A re-imagining of “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”. It focuses on Jonathan Harker as the Scotland Yard detective who is tracking Dracula, and the script sets up the sleuth as a potential new franchise character.
Even though The Man With the Iron Fists is billed as a “Quentin Tarantino Presents” project, Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel, Hostel 2) and RZA are the clear creative forces behind the film. They wrote the project together (based on an original story by RZA), working for years to create the world and mythology of the film. As a producer, Roth was on the film’s set in China every day helping RZA through his directorial debut.
In the film, “Since his arrival in China’s Jungle Village, the town’s blacksmith (RZA) has been forced by radical tribal factions to create elaborate tools of destruction. When the clans’ brewing war boils over, the stranger channels an ancient energy to transform himself into a human weapon. As he fights alongside iconic heroes and against soulless villains, one man must harness this power to become savior of his adopted people.”
I recently hopped on the phone with Roth and we discussed his partnership with RZA, building the world of Iron Fists, working with Russell Crowe and avoiding fight fatigue. In regard to his own work as a director, we talked about his evolution and what we can expect from The Green Inferno. READ MORE

As part of MTV’s “Fall Movie Preview” they revealed some exclusive new looks at this quarter’s genre releases.
First you’ll see a pair of new images featuring Milla Jovovich as Alice in Resident Evil: Retribution, which blasts into theaters September 14 from director Paul W.S Anderson. Milla looks hotter than ever…
In theaters October 5, check out a new look at Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, his stop-motion animated feature featuring the voice work of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan and Atticus Shaffer. Based on the 1984 short, “Young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences.”
Also shared was a new look at RZA and Eli Roth’s The Man with the Iron Fists, which stars RZA alongside Russell Crowe, Cung Le and Lucy Liu. In theaters November 2, “In feudal China, a blacksmith who makes weapons for a small village is put in the position where he must defend himself and his fellow villagers.”
Bringing back the kung-fu grindhouse gore flicks that inspired producers Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino, RZA’s The Man With The Iron Fists looks to be a melange of the insane and excessive. A western sized buffet of eastern dishes. And now a second red band (NSFW) trailer has hit. Unfortunately I can’t even really tell the difference between this one and the last. While the internet is ablaze with this “new” trailer”, I want you to take a look and tell me if you can see any differences. New title cards, a new character card here and there but that’s about it, right?
Russell Crowe, Pam Grier, Jamie Chung, Lucy Liu, and RZA all star in the flick. “In feudal China, a blacksmith (RZA) who makes weapons for a small village is put in the position where he must defend himself and his fellow villagers.”
Head inside to check it out! I’ve included the first one below the second so you can compare and contrast. List the differences in the comments! READ MORE
Warner Bros is getting a new script from Akiva Goldsman for the first installment of Stephen King’s mammoth Western The Dark Tower, and within two weeks, the studio will be making a decision on whether to green light the first leg of one of the most daring and ambitious projects to come along since The Lord Of The Rings, reports DL.
Javier Bardem is no longer in the mix as gunslinger Roland Deschain. Director Ron Howard and producers Brian Grazer and Goldsman have been talking with their A Beautiful Mind star Russell Crowe (pictured) about playing Deschain. The story will be told through three films and two limited run TV series.
“‘The Dark Tower’ is about the last living member of a knightly order of gunslingers, with Deschain becoming humanity’s last hope to save civilization as he hits the road to find the Dark Tower. Along the way, he encounters characters, good and bad, in a world that has an Old West feel.“
Eli Roth (pictured below; Hostel, Cabin Fever) is in talks to go back behind the camera for a Warner Bros project in development to star Russell Crowe (above), says Deadline.
In Harker, Lee Shipman & Brian McGreevy’s reimagining of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”, Crowe is attached to play Dracula who is tracked by Jonathan Harker, a Scotland Yard detective.
Crowe is only on board for the first film, but the script sets up the sleuth as a potential new franchise character. Harker is as yet uncast. Jaume Collet-Serra (Whiteout, Orphan, House of Wax) was originally attached to direct.
Harker will be produced by Appian Way (which produced Collet-Serra’s last directorial outing Orphan with Joel Silver’s Dark Castle) and its partners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran. Making this even cozier, Shipman and McGreevy wrote and are executive producing the Netflix TV project “Hemlock Grove” which Eli Roth is directing and exec-producing. READ MORE
Bringing back the kung-fu grindhouse gore flicks that inspired produced Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino, yesterday RZA revealed the first eye-popping still from The Man With the Iron Fists. Now the trailer hits, and it certainly delivers on that eye-gouging gore. Since the trailer is pretty sprawling it’s hard to get a bead on the story, but I think this is a case where we’re comfortable with that taking second seat to spectacle. At least in the trailer.

Earlier in the week we reported on a project called Harker, a new vampire film to be directed by House of Wax, Orphan and Unknown director Jaume Collet-Serra.
At the time Warner Bros. was closing still closing the deal to acquire Harker, a spec script by Lee Shipman & Brian McGreevy for a re-imagining of “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”. It focuses on Jonathan Harker as the Scotland Yard detective who is tracking Dracula, and the script sets up the sleuth as a potential new franchise character. It looks like that deal has been made.
Harker will be produced by Appian Way partners Leonardo DiCaprio (who is not planning to act) and Jennifer Davisson Killoran, in a coproduction with Mad Hatter Entertainment. Now there are reports that Russell Crowe may be taking the title role.
Vulture reports that, “Our spies tell us that Warner Bros. is in talks with Russell Crowe about starring in Harker, a reimagining of Bram Stoker’s Dracula that’s being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. It tells the vampire story from the point of view of Jonathan Harker, who — instead of his traditional role as a lawyer — is now a Scotland Yard detective investigating the Count’s string of grisly murders in England.”
It seems that the scuttling of Akira made room for the film in Serra’s schedule. And, interestingly, the Vulture article makes Akira seem like a project Warner Brothers may be revisiting sooner than we thought after putting the kibosh on it recently.
What do you think of Crowe potentially playing this role? I’m hoping for two things. One, that it’s not too stuffy. And Two, that it’s not some Sherlock Holmes (or Van Helsing) type of rejiggering.
