Dream Theater Announce Details For New Studio Album

Prog metal legends Dream Theater have announced that they will be releasing their new studio album, Dream Theater, on September 24th. This will mark the band’s 12th studio album and it is the follow up to 2011′s A Dramatic Turn Of Events. It will be the first album to see new drummer Mike Mangini involved from the beginning of the creative process.

Guitarist John Petrucci states, “I see every new album as an opportunity to start over. To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground. This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We’ve fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic. We’re incredibly excited about ‘DREAM THEATER’ and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.

The album will be available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special edition CDs, 180 Gram Vinyl Double LP, and a Limited Edition Box Set. Pre-orders will begin in July via the Roadrunner Records webstore. A world tour is also in the works and will be announced soon. READ MORE

[Album Review] Killswitch Engage ‘Disarm The Descent’

When it was announced that Killswitch Engage was parting ways with vocalist Howard Jones, there was a great sense of loss amongst the fans. However, there was also a feeling of anticipation and hope as many people were holding their breath and secretly wishing that original vocalist Jesse Leach would return. When those prayers were answered the anticipation for a new KsE album skyrocketed.

Enter Disarm The Descent, the first album with Jesse Leach since 2002’s seminal Alive Or Just Breathing. It’s been 11 years, so naturally some questions arise. Does Leach still have what it takes for KsE? Was his return the best choice? Is this even an album worth venturing into? Head on below for my thoughts! READ MORE

Norwegian rock band Kvelertak has just released a music video for “Månelyst”, which comes from the band’s upcoming sophomore album Meir (out March 26th via Roadrunner Records). Directed by Fredrik Hana, the video “captures the director’s adoration for horror films.” The video features one horror trope after another and is definitely a labor of horror love.

Hana states, “I wanted to make a video that didn’t have any repetitious elements. I wanted to get as far away as possible from the kind of videos that has two, maybe three unique elements on constant circulation.

“Also, I totally dig horror films, always have, so I wanted to make something that showed my unconditional love for the genre. Working with this particular band just makes me want to go all the way.

Megadeth Will Bring You ‘Super Collider’ In June

Metal legends Megadeth have unveiled Super Collider as the title of their 14th studio album. They have also announced that the album will be released in June and will be distributed by Universal Records. This comes after Megadeth’s split with Roadrunner Records, which was amicable.

Mustaine states, “It was a real thrill for us to learn there was an opportunity to join Universal. It seems like every time you see a great band or music video, it comes from a Universal label … Being with Universal is by far the most exciting and prestigious home for Megadeth ever! We are electrified with what the future holds and the possibilities such a powerhouse like Universal will bring for us all.

We have worked with some great people over the years, and it is amazing to see so many of them on the Universal team for our new record, Super Collider. If Megadeth being here isn’t satiating enough, having Tradecraft as my own label is going to be really amazing for metal bands around the world.

Dragonforce Have Officially Gone Commercial

Well, they’re in a TV commercial, that is. Yup, UK power metal group Dragonforce is now hitting the small screen courtesy of Capitol One mobile banking in a new marketing campaign.

In the commercial, which you can watch below, guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman are engaged in a vicious guitar solo battle (which is shot almost exactly like the battle in “Through The Fire And The Flames”). While one guitarist is rocking out, the other whips out his cellphone and checks his banking through the mobile banking app. Oh, and they also happen to be standing on an asteroid as it floats through space next to a blazing star. Is it strange that my only thought was, “I highly doubt the Wi-Fi signal is strong enough for them to access their data plan.”?

Dragonforce’s latest album is The Power Within, which came out April 15th, 2012. READ MORE
