We’ve been waiting a long time for this, since it was announced last year that Nick Spencer and Riley Rossmo were teaming up on a new horror series. Two of the best in their respective fields are teaming up for ‘Bedlam’, a book that screams terror. Finally, some real details about the book are released today by Image Comics. The series is set in a city that has been terrorized by a crazed killer known only as Madder Red. Check out more below. READ MORE
Mysterious hybrid animal zombies, that’s what you can expect from Riley Rossmo and Alex Link’s fuel injected pandemic story, Rebel Blood. With so many zombie stories coming out promising to be “different”, it’s hard to tell which are actually making an effort to stray from the mainstream, and which are just blowing hot air. With “Rebel Blood”, every single page scream with undead novelty. It’s a fast paced, head trip through a world where the zombie plague does more than just turn the dead into blood thirsty killers. We’ve got an exclusive preview of issue #3 below, which hits May 23rd. READ MORE
Fast, bloody, horrifying, insane, chaotic, and confident, Rebel Blood gives new meaning to zombie fiction. Unlike most undead stories that focus on the horror of humanity, in Rossmo and Link’s wooded zombie world, nothing is safe from the plague. Ravenous wolves, cute puppies, and packs of deer infest the forest area, and Chuck Neville is doing all he can to survive. You probably don’t want to read anything about zombies anymore, but “Rebel Blood” is another beast entirely. Coming from Riley Rossmo, it’s no surprise that the book looks and feels as good as it does. Check out the exclusive six-page preview below from Image Comics. READ MORE
Wiebe and Rossmo teamed up to bring us one of the year’s best horror comics with “Green Wake”, and though the series saw an unfortunate early cancellation due to low sales (despite the rave reviews), they are back together this July with Debris. The book sounds nothing like “Green Wake” other than the fact that the dream team is back together, and for that we couldn’t be happier. “Debris” is set in the distant future, a time where the world has wasted away and the spirits of old have come back to ravish the world once and for all. One rough and tough girl quests to save humanity in the midst of the chaos. Yeah, it sounds awesome as sh*t. You can expect some insane creature designs from Rossmo and top notch storytelling from Wiebe as “Debris” hits this summer from Image Comics. Check the preview after the jump. READ MORE
With the insane success of The Walking Dead TV series, and novels like World War Z, zombies have now infiltrating mainstream culture on every possible level. The last thing that the comics’ world needs is another zombie plague book, right? Well, not according to Riley Rossmo. Riley Rossmo (Green Wake) and writer Alex Link have breathed life into the zombie genre once again with their new book Rebel Blood.
Sad as I may be, Green Wake is coming to its final issue next week. This series has been nothing short of phenomenal in every regard since the very first issue, and it’s a shame to see it end. The series landed the number one spot on my Best Comics of 2011 list, and I now feel it belongs among my favorite comics ever. I’ve been ranting and raving about how amazing this book is since last year, so after next week, I promise I’ll stop. But for the love of god(s) and all that is holy, you’ve gotta read this book. Wiebe is a master storyteller, and Rossmo’s art is top notch. check out the monstrous 9-page preview after the jump. Read on for the skinny…
Kurtis Wiebe dropped this bomb on us yesterday, Green Wake is currently being re-released as a serialized web comic, and it’s completely free! You now have absolutely no excuses. The book will be available on Keenspot with daily updates starting at issue #1. You know we love Green Wake here at BD, so find out why. Find the link after the jump.
It’s becoming increasingly hard to talk about Green Wake because of how amazing and dark it is. Sadly, this week brings on the second to last issue of the series, but I have no doubt that Green Wake will continue to be read for years to come. If you’re not reading this series, do so before I explode. Check the sweet preview below full of goodies and creatures crawling your way.

Riley Rossmo is like so hot right now! He’s a busy dude lending his talented art skills to Green Wake, and doing some backups for Monocyte, but he’s about to embark on a new journey into the realm of writing. So what happens when you give someone like Rossmo the pen? How about an extremely visceral and rampant zombie book where nothing is safe from infection. Image Comics was kind enough to deliver us some wicked preview art for the Rebel Blood and we’ll be delivering a new teaser every day for the next five days. You may have seen some of these elsewhere, but we assure you the last one is one you won’t find anywhere else. So make sure you keep checking up on us, who knows what crazy sh*t we’re getting into. This is highly unusual given that it’s only supposed to be my “pick” of the week, but it’s my column so I’ll do as I damn well please! I’m seriously bursting at the seams with excitement for both of these titles (which you probably know by now). To be frank, the new Daredevil is without a doubt one of the best ongoing books right now at Marvel. Green Wake on the other hand, is one of the best horror titles anywhere. While these two books may be completely distinct in almost every possible way, they are both truly commendable comics that deserve some attention. Read on for the skinny…
By this point it’s become almost habitual to choose Green Wake as the GC Pick Of The Week. From the very first issue, Green Wake had my attention, and now, as lame as it sounds, it has my heart (you can make fun of me in the comments). Green Wake is the kind of mystery tale that leaves you feeling dirty on the inside because of how much pleasure you derive from such a grotesque world. It’s the kind of story you wish you had created. It’s the kind of horror tale that’s more than just blood and guts. Creators Kurtis J. Wiebe and Riley Rossmo fashioned an absorbing, relentless tale of horror and criminal suspense that took comic fans by storm over the summer months, and what better time to welcome the start of the new ongoing than Halloween. This week we are going to take a good, hard look at two titles that YOU, the reader should be reading. Don’t take this personally, Daddy isn’t yelling, he’s just emotional today and feeling rather chipper. Believe me, no amount of caffeine, nicotine, and or other form of mind altering method will shake this terrible thing from my bones. Someone, anyone, a Doctor for the dear Editor, please. For the love of all things holy man hurry, before it’s too late!
For a long time now we have been telling you that Image’s “GREEN WAKE” is one of the single best (Yes, better than your copy of “FLASHPOINT”, kids. Sorry)monthlies currently running, and by far the best mini-series in the genre all year long. But the sands of time are unforgiving little devils, and this week Riley Rossmo and Kurtis Wiebe will be ending the story with the most grotesque, bloody, and disturbing thing the likes of which you haven’t seen since the 2011 Betty White Calendar. Inside you’ll find a 5 page peek under the curtain and see if you catch anyone missing a top…or a face.
For fans of “GREEN WAKE” who will be undoubtedly spending the next several days picking their minds up off of the floor, the wall, and the ceiling, now would also be a good time to check out another more HIDDEN gem from Image entitled, “SCREAMLAND”. The series might be the literary version of comparing apples and oranges, but with a great mystery, great pacing, and an excellent cast of characters Christopher Sebola and Harold Sipe are able to bring to the table you would be hard pressed to find much better. So just in case you need any more convincing (Trust me: I’m an expert) you can check out a separate 5 page preview of the third ish in the series, which will also be hitting shelves tomorrow. At the end of the year when the snow is falling, another child is heartbroken because they caught Mom and Dad putting the presents beneath the tree, and the nature is as dead outside as i am inside, I will be compiling my “Top 10 Comics Of 2011″. Now while even I cannot predict the outcome of such a Major Award, I CAN tell you that Kurtis Wiebe’s “GREEN WAKE” will definitely be in the running for the top spot. Inside you can check out a 6 page preview of the series’ third issue and get all the details before it hits shelves tomorrow. Read on for the skinny…
This week is going to be filled with awesome titles gracing the shelves of our local comic shops. That being said, I plan on dropping a lot of money on comics this week. However, I have chosen Scott Snyder’s “AMERICAN VAMPIRE: SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST” Issue #1 for my pick of the week. (This was originally tied with “GREENWAKE” for the staff pick.)
Every once in a while a book comes along that you pick up and think, man I wish I’d thought of this story, well my friends, Green Wake (Interview) is one of those. Two up and comers from Image Comics, Kurtis J. Wiebe (“The Intrepids”) and Riley Rossmo (“Proof”), bring you one of the weirdest debut comics of the year. Green Wake is dark, gritty, confusing and comparison can easily be drawn to the surrealist master, David Lynch. As such an odd series, it’s really no wonder it has given rise to some mixed reviews, receiving both praise and criticism from readers (really, reviews are all over the place). In Green Wake, Wiebe and Rossmo bring you into an ethereal world set alongside a suspenseful murder-mystery storyline, leaving you with an uncomfortable feeling in your gut. Whether you’ll love it or hate it, Green Wake is one book that deserves some attention. Read on for the skinny…
Once in a while I wake up with a hangover wondering, “Where the hell am I?” Luckily that hasn’t happened to me in a while, and I hope the answer will never be Green Wake. Kurtis Wiebe and Riley Rossmo have brought us “GREEN WAKE”, published by Image Comics, the tale of a mysterious town whose residents have started turning up dead. It is Morely Mack’s mission to figure out who is behind the murders and he isn’t the only one with questions, I have some too. So keep reading for some clues behind this unusual story of a man, a murderer, and a hell of a lot of frogs.
