In what might be the most star-studded cover album ever, Metallica, Anthrax, Halestorm, Corey Taylor, and more will be featured on This Is Your Life, a tribute album to Dio/Black Sabbath/Rainbow singer Ronnie James Dio. The album will feature 13 tracks as well as Dio’s original “This Is Your Life”. The vast majority of the songs have never before been released, so this will be a really exciting album for fans of Dio and his work!
Ronnie James Dio passed away in 2010 after losing his battle with stomach cancer. While he was incredibly short the man had a voice that was unbelievably powerful and beyond iconic. He was proof to many that metal and amazing vocals were not mutually exclusive. His loss was a damn shame and he is still missed sorely.
This Is Your Life will be released April 1st via Rhino. Head below for the track list. READ MORE
Like ‘em or not, Black Veil Brides are getting bigger and bigger. Personally, I’m not a fan but I can see how they fit into the Hot Topic scene (which is f*cking enormous). Honestly, they’re not too shabby when it comes to hard rock. Nothing to write home about but nothing that makes me want to shoot a baby panda in the face. However, what is the need for their look? Is all that make-up and leather really necessary? It’s like Marilyn Manson and Rob Halford popped out some children and BVB was born.
Anyways, after the jump you can watch their latest video for The Legacy, which comes off their upcoming album Set The World On Fire, out June 14th. My biggest issue with this song is that singer Andy Biersack’s vocals stand out in the mix. They actually remind me of Shakira‘s Hips Don’t Lie, where it sounded like she was ten feet in front of the music. Also, Andy’s vocals seem really dry and plain. I’m not saying that they should be saturated in effects, but a little reverb and perhaps a touch of delay wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Say whatever you will about Ozzy Osbourne, but the man is the Prince of Darkness and he has been a part of creating some of the greatest metal the world has ever heard. Sure, at this point in his career, he’s doing Best Buy ads with Justin Bieber, but think of his glory days, such as when Diary of a Madman or Blizzard of Ozz came out. Well, you can relive those days on May 31st in much better audio quality! Both of those albums are going to be reissued with special editions made available. You can even order a super special edition, which comes with a full size replica of Ozzy’s cross here. While you wait, you can check out a really cool trailer after the jump, which features statements from Lemmy (Motorhead), Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society), and more. LA’s extreme metal band Dia De Los Muertos has announced the title of their upcoming full-length debut as ‘Satanico Dramatico’, which is set for a Feb. 23rd worldwide digital release. This release is the follow up to their EP, ‘Day of the Dead’, which was mixed by Roy Z. (Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Judas Priest).
New Orleans, Louisiana’s sons of American no-frills black metal meets death and roll, GOATWHORE, are confirmed to play the second stage on the infamous OZZFest summer tour alongside Black Label Society, Drowning Pool, Kingdom of Sorrow, Skeletonwitch, Saviours, and Kataklysm. OZZFest 2010 will kick off August 14 in San Bernardino, CA (the birthplace of the first OZZFest in 1996) and then make stops in Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT, Camden, NJ, Pittsburgh, PA and Boston, MA.
The main stage will feature full sets from Ozzy, Mötley Crüe and Rob Halford (who last appeared on OZZFest in 2004 with Judas Priest), performing songs from his solo career along with material from Judas Priest and Fight. DevilDriver and Nonpoint will round out the main stage line-up.
Rob Halford is ready for the holidays. The Judas Priest frontman just dropped what might be the most “metal” Christmas album ever— Winter Songs. It’s a collection of raw and ripping rock n’ roll that sizzles with the Christmas spirit. So how is Mr. Halford preparing for Santa to slide down the chimney? By talking to us about his favorite horror movies, of course! We asked Rob what his favorite horror flicks were, and he was a stoked to answer.
