Hear Silent Hill Composer Akira Yamaoka’s Eternal Slumber Remix Of Dir En Grey’s “Rinkaku”

Tomorrow sees the release of “Rinkaku”, the new single from Japanese prog extreme metal band Dir En Grey. While we already posted about the new song and the really disturbing video, what we haven’t yet written about is the “Eternal Slumber Remix” done by Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka. Below you can hear his version of the song, which bears all the earmarks of what you could possibly want from Yamaoka. It’s eerie, atmospheric, haunting, and emotionally charged, taking the original and gives it a completely new sound. In short, it’s fantastic and gives me new appreciation for Yamaoka and his skills.

If you’re willing to pay a tad extra for shipping fees, you can pre-order the deluxe edition here. READ MORE

Dir En Grey Stream New Single “Rinkaku” In Disturbing Music Video

Japanese prog metal band Dir En Grey has released an incredibly odd yet visually arresting video for their new single “Rinkaku”. The video is made up entirely of black and white drawings that are placed close enough to create a semblance of movement. However, it’s still very disjointed. Oh, and did I mention that it’s also incredibly twisted? Five faces melt out of paintings and flood a room with their flesh. A bird watches in terror as its body lays there in a state of decomposition. And more. Basically, it’s a great way to start off your Monday if you want to feel a bit odd and out of place.

As for the song, it’s immediately identifiable as Dir En Grey. Something about their guitar tone and atmosphere are just so unique. And if that wasn’t enough, Kyo’s voice cinches the deal. Check it out below. READ MORE
