Rob Zombie Had A “Miserable Experience” Making The ‘Halloween’ Films, Was Going To Make ‘The Blob’ Serious

With The Lords of Salem still fresh in theaters, Rob Zombie has been doing quite a bit of press for the film. And he’s a great interview. However you feel about his work, he doesn’t seem to bullsh*t quite as much as a lot of other celebrity horror directors and I found him impressively candid in my interview with him a few weeks back.

He recently spoke to The Playlist and elaborated on his experiences with the Halloween films. “I really like those films. I didn’t have a good time making them. It was actually a kind of miserable experience. Anytime they vary from the format is when I really like them.

And varying from the format is what he wanted to do with his remake of The Blob, though the fact that it was another remake at all seems to be what turned him off to the project. Head inside for his take on that! READ MORE

5 Great Lines From ‘House Of 1,000 Corpses’!!!

While I may not be the biggest fan of most of Rob Zombie‘s movies, I can’t deny that there are some fantastic, quote worthy lines throughout his films. They’re sharp, often hilarious, and have no subtlety whatsoever.

With The Lords Of Salem expanding into additional theaters this weekend, I thought I’d take a look back at Zombie’s first film, House Of 1,000 Corpses, which shocked and divided audiences upon its release. But whether or not you liked the film you have to admit that there were some truly entertaining moments. So head on down to see which five lines I loved the most from HO1K!

WARNING: I shouldn’t have to say this but there is some seriously strong language below. Have fun! READ MORE

[BD Review] Brad Finds ‘Lords Of Salem’ To Be A Chore, Mike Loves The Style

Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem is finally out (in limited theaters in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, DC, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Detroit) and it’s sort of a polarizing movie. Some people love it, others hate it. I kinda liked it for the strong visuals, but felt that the story was pretty spotty. But Brad and Mike have actual reviews posted – so read those!

Per Brad, “It would be easy to give Lords a pass. It has genuinely creepy imagery, cool scares, super crazy sound design, and even more mind blowing set designs. But there will be no pass, mainly because of the awkwardly unfulfilling ending and the fact that much of the “cool” doesn’t interact with the characters or plot.

Per Mike, “For 100 minutes, I was taken away to another place and the usual insistence in basic storytelling and character eluded me. In this case, the style is the substance.

Who will YOU agree with? Here’s Brad’s review out of TIFF, as well as Mike’s more positive take. As always, write in with YOUR review here!

The Lords of Salem

From the singular mind of horror maestro Rob Zombie comes a chilling plunge into a nightmare world where evil runs in the blood. The Lords of Salem tells the tale of Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie), a radio station DJ living in Salem, Massachusetts, who receives a strange wooden box containing a record, a “gift from the Lords.” Heidi listens, and the bizarre sounds within the grooves immediately trigger flashbacks of the town’s violent past. Is Heidi going mad, or are the “Lords of Salem” returning for revenge on modern-day Salem?

7 Questions With Rob Zombie On ‘The Lords Of Salem’!

The Lords of Salem opens in limited theaters (New York, Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, DC, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Detroit) tomorrow, April 19 from Anchor Bay Films. While not all of the story worked for me, I definitely appreciated the mood, tone and striking visuals in the film. I sat down with writer/director Rob Zombie a few weeks back and we discussed his approach to crafting such a cinematic experience, as well as what corners he needed to cut in order to get his tale to the screen.

LA Readers! Here Are Your ‘Lords Of Salem’ Special Screenings!

I’d recommend seeing Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem in a theater. The parts of the film that work best for me are filled with striking imagery and I myself am considering seeing it again in order to get the big screen experience (I couldn’t make a screening and had to watch a screener). And if you live in Los Angeles you have a few options to choose from if you want to see it early or want a Rob Zombie Q&A (or both).

Rob Zombie Says ‘Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor’ Might Be A Movie

In an interview with shock rocker Rob Zombie, ARTISTdirect has found out that the new album Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor might one day be turned into a movie. The album will be released April 23rd.

Zombie states, “Well, I think it could. I made it with that in mind. At least in my mind — no one else knows this — I wanted to have a storyline that runs through the record so if someday I wanted to make it into a movie musical like The Who’s “Tommy” or “Quadrophenia”, there was a structure to follow. I’m not really talking about what it is because I think it’s sort of relevant at this point. Maybe that’s why that sense comes through.

If this does happen, I’m very confident in saying that Sheri Moon Zombie will have a leading role and Rob Zombie will find a slew of b-horror actors that we haven’t seen since some obscure film in the 70′s or 80′s so that he appears hip and cool. READ MORE

The 5 Rob Zombie Films From Worst To Best!!!

Rob Zombie is most certainly a talented visualist, but he’s an inconsistent storyteller. That being said, I’ve found something to appreciate (and dislike) in almost all of his films and I figured now would be as good a time as any to take a look at his filmography. If anything, he does deserve some credit for having his own vision.

His upcoming The Lords of Salem hits limited theaters (New York, Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, DC, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Detroit) on April 19th from Anchor Bay Films, and I also thought it would be interesting to discuss my thoughts on the film within the larger context of his overall filmography.

Rob Zombie Cuts Off Dreads For Charity

Update: April Fool’s!

In what might be the most shocking and surprising thing I’ve heard today, rocker/director Rob Zombie has cut off his infamous dreadlocks for charity purposes. Zombie cut off his dreads for Scary Care Funtime, an organization that promotes the benefits of horror. The dreads were to be used to create a wig that would have then been auctioned off with all proceeds benefiting the organization.

Scary Care Funtime director Johan P. Baumgardner states, “We are thrilled that Mr. Zombie has taken such an interest in our foundation!

Zombie was quoted as saying, “Finally! Those fucking dreads were itching like crazy! That Scary Carey bullshit? They can do whatever they want with them.

You can see a picture of Zombie sans dreadlocks below. READ MORE
