GRAPHIC CONTENT PICK OF THE WEEK: Lonmonster – ‘Green Wake’ #6

By this point it’s become almost habitual to choose Green Wake as the GC Pick Of The Week. From the very first issue, Green Wake had my attention, and now, as lame as it sounds, it has my heart (you can make fun of me in the comments). Green Wake is the kind of mystery tale that leaves you feeling dirty on the inside because of how much pleasure you derive from such a grotesque world. It’s the kind of story you wish you had created. It’s the kind of horror tale that’s more than just blood and guts. Creators Kurtis J. Wiebe and Riley Rossmo fashioned an absorbing, relentless tale of horror and criminal suspense that took comic fans by storm over the summer months, and what better time to welcome the start of the new ongoing than Halloween. The Good Sh*t: Image’s ‘Green Wake’ #5 And ‘Screamland’ #3 – Plus 5 Page Previews

This week we are going to take a good, hard look at two titles that YOU, the reader should be reading. Don’t take this personally, Daddy isn’t yelling, he’s just emotional today and feeling rather chipper. Believe me, no amount of caffeine, nicotine, and or other form of mind altering method will shake this terrible thing from my bones. Someone, anyone, a Doctor for the dear Editor, please. For the love of all things holy man hurry, before it’s too late!

For a long time now we have been telling you that Image’s “GREEN WAKE” is one of the single best (Yes, better than your copy of “FLASHPOINT”, kids. Sorry)monthlies currently running, and by far the best mini-series in the genre all year long. But the sands of time are unforgiving little devils, and this week Riley Rossmo and Kurtis Wiebe will be ending the story with the most grotesque, bloody, and disturbing thing the likes of which you haven’t seen since the 2011 Betty White Calendar. Inside you’ll find a 5 page peek under the curtain and see if you catch anyone missing a top…or a face.

For fans of “GREEN WAKE” who will be undoubtedly spending the next several days picking their minds up off of the floor, the wall, and the ceiling, now would also be a good time to check out another more HIDDEN gem from Image entitled, “SCREAMLAND”. The series might be the literary version of comparing apples and oranges, but with a great mystery, great pacing, and an excellent cast of characters Christopher Sebola and Harold Sipe are able to bring to the table you would be hard pressed to find much better. So just in case you need any more convincing (Trust me: I’m an expert) you can check out a separate 5 page preview of the third ish in the series, which will also be hitting shelves tomorrow. GRAPHIC CONTENT PICK OF THE WEEK: Johnny_Trouble – ‘American Vampire: Survival of The Fittest’ Issue #1

This week is going to be filled with awesome titles gracing the shelves of our local comic shops. That being said, I plan on dropping a lot of money on comics this week. However, I have chosen Scott Snyder’s “AMERICAN VAMPIRE: SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST” Issue #1 for my pick of the week. (This was originally tied with “GREENWAKE” for the staff pick.)

GRAPHIC CONTENT PICK OF THE WEEK: Lonmonster – “Green Wake” Issue #3

Every once in a while a book comes along that you pick up and think, man I wish I’d thought of this story, well my friends, Green Wake (Interview) is one of those. Two up and comers from Image Comics, Kurtis J. Wiebe (“The Intrepids”) and Riley Rossmo (“Proof”), bring you one of the weirdest debut comics of the year. Green Wake is dark, gritty, confusing and comparison can easily be drawn to the surrealist master, David Lynch. As such an odd series, it’s really no wonder it has given rise to some mixed reviews, receiving both praise and criticism from readers (really, reviews are all over the place). In Green Wake, Wiebe and Rossmo bring you into an ethereal world set alongside a suspenseful murder-mystery storyline, leaving you with an uncomfortable feeling in your gut. Whether you’ll love it or hate it, Green Wake is one book that deserves some attention. Read on for the skinny…
