Relapse Records recently suffered a great loss as their Director Of Retail Sales Pat Egan passed away on Monday, Feb. 18th due to complications stemming from pneumonia. To honor his memory, Relapse has put together a 20-track tribute album that features a collection of his favorite artists and songs. All bands included have waived their royalty fees so that 100% of the proceeds can go towards a college fund for Egan’s daughter Katie. The compilation is $5 and available via Bandcamp here. Those who wish to donate via PayPal can do so at [email protected].
Our deepest condolences go out to Pat, his family and friends, and the entire Relapse Record crew. You are in our thoughts. READ MORE

Fear Factory announced yesterday that the 2012 Shockwave Festival, which saw support from such acts as Voivod, Cattle Decapitation, Misery Index, Revocation, and more, was fully and entirely cancelled. The reason? A combination of poor advance ticket sales and the fact that Voivod dropped off the tour was enough for promoters to pull the plug on the entire festival a mere two days before the start.
Fear Factory commented, “We are truly disappointed not to be part of the Shockwave tour. We send our sincerest apologies to all our North American fans planning to come out this Summer, but we will be back. Please look for Fear Factory headline dates in August.”
The website for the Shockwave Festival shows only a single page with an explanation, apology, and refund information.
Below are some thoughts on why this tour didn’t make it. READ MORE
On what might be one of the heaviest tours currently on the road, Revocation is helping melt faces every night on the 18 Nights Of Blood tour, which also features Six Feet Under and Dying Fetus (John Gallagher interview here). But for readers who are unaware of what life is like on the road, drummer Phil Dubois-Coyne has written up an exclusive blog for Bloody Disgusting. It’s quite the hilarious read and I can safely say that, as a result of the blog, I now have a reason to visit Atlanta. Find out why below!
Fear Factory posted a tour ad mat on their Facebook that shows they will be headlining the 2012 Shockwave Tour, which will also feature Voivod, Cattle Decapitation, Misery Index, Revocation, Havok, Dirge Within, Last Chance To Reason, Vildhjarta, The Browning, and Forged In Flame. The tour will begin July 6th in Seattle and end August 4th in Hollywood. Check below for the poster with all tour dates.
Personally, I’d go for Fear Factory, Voivod, Cattle Decapitation, and Vildhjarta. That being said, 11 badass bands is gonna make for one hell of a festival! READ MORE
I could’ve sworn I did an ‘OMFG Of The Day’ to this last year. But after doing some digging, it looks like I was an idiot when this was released and passed it over. Well not again! This gem of a video popped up on Today’s Big Thing and I plan on sharing it’s joy with you all!
With the newly released The Age Of Hell out and available, Chimaira is looking to hit the road and face f*ck you with a brutal metal assault. Periphery has announced a contest for all you audio techs and DJ’s out there: Remix their song ‘Icarus Lives’ and it might just appear on their upcoming EP, Icarus Lives!, which is scheduled to be released in early 2011. Here is what guitarist Misha Mansoor has said about this contest: ”Hey guys, since all of us in PERIPHERY are such huge electronic music fans, we came up with a fun idea. We want to do a remix contest for our song ‘Icarus Lives!’ just to see what all you talented folk out there could do with it. We will give you just the vocals and let you go to town on it, be it a trance, house, dubstep, electronica, glitch, drum & bass or whatever your flavor is remix. Make it as crazy or as true to the original as you want, or anything in between, we want to hear what you guys can do, but originality and creativity are always well appreciated. The best part is that the winner’s song will be on our upcoming EP that is due early next year. Have at it.”
