Charlie Sheen Cast As The U.S. President In ‘Machete Kills’!!!

Wow. Half of me feels like this is a crass, TMZ style approach to casting – and the other half of me can’t wait to see this movie (even though I didn’t like the first one). Charlie Sheen (Wall Street, Platoon “Two And A Half Men”) has been cast as the U.S. President in Machete Kills, the sequel to Robert Rodriguez’ Machete. Earlier today he admitted that his meltdown last year was brought on by a psychotic break, so you have to wonder if him diving into this role along with his new series “Anger Management” is a good idea for him personally. Either way, between him and Mel Gibson Machete Kills is certainly making some brave casting choices.

Rodriguez took to his Twitter account just moments ago saying, “I just cast Charlie Sheen in ‪#machetekills‬ as the President of the United States! Who better? More soon…

He will star alongsode Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Edward James Olmos, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara and Zoe Saldana in the flick spawned from a faix trailer included in Tarantino and Rodriguez’ 2007 Grindhouse.

The sequel finds the titular ex-federale (Trejo) recruited by the U.S. government to stop a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, who happens to be Mexico’s leading cartel dealer. Mel Gibson is set to co-star as Luther Voz, a cunning arms dealer and death merchant who aims to spread war across the planet by launching a nuclear missile.

Word has it that Jessica Alba (Idle Hands, Fantastic Four; pictured inside), and Michelle Rodriguez (The Fast And The Furious, Resident Evil: Retribution; pictured inside) are in talks to appear in the sequel. Machete Kills (as teased in the closing credits of the first Machete), the film is the second in a planned trilogy. Danny Trejo returns as the title character. Seven Years Later, Rodriguez Finally Returns To ‘Sin City’?

Seven Years Later, Rodriguez Finally Returns To Sin City?

Those of you clamoring for a sequel to Sin City just may finally get it.

Robert Rodriguez took to the ACL Live stage at the Moody Theater at the SXSW Film Festival to announce several new Quickdraw Productions, one of which is the sequel to the 2005 (has it really been 7 years already?!) adaptation of Frank Miller’s popular comic series.

Alongside Machete 2, which begins shooting in April, Rodriguez states that Sin City 2, after several fits and starts, is likely to begin production over the summer. THR states that he’s thus far mum on casting, though he was willing to indicate that discussions with potential stars of both projects will be of the same caliber and eclecticism as the first films, which featured Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Josh Hartnett, Don Johnson and Steven Seagal. Co-directed by Miller and long-time collaborator Quentin Tarantino, the film was set in Sin City, the film interconnects storylines that involve the unsavory inhabitants of the town.

Danny Trejo returns for Machete Kills, the sequel to the film adaptation of Rodriguez’s faux trailer from Grindhouse in which Trejo starred as Machete, a Mexican, an ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, and is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator. Robert Rodriguez Forgot All About ‘Predators’ Already

Robert Rodriguez Forgot All About Predators Already

In talking with Playlist, writer director Robert Rodriguez chatted up all of his upcoming projects, while also making the realization that he originally wanted to produce a sequel to Predators, the quasi-reboot of the classic 1987 sci-fi horror Predator.

I haven’t talked to them [20th Century Fox] in a while. I know they liked the idea of doing another one,” Rodriguez explained. “I should probably call and check in. I’ve just been busy doing these other things.

For a guy who constantly pushed how passionate he was about the original, to completely “forget” about it makes me question is credibility. Nimrod Antal directed the R-rated reboot/sequel that referenced characters from the original, while following a new group of toughies to battle the race of alien Predator. READ MORE

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Machete’

When Grindhouse first entranced us in 2007, the faux trailers seemed to be the real talk of the exploitation opus, especially since almost everyone immediately expressed interest in making a feature-length version of their short. The initial skepticism surrounding the idea was entirely sound: these trailers were nothing more than a bunch of money shots strung together. In order to make them into a theatrical film, they would have to construct an actual narrative around the most interest arousing scene, have an actual plot, and be open to possible drastic changes, considering the format of each medium. For me personally, although I do like Rob Zombie’s Werewolf Women of the S.S. the least out of the batch, I always felt Robert Rodriguez’s Machete played it a little too safe when compared to the gonzo antics of Euro-horror, vaginal stabbings, and Nicolas Cage as Fu Manchu. However, after seeing Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis’ big screen tale of immigration, babes, and blood, I now know why Rodriguez was so excited about the character and his story of revenge and liberation: it’s plain ol’ FUN.

Jessica Alba’s Recent ‘Sin City’ Sequel Talks

Just today I saw a guy at the gym rocking a Little Fockers shirt. He was so proud of it, puffing out his chest, and dusting off the gym snot every few seconds. Joining the mayhem this time around is Jessica Alba, who is making press rounds to talk about the third film, guaranteed to make me gag on my egg nog. Still, a small piece of news came out of it, and I’m thankful for that (man, it’s been so slow!). Alba reignites the Sin City sequel fumes: “We [Robert Rodriguez and Alba] were just talking about that actually in Austin, so we’ll see,” Alba told IndieWire. “We kind of talk about `Sin City’ every now and again, it comes up. We both love doing it, and we’d like to do it again it’s just kind of, you know, a matter of time I think.” Dimension Films has been on a roll as of late, maybe it’s time to revisit the black and white land of Frank Miller?

Available as a 2-Disc Blu-ray with Digital Copy or a 1-Disc DVD, no specs have been released as of yet, other than the promise of “exclusive deleted scenes that reveal never-before-seen characters, twisting plot lines, and more bloody good action!” The cover art below is different front the previously released one, though this could just be the slipcase. Blu-ray Review: ‘Predators’

Making a sequel to a highly successful film – especially decades after the original – is among the hardest things a director and creative crew can be tasked with. Not only does the follow-up have to capture the tone and attitude of its predecessor, but it also has to successfully introduce a slew of new ideas that expands the mythology of the series without creating anything that contradicts what came before it (Highlander 2, I’m looking at you). The most noticeable exception to this rule is James Cameron, who has successfully taken horror films like Alien and The Terminator – I know some people will disagree, but I always considered the Arnie classic to be a slasher/thriller – and successfully turned their sequels into epic sci-fi/action hybrids. Predators attempts the same formula of changing genres, and it does indeed introduce new mythology and ideas, but it oversaturates itself with them, and because of that and the various tweaks made to Robert Rodriguez’s original spec script over the years, the sum is not as great as its parts.

The feature version of the trailer finds Machete (Trejo) a renegade former Mexican Federale, roaming the streets of Texas after a shakedown from drug lord Torrez (Seagal). Reluctantly, Machete takes an offer from spin doctor Benz (Fahey) to assassinate McLaughlin (De Niro) a corrupt Senator. Double crossed and on the run Machete braves the odds with the help of Luz (Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (Marin) his “holy” brother, and April (Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns.
