The Cabin in the Woods

Much like “Cloverfield,” which Goddard scripted, the “Cabin” story line provides a new twist on a classic scenario — in this case the young-people-stranded-in-the-woods horror trope.

Thor’s Chris Hemsworth stars as a young professional who visits a quaint cabin in the woods with a group of friends and ends up scratching the surface of something so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom it as time quickly runs out.

New Clip From ‘The Cabin In The Woods’ Gives You The Old Creepy Local Routine

NewCabinLand30912 New Clip From The Cabin In The Woods Gives You The Old Creepy Local Routine

A brand new clip from The Cabin In The Woods just hit over at IGN and it’s a great homage/send-up of that old “creepy local” routine we get in so many horror movies. This guy’s a little more assertive than Friday The 13th‘s Crazy Ralph, but his plot function seems to be the same. The clip appropriately refers to him as “the harbinger”.

Anyway, as long as you guys keep in mind that The Cabin In The Woods just a great movie, but not the cure for cancer, I can’t see how you’ll be disappointed when it hits on Friday, April 13th. Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams and Brian White all star.

[Special Report] Bloody Disgusting Took Minneapolis To ‘The Cabin In The Woods’, Here’s What Happened!

CabinReview31012 [Special Report] Bloody Disgusting Took Minneapolis To The Cabin In The Woods, Heres What Happened!

At this point you guys know exactly how I feel about The Cabin In The Woods, so it’s no surprise that I jumped at the recent opportunity to host a screening of the film in St. Louis Park, Minneapolis. The idea was to show the film to a group of Bloody-Disgusting readers (along with some other guests) and conduct a Q&A with its co-writer and director Drew Goddard.

I have to admit I was a little nervous about the how the audience would receive the film. Of course I love Cabin and everybody I know who has seen the film loves it. But that basically means a bunch of film critics in LA, I was curious how it would play to a group of horror fans in the middle of the country.

Any concerns I had were assuaged just moments in, when the crowd went bananas for the film’s opening scene. A moment that actually has nothing to even do with horror, they were just responding to the quality of the film itself (and its awesome title card). What followed was a screening that could legitimately be described as “raucous”, which is a word I usually avoid using in conjunction with anything.

The Q&A with Drew Goddard was conducted with an audience that had just seen the film and thus is too spoiler-heavy to reprint at the moment. I’ve included a few quotes here but I’ll be adding some of the best bits to the post-release interview that I already have waiting for you guys.

Head inside to check out some video reactions to the film from Bloody-Disgusting readers! READ MORE

[Interview] Richard Jenkins And Bradley Whitford Talk The Cabin In The Woods!

The Cabin in the Woods (review) recently took the SXSW Film Festival by storm where it was selected as the Opening Night Feature Film for the entire festival. It’s funny, bloody, and scary. Our readers should eagerly lap this one up starting on Friday, April 13.

I was lucky enough to conduct several interviews with many of the creators and participants in the film. Up first are veteran actors Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins. I was only allowed 10 minutes, one-on-two with the gentlemen, and asked not to reveal any key plot points of the film. This made an organized and cohesive interview near impossible, but I think you can still get the gist of what’s going on.

Cabin in the Woods Clip Gives Homage To Raimis Evil Dead

Lionsgate has released the first ever clip from Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard’s The Cabin in the Woods, which slasher into theaters Friday, April 13.

We’ve already seen the film (and loved it), which is why we can honestly understand the difficulty in marketing such a film. This is why I truly love the clip the Gate has selected to share with you guys. Below you’ll watch as the group of friends play a game of “true or dare” only to be interrupted by the cellar door blowing open. The clip shares the playful dialogue delivered by “Buffy”s Joss Whedon, while also giving homage to classic horror like Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead franchise. In short, this clip is a very honest representation of the high concept slasher.

An Incredibly Revealing Trailer for ‘The Cabin in the Woods’, Exclusive Still!

cabinscreen120511 An Incredibly Revealing Trailer for The Cabin in the Woods, Exclusive Still!

Who’s pushing the buttons?

While it doesn’t take much to get us horror hounds into theaters, the general audience needs to a huge push to support our genre. Lionsgate has released their first official trailer for the hotly anticipated The Cabin in the Woods, their high concept slasher arriving in theaters Friday, April 13, 2012. And while the average moviegoer may need a heft of footage to get their ass into a theater seat, all we need to hear is that it’s a slasher from Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard and Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Weadon. Footage? We don’t need it, which is why I implore you to avoid watching the spoiler-filled trailer that reveals more than a lot.

But if you insist on continuing forth, Lionsgate has undoubtably assembled an array of footage that’s sure to pique your interest and have you asking more questions than when all you knew was that this was the “slasher to end all slashers.” The official plot tease goes like this: “A group of friends at a cabin retreat scratch the surface of something so massive and horrific that they can only begin to fathom it as time quickly runs out. If you think you know this story, think again. ‘Cabin in the Woods’ is a mind-blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out.

More Humor Injected Into ‘The Cabin in the Woods’ Poster Tease

I find it absolutely hilarious that nearly every single news story now carries Thor and star Chris Hemsworth’s name in the title, but the real focus should be on the “hype factor” that was diminished when MGM put the film (and its own company) in limbo.

Before getting exiled, “Lost” and Cloverfield director Drew Goddard’s The Cabin in the Woods 3D was shrouded in secrecy, called the “slasher to end all slasher films” and described as a new twist on a classic scenario — in this case the young-people-stranded-in-the-woods horror trope. We personally know the film carries an array of creatures…so chew on that a bit.

Now that Lionsgate has acquired the film for a supposed October 28th release, it’s time to get the steam circulating once again. This weekend the official Twitter page posted a pretty hilarious new poster that punctuates the excitement behind Lionsgate’s new involvement.

Dig on the fun one sheet inside and watch for the new slasher starring Thor‘s Chris Hemsworth (joking!) in theaters October 28…

Break Out The Champagne: Lionsgate Set To Distribute ‘Cabin In The Woods’ – Release Date!

Update: The Facebook page says we’ll finally see this on OCTOBER 28!

Almost two years after its original release date, Lionsgate has stepped up as the distributor of The Cabin In The Woods after MGM’s financial woes kept it from being released. No official release date has been set, but I’ll take a shot in the dark and guess October for now.

While I’m excited knowing that I’ll get to see the film a lot sooner than I thought, I’m a bit conflicted about how it’s going to be received. It definitely has geek allure – with Joss Whedon gaining more buzz than usual from his Avengers directing gig and Chris Hemsworth blowing up more and more by the day for starring role in Thor – but in a post-Scream 4 world, how well is a R-rated self-aware horror-comedy going to do?
