Though it hurts to say, I will concede that “VENOM” has been better each and every month than any issue of “THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN” the past year. That is nothing against anyone in the Spidey camp, but Remender’s work on the series has just been THAT good. However, now that the two characters are sharing a continuity (evident in the 4 page preview inside) we wonder just how long that will last. Read on for the skinny…

Changing a character’s guise has always been a much debated issue in comic books, especially so when it involves one of the most popular villains of all time. From the very moment Marvel released its plan to overhaul the character of Venom, fans have been extremely skeptical as to his new look. Although the series is merely two issues deep, many qualms have already been settled; Remender and Moore have proven that they can re-create the symbiotic suit, and do it damn well. The team has reinvented the character, giving readers a new look into the entity that is Venom. Flash Thompson, the symbiote’s newest host, struggles to keep his mind and his body from being completely taken over by the black space goo, and from the looks of it, our beloved venom, along with his snake-like tongue and gaping maw, will be returning this issue. While it is yet to be seen whether or not things will be as dire in the world of “AMAZING SPIDERMAN” for the real Peter Parker (Take that ‘ULTIMATES’ universe) as it is currently within the pages of “ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN”, one thing we can tell you is that Rick Remender isn’t going to make it any easier. Today it was announced that the upcoming “SPIDER – ISLAND” story-line would be spilling over into the world of Remender’s “VENOM” monthly, and you can get all the details on the story below.

ILLUSTRATIONS BY: Tom Fowler
“With a whole of city of Spider-Men & Women to fight through, can Flash maintain control of a suit that wants nothing less than to put an end to any and all wall-crawlers? Or will the kill switch finally be thrown on America’s ultimate man in black?
Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott and editor Stephen Wacker went to great lengths to ensure that Venom had a few very important roles in Spider-Island,” said Remender. “I can’t give away who we’ll be seeing Venom go up against, but they are all huge characters and fights that Spider-fans have been itching to see. Tom Fowler’s pages so far are jaw-dropping and there are some legendary bouts >cough

I don’t think anyone could have foreseen this one coming in the beginning.
