 Rooney Mara Spits On Her A Nightmare on Elm Street Role

It’s easy to be dismissive now that Rooney Mara is on top of the world. But when the star of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was cast as Nancy Holbrook in the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, I guarantee she was excited. It was a pretty huge step up from her role in Urban Legends: Bloody Mary.

Now that Mara is a big star, she’s comfortable downplaying a role other actresses would have killed for. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly she explains that she didn’t want the role, and even tried to sabotage her chances.

You kind of learn to self-sabotage with thing you don’t want to get,” she tells the magazine. “Sometimes you don’t want to get something but you do a really good job and you get in anyway. That’s kind of [what happened] with A Nightmare on Elm Street-I didn’t even really want it. And then I went in [to audition] and I was like, [whispering] “F—. I definitely got that.

Spike Lee Wants ‘Dragon Tattoo’ and ‘Elm Street’ Star for ‘Oldboy’

With Josh Brolin now confirmed for the lead of Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy and the vultures circling Christian Bale for the villain role the question of the moment is who will play Brolin’s daughter? And sources are telling Twitch that the actress being targeted to play the character – renamed Marie in this version of the story – is Rooney Mara.

Offers have not been made, but it’s worth noting that Twitch was correct in their early scoop on Brolin’s casting.

Mara is blowing up after starring in New Line and Warners A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, and can be seen in the English version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo this December.
