Remember That Dead Island Movie? Yeah, Not Happening… Yet

A few days ago there was a rumbling of a Dead Island movie in the works but it would seem that report was a little premature. According to the game’s Facebook page they’re still considering a Dead Island film but they haven’t signed with anyone yet as a “high-quality movie is the #1 thing we’re concerned about for a film adaptation.”

When it comes to bad video game films Hollywood’s batting a thousand so it’s reassuring to see a studio taking a potential film adaptation of their IP seriously. I don’t think I could sit through another Hitman, Bloodrayne, House of the Dead, Max Payne, Doom, Street Fighter, Wing Commander, Alone in the Dark, gasp, Far Cry, Mortal Kombat 2 (the first didn’t entirely suck), Laura Croft or Prince of Persia again. Yeah, I know I skipped Resident Evil and Silent Hill but Milla Jovovich can do no wrong and I actually enjoyed the latter. READ MORE

Dead Island Film Rights Get Bought Up, Do You Want Another Zombie Movie?

It hasn’t been but a few days since the game’s incredibly emotional trailer went viral and Hollywood’s already laying plans for a film adaptation. Could this be the video game movie we’ve all been dreaming for? Looking at Hollywood’s pedigree, I’ll be keeping my hopes low until I know more.

What we know so far is The Sean Daniel Company and Union Entertainment have purchased the film rights to Dead Island. Sean Daniel (The Mummy) will be producing the film alongside Union’s Dmitri Johnson and Richard Liebowitz and apparently, they’ve already begun the search for a writer as well as talks with studios.
