TOLDJU!!! Lionsgate Pressing On With ‘Twilight’

Remember this? When we said “Twilight will return. In fact, they’re already discussing it internally. It will happen. It is still undecided exactly what the future of the franchise will be, though. It could be a direct remake, considering the initial saga is so poorly made, but then again it could also be a spinoff or maybe even a one-off sequel. It could be anything to keep the green bills piling high. But expect a remake. Yes, quickly.

This report was denied again and again but, in all honesty, it doesn’t make financial sense for it not to be true. Now Moviehole has additional details, “When I was informed an hour or so back that “They’re already onto the [Breaking Dawn] follow-up”, I wasn’t surprised, but naturally intrigued. Details are skim but apparently Bloody Disgusting’s earlier sources that some sort of ‘reboot’ of the series was in development, were on the money.

Exactly what kind of direction will the franchise move in? Head inside for a taste of the ideas they’re kicking around. READ MORE

Who Will Play Kanada and Tetsuo in ‘Akira’?

Deadline is reporting that the script for the Warner Bros/Legendary Pictures live action adaptation of anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo’s 6-volume graphic novel Akira has been sent to an impressive short list of actors.

The picture is finally taking shape for an August start, following the delivery of a rewrite by Steve Kloves that has director Albert Hughes and the studio brass excited.

The story takes place in the rebuilt New Manhattan where a leader of a biker gang saves his friend from a medical experiment.

There are two major roles, with the site reporting that for “Tetsuo,” Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy have been given the new script. For the role of “Kaneda,” the script has been given to Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix.

The intention has been to make 2 films, each covering 3 books in the series. Akira was first adapted for the screen in 1988.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’

Eclipse will be considered by many people to be the best of the Twilight series so far, and it’s easy to see why. It still features the same uneven performances and groan-worthy screenwriting that made the other entries unintentionally humorous, but this time around, the film seems to be at peace with what it is: a soap-opera. No longer is the franchise tussling with its identity; it’s comprised of minimal action, minimal plot, and people talking to each other about the same things over and over again, while being especially dramatic about EVERYTHING. And for what it is, I’d be lying if I said it was the worst thing ever, but it’s still not good.

‘Breaking Dawn’ Adds A Few More To Its Already Legion Cast

A whole slew of new (and mostly unfamiliar, at least to me) faces were added to the giant list that is the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn cast today. New members of the Bill Condon helmed sequels roster include Olga Fonda (Love Hurts), Janelle Froehlich (Hacienda Heights), Masami Kosaka (The Runaways), Sebastiao Lemos (Força-Tarefa), Amadou Ly (THE TESTED), Ty Olsson (2012), Wendell Pierce (Ray), and Carolina Virguez (Matalobos). No word on their roles, or which film they’re cast in (could be both!),and I can’t even begin to speculate because I never made it past page one of the first novel. Breaking Dawn: Part I hits theatres on November 18, 2011, while Breaking Dawn: Part 2 arrives almost a year later on November 16, 2012. Sparkle, sparkle, everyone.
