Review: ‘The Walking Dead’ # 110

Robert Kirkman’s zombie epic returns this month with an issue deep set in character development. With a definite conflict on the horizon, Kirkman has made a fantastic decision in slowing down the action this month. He takes his time to make us care about the people so that it hits even harder when we inevitably lose somewhere down the line. This character driven issue is easily the best in months. READ MORE

[TV] Robert Kirkman To Bring His Upcoming Exorcism Comic To The Tube

Robert Kirkman (“The Walking Dead”), is teaming with executive producer David Alpert, Fox International Channels and his Image Comics imprint Circle of Confusion to bring a new drama to TV screens sometime soon. Per THR, “the potential series is based on Kirkman’s upcoming comic series set in the world of exorcism.

The currently untitled show, “centers on Kyle Barnes, who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now an adult, he embarks on a spiritual journey to find answers but what he uncovers could mean the end of life on Earth as we know it.

Kirkman said in a statement, ““Sharon Tal Yguado and the entire team at Fox International Channels have been instrumental in making The Walking Dead the worldwide success that it has become. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to continue working with this forward-thinking and extremely talented group.

I’m not sure about you, but aren’t exorcism movies enough of a slow burn? I sure hope they don’t dial back the pace even more to make it fit for TV.

[TV] Season 4 Of “The Walking Dead” To Feature Less Running And “More Character”, Also Rick Won’t Always Be Crazy

Season 4 of AMC’s The Walking Dead commences production in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, May 6th. The current Season 3 is a high water mark for the historically spotty show in terms of both ratings and quality, so naturally more than a few folks are curious about the recent decision to replace the responsible showrunner, Glen Mazzara, with Scott M. Gimple (who may be even better – who knows).

Paleyfest, an annual event that offers some pretty great panels and roundtables with cast and creatives from various TV shows, held its “Walking Dead” event this past Friday and, per EW, there were some pretty interesting revelations about Season 4.

Head below to check it out! One thing to be thankful for, Rick will stop hallucinating at some point. READ MORE

[TV] AMC Outdoes Itself With Blu-ray Set For “The Walking Dead” Season Three

While you’re tuned into AMC later this week watching the back half of The Walking Dead season three (premiering Sunday, February 10 at 9pm ET), you can start salivating over this DVD/Blu-ray box set many of you will eventually buy.

There’s a rundown of the box over at MTV and the whole thing seems pretty cool and very unique. It’s based on The Governor’s custom TV set-up and apparently even requires water. The whole thing was created in conjunction with Robert Kirkman, Todd McFarlane and AMC and features five decapitated zombie heads floating in water.

Kirkman says, “McFarlane has a very intimate relationship with AMC, so I was approving concepts on this Blu-Ray case before Season Three even aired. So while we were building things on set, Todd and the team at McFarlane Toys were coming in and scanning actors and scanning props. So having them come in and do the fish tank with the severed heads while we were still building it for the show is a pretty cool thing, and I think makes these products much more accurate and cooler for the fans.

There’s no release date for the set as of yet, but you can bet we’ll keep you posted. Head inside to check out some images! READ MORE

The Past, Present, and Future of Image Comics

In a year that included DC’s New 52, “Before Watchmen”, and Marvel’s “Avengers vs. X-Men”, 2012 represented more than just big business in mainstream comics. This year, Image Comics celebrated its milestone 20th anniversary. Against heavy competition from the Big Two, Image Comics, the indie publisher that could, stood its own ground in the industry with bestselling series like “Saga”, “The Walking Dead”, and “Chew”. While not all books thrived at Image, the company that was founded on creator-owned rights managed to maintain a strong voice against the traditional spandex adventures of leading publishers. [TV] Robert Kirkman Tells Us Why We Never See The Zombies Take Over In “The Walking Dead”

It’s interesting that this comes up today because I was just writing an article (out tomorrow) that sort of touches on this. While we wait for Season 3 of AMC’s The Walking Dead to return in 2013, comic creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman is talking about something we’ll never see on the show, and that’s the beginning of the outbreak. That whole “zombies taking over the world” part that Rick missed when he was in a coma.

Kirkman told TV Guide, “I don’t find that to be interesting at all. In zombie fiction, you see the outbreak, you see the first days and the craziness in almost every other story told in this realm. I’m very proud of the fact that, for the most part, The Walking Dead has skipped over that part.

What’s a close approximation of what such a thing may have looked like in the “Walking Dead” universe? ““Go watch Zach Snyder’s ‘Dawn of the Dead’ movie to see the early days of this, or ‘Shaun of the Dead’ does it really well.” Given the grim tone of the show, I’m guessing it’s closer to the former film.

I didn’t miss seeing this. Are you happy that they chose to skip this step?

[TV] Next On “The Walking Dead”, Another Look At Next Week’s “Say The Word”

I’m hearing from lots of friends that The Walking Dead is officially on the rebound after last year’s inertia-fest. I haven’t seen last night’s episode, but I know what happened and all I have to say is – “good choice.”

Next Sunday, November 11 AMC airs episode 03.05 “Say the Word”. In that episode Rick struggles after another loss and Michonne is suspicious of the Governor. And we’ve got another look at that episode – one that features some od that aforementioned Michonne suspicion.

In the highly anticipated new season, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his fellow survivors continue to seek refuge in a desolate and post-apocalyptic world and soon discover that there are greater forces to fear than just the walking dead. The struggle to survive has never been so perilous. Robert Kirkman And Tony Moore Reach Settlement On ‘Walking Dead’ Lawsuit

Co-creators Robert Kirkman, and Tony Moore have been in a tough legal battle over the rights to The Walking Dead for the better part of 2012, and The Hollywood Reporter reports that the parties have reached an agreement. Moore sued Kirkman in February, claiming that he was deceived by Kirkman, “Kirkman is a proud liar and fraudster who freely admits that he has no qualm about misrepresenting material facts in order to consummate business transactions.” Moore filed the lawsuit wanting half the proceeds from the franchise (including the TV series).

The Hollywood Reporter was sent the following statement, which seems a bit more amicable: “Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore are pleased to jointly announce that they have reached an amicable agreement in their respective lawsuits and all parties have settled the entire matter to everyone’s mutual satisfaction. Neither side will be discussing any details but will instead happily and productively spend their time focused on their own work and move on in their lives.” READ MORE
