lost place that seems to magnet the strange – a place where people go to look for UFO’s, practice cult worship, hunt for secret military bases, or hallucinate heavily away from the prying eyes of the world. A dilapidated house on the edge of an Indian reservation, where bad things happen. Regardless of reason, one thing is certain – every one of its stories will have a bad ending. Or “resolution”. Including theirs… READ MORE

[Tribeca '12] A Look At ‘Resolution’, A Film That Defies Genre Classification

Rat King, Replicas… with Tribeca horror features, it’s usually pretty difficult to get a full flavor of what the films will be like, as they are often world premieres or shrouded in some sort of secrecy. That being said, there is still one film on my radar that I’m looking forward to covering for sure, and that is Resolution, directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Scott Moorhead.

The drug dealer violence / detox slant looks like it makes for some good tension, but with the synopsis saying that it defied genre classification – I got wary as to whether or not this was something BD viewers would want within their horror realm. I contacted newcomer Justin Benson and asked him what we might expect. READ MORE

Lamb Of God Featured In New True Blood Season 5 Promo

Lamb Of God Featured In New True Blood Season 5 Promo,

As you’ve probably seen by now, the season five promo teaser for HBO’s True Blood is out. It promises that, “In Bon Temps, nothing stays buried forever.” While there is speculation as to whether or not this refers to Russell Edgington, the 2900-year old former vampire king of Mississippi, the music in this teaser actually provides a rather large hint. The song is called King Me and it’s the last track on Lamb of God‘s newest album Resolution (review). Using a song that harkens to royalty only adds fuel to the rumor fire regarding Russell. Below you’ll find the promo as well as the full song. READ MORE

Lamb Of God Announces European Tour

Lamb of God are ready to take on the world and bring some Resolution (review) to Europe! The band has confirmed a full European tour as well as a stop in India and one in Israel. The trek begins in May and will continue through until July 1st. After that, one would assume they’ll be back in the States to tackle to summer festivals we have here. We’ll just have to wait and see if that’s the case! You can check out the full tour schedule below.

I haven’t been to Hangar 11 in Tel Aviv but I know Israeli crowds at rock concerts go ballistic. It’s actually an amazing sight because the energy level never subsides. If asked to clap along, Israelis will keep clapping until the very end of the song. Asked to chant “Hey!” and they’ll do it until they can’t speak anymore. End result? It’s a hell of a lot of fun!

[Review] Lamb Of God ‘Resolution’

 [Review] Lamb Of God Resolution
Resolution is to Lamb Of God in the way that The Great Southern Trendkill is to Pantera. Let me set something straight really quick: I’m not saying this because they’re both “southern metal” bands. That actually has nothing to do with my comparison. Rather, it’s the attitude of the album. It’s the tones, the style, the lyrics. It’s the atmosphere. It’s the pervading sense of violence, rage, and, snaking its way in and out, the elements of beauty. Has Lamb Of God found a timeless classic on their hands or is this an album that will divide fans?
