Poor ‘Pacific Rim’ Crew Forced To Clean Up After Kaiju Attack

#Kaiju Blue clean-up detail: an endless, thankless task,” Warner Bros. teases in the latest pic from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Kaiju are the monsters in the film, which are put to bay by giant robotos built by humans played by Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Robert Kazinsky, Ron Perlman, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke.

In theaters July 12, “When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.READ MORE

New ‘Pacific Rim’ Image Doesn’t Tread Lightly!

Warner Bros. has released a new image from from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, and it’s another in a long line of signifiers that suggest the size of the Kaiju. I mean, yeah, big foot print. While I love the trailers for this movie and I’m sure it will be good and all that, I’m also growing a little bit worried that it’s relying on sheer enormity to keep us entertained. I understand that it’s a robots vs. monsters movie in many ways, but the best of these films have human characters that really pop. Hopefully Pacific Rim is has charm to spare beyond the traditional archetypes.

Concept Art Sneaks Peaks Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’

Magazine Total Film has shred a pair of concept art from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, in theaters July 12 from Warner Bros. Pictures.

The first puts the overwhelming scale of the Jaegers into perspective, as a Russian collosus stands guard, dominating the skyline. The second features a freaky Skull Temple that’s fused with its derelict urban surroundings, says the site. You can see those pieces by Doug Williams below.

Finally Some Ass-Kicking Imagery From Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’!

USA Today has preemed a handful of sweet new images from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, his giant monsters vs. robots movie in theaters July 12 from Warner Bros.

Del Toro is halfway through finishing the special effects but Pacific Rim is already “the only movie I’ve done where I don’t want it to end, frankly,” says the filmmaker (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth), who co-wrote the screenplay with Travis Beacham. And it won’t have to end for now: They’re already working on a sequel, as previously reported. The film is set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.

There’s more than just that anomaly in the future world of Pacific Rim, del Toro says. “It’s really creating a world that’s been shaped by two anomalies: the giant monsters and the giant robots we create to fight them.

‘Pacific Rim’ Images Need Less Talk, More Do

Warner Bros. has released a yet another still from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim… but again, don’t expect to see any robots or monsters in it. While the trailer does tease one of the giant creatures, we could use more action-packed imagery, instead of pics of people standing around talking. Yawn.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. Paul Giamatti On The Long Gestured ‘Bubba Nosferatu’

It’s been more than a decade since Phantasm director Don Coscarelli’s Bubba Ho-Tep independently made the festival and theatrical rounds turning it into cult classic. In the film, Elvis (Bruce Campbell) and JFK (Ossie Davis) are both alive and in nursing homes fighting for the souls of their fellow residents in a battle with an ancient Egyptian Mummy.

Since then, Coscarelli has been battling to get the sequel into production with A-lister Paul Giamatti. Collider spoke with the star about the long gestured Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires who confirms the existence of a script, while also keeping hope alive.

When I first met Don, it was just through funny circumstances. We got together and he told me he had the idea for a sequel to that, and I read the script, which was great,” said Giamatti. “I don’t know how much I would want to give away about it, though. The part I would play would be Colonel Parker, who was Elvis’ manager, and it was always a sinister relationship between the two of them, with how he had such control over him. The movie answers that question. It’s a vampire movie, and that’s part of how he has a hold over him. It’s a fantastic script! It’s different from the other one, but it’s still all about aging and compromising yourself. The way Bubba Ho-Tep was about getting old, this one’s about being middle-aged, in a great way. I hope that maybe we can still get it done ‘cause it’s a really great script.

Ron Perlman at one point was attached to replace Campbell.

Giamatti can be seen in Coscarelli’s John Dies at the End through Magnet On-Demand December 27, 2012 and in theaters February 3, 2013.

This isn’t footage from the film or anything, but it’s cool as hell and you can get a glimpse of the Kaiju monster about 47 seconds in! The broadcaster describes the creature as being over 300 feet tall. And, courtesy of Wired, we also have a blueprint of one of the human-piloted Jaeger robots (this particular design is for the Gipsy Danger mecha).

The boys over at studioADI have shared another great old-school video from their archives, this time showing the “real” Sigourney Weaver joking with the effects team.

You would think being on a cramped set with set-dressing tanks full of our Alien embryo creatures, the whole crew, and actors at work would make for a demanding day of shooting. So it was. Until Sigourney saw us shooting some behind the scenes video for our archives between shots and wanted in on the fun. Just in time for the New York Comic-Con, Warner Bros. has released a new poster for Guillermo del Toro’s epic sci-fi adventure Pacific Rim, which will be converted into 3D for its July 12, 2013 release.

The film is set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace. ‘Hellboy’ Star Ron Perlman Joins ‘Angry Little God’

Hellboy star Ron Perlman (pictured) has joined the cast of Daniel Stamm’s (The Last Exorcism) psychological thriller Angry Little God, an IM Global film that Dimension Films will distribute in the U.S., says THR.

Angry Little God — which began principal photography on Tuesday — headlines Mark Webber (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Rutina Wesley (“True Blood”). Perman isn’t the only new addition to the cast; Pruitt Taylor Vince, Tom Bower and Devon Graye will also star.

The thriller is the English-language remake of the Thai film 13: Game of Death. “The story follows an indebted man who gets a mysterious phone call telling him he’s on a hidden camera game show while also offering him a fortune if he completes thirteen tasks. The man accepts the challenge but is soon over his head as each task is more horrifying than the last.

Stamm and his writing partner David Birke wrote the script.

Guillermo Del Toro Post-Converting ‘Pacific Rim’ To 3D, What Do You Think?

Guillermo del Toro’s epic sci-fi adventure Pacific Rim will be converted into 3D, per Variety. The film is “Set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.” Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Robert Kazinsky, Ron Perlman, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff and Brad William Henke all star.

What’s interesting about this article is that even GDT doesn’t seem to think this is a good idea. It’s an unusually strongly worded piece from a trade publication, they don’t normally throw around words like “strong-armed”. But here they do! “Warner Bros. has strong-armed Guillermo del Toro to convert ‘Pacific Rim’ to 3D. The alien invasion pic has all the ingredients for a 3D tentpole — giant robots vs. aliens in a planet-wide battle to save humanity. But at Comic-Con in July, del Toro said he was resistant to converting the film to 3D because of the scale and size of the pic’s creatures. The director has never released a 3D pic. In the end, the prospect of the 3D upcharge — especially overseas — was likely too much for Warners to resist.

Pacific Rim opens on July 12, 2013. Which version will you be seeing? I’m kind of bummed. 2D screens – the director’s choice – will probably be a limited option. READ MORE

Go Behind-the-Scenes Of Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’

Del Toro recently stated that the battles in the film will take place everywhere, “We take the battles far and above! Two or three of them happen in places where there have never been a battle between kaiju and robots. From the bottom of the ocean to the atmosphere of the Earth. We have a battle in a storm at sea. [San Diego Comic-Con '12] ‘Pacific Rim’ Footage Description

Today we are ending the apocalypse” -Idris Elba in Pacific Rim.

Before the Godzilla trailer stomped Comic-Con attendees, Hall H was treated to the first ever footage from Guillermo del Toro’s giant monster movie, one that pits giant robots against the alien creatures. Here’s the footage description along with some factoids from the panel.

The trailer opened with a couple of older fellows with a metal detector walking in the snow. Said detector starts going crazy and they look up and there is a giant robot missing an arm. The words “To fight monsters/ We made monsters” flash across the screen.

All the while showing HUGE Kaiju like monsters destroying bridges, being shot at by jets, and then a giant robot (piloted by two pilots brain linked to each other controlling either the left or right hemisphere of the body). Robots punch monsters. Straight up wrestling moves. Think a live fight between Jet Jaguar and Chtulhu.

Q&A factoids:

  • There will be rocket punches. F-cking rocket punches.
  • There will be 9 different kaiju monsters, each with unique abilities.
  • Ron Perlman and Charlie Day are playing scientist type characters.
  • The CGI and sound is incredible. Cinematography is colorful and insane!
  • No motion capture. Del Toro made sure all the robots and monsters were key framed.

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] Just How Big Are The ‘Pacific Rim’ Robots? Answer On First Poster!

Warner Bros. Pictures is kicking the San Diego Comic-Con off early releasing the first ever teaser poster for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, his giant monsters/alien vs robots action flick opening in theaters July 12, 2013. The below one-sheet shares a first-ever look at one of the film’s robots, also known as Jaegers, used to battle the Kaiju (monsters). On its shoulder stands two stars so tiny they’re unidentifiable.

Set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
