Rosemary’s Baby is a beautiful masterpiece. Based on the novel by Ira Levin, Roman Polanski’s 1968 film follows the story of Rosemary Woodhouse, a young pregnant woman. From conception to birth, Rosemary’s world is overshadowed with the suspicion that her pregnancy may be the result of a pact her husband has made with their eccentric neighbors to use the child for human sacrifice in an occult ritual.

You know, just the normal everyday fears any woman has during her first pregnancy.

If there’s one company you want in charge of the reissue of a classic film like Rosemary’s Baby, it’s Criterion. Their transfers are stunning and their attention to detail regarding supplemental features is rarely matched. So it’s great news for Polanksi and horror films alike that they’re bringing that film to DVD and Blu-ray on October 30th – just in time for Halloween.

In the film, “A young couple move into a new apartment, only to be surrounded by peculiar neighbors and occurrences. When the wife becomes mysteriously pregnant, paranoia over the safety of her unborn child begins controlling her life.”

Rosemary and her new husband, Guy, move into a new apartment in New York, befriending an elderly couple who live near by. But when another girl in the block commits suicide, Rosemary starts getting more attention than she desires, from all the wrong people. And now with her (late) friend’s warnings about witches in mind, she has a new problem – the protection of her forthcoming child. But it may not be the child that needs protection.

A Belgian girl, Carol, works as a manicurist at a London beauty salon. While having lunch, a good looking young man, Colin, spots her and makes a date for another evening. She shares a flat with her sister Helen. Her sister’s married lover, Michael, brings out her dislike of men which she cannot explain to Colin. Michael takes Helen abroad for a holiday. Left alone in their flat, Carol’s moments of catalepsy and hallucination increase and deepen into madness.
