[Interview] Gareth Evans And Timo Tjahjanto Talk About Their Insane ‘V/H/S/2′ Segment, “Safe Haven”!

V/H/S/2 just hit VOD!! You can find the iTunes and Apple TV link here. Other outlets carrying it should also include Amazon, AT&T UVerse, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Google Play, Playstation 3, Sudden Link, Time Warner Cable, Verizon Fios, VUDU and Xbox Zune. Look around! There’s also a theatrical rollout set for July 12th. We’ve also got an insane look at a new poster courtesy of MTV.

In the film directed by Simon Barrett, Adam Wingard, Gareth Evans, Eduardo Sanchez, Gregg Hale, Jason Eisener and Timo Tjahjanto, “Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static—white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil.

Last night I hopped on the phone with directors Gareth Evans (The Raid) and Timo Tjahjanto (Killers) to talk about their segment, “Safe Haven.” While I was at it, I got a little bit of info on The Raid 2. Check it out below and be sure to write your V/H/S/2 review here!! READ MORE

‘V/H/S/2′ NOW On VOD! Here’s An Exclusive New Look…

My mind is still spinning is disbelief that we already have V/H/S/2 for you guys. This is 2013, so Magnet Releasing decided to get you this insane sequel as quickly as inhumanly possible. While it’ll also be in theaters on July 12 (please check it out if it’s near you), the found-footage anthology is now available on various VOD platforms including iTunes (link here), Amazon, AT&T UVerse, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Google Play, Playstation 3, Sudden Link, Time Warner Cable, Verizon Fios, VUDU and Xbox Zune.

We’re extremely proud of the first V/H/S, but we definitely took this in a new direction. To compare the two would be like comparing apples and oranges; the first was an experimental project, while V/H/S/2 (still S-VHS in my mind) is a something that we purposely made more humorous, with a furious pace. Again, we’re aiming to give you guys a good time and not trying to “fool” you into believing this is real. Grab some popcorn, a few friends, and enjoy the ride – and then return here to write your reviews. We want to always learn and get better because we make these for you. Thank you all for the continued support here at Bloody Disgusting. We love you.

This latest tape features the works of Gareth Evans (The Raid) & Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre), Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project, Lovely Molly) & Gregg Hale, Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun), Adam Wingard (You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die) and Simon Barrett (You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die), the latter of which will be making his directorial debut on the film.

Check out an exclusive new look at Gareth Evans and Timo Tjahjanto’s disturbing “Safe Haven.” I can almost guarantee you’re going to love it…

Return The Tape With This ‘V/H/S/2′ Poster!!

The poster for V/H/S/2 has emerged and it’s a nice, solid classy look for the film! It keeps the skull theme from the original but adds an air of old-school menace. By the way, as someone who really liked most of the original film, I’ve got no problem telling you that V/H/S/2 is much, much better. It’s tighter, shorter, leaner and a rock solid viewing experience.

Acquired by Magnet Releasing out of Sundance as S-VHS, V/H/S/2 will be arriving on VOD platforms June 6 with a theatrical rollout set for July 12. From the demented minds that brought you last year’s V/H/S comes V/H/S/2, an all-new anthology of dread, madness, and gore. This follow-up ventures even further down the demented path blazed by its predecessor, discovering new and terrifying territory in the genre. This is modern horror at its most inventive, shrewdly subverting our expectations about viral videos in ways that are just as satisfying as they are sadistic. The result is the rarest of all tapes—a second generation with no loss of quality.

Incredible Fan-Made Stop-Motion ‘V/H/S/2′ Logo; Memento Sells Rights Internationally

Before we get to the international news, I was sent a short video by fan Trent Shy who created this incredible stop-motion animated title card for our forthcoming V/H/S/2, acquired by Magnet Releasing out of Sundance as S-VHS. The video depicts a VHS tape exploding to create a skull face. We like skulls. A lot.

‘The Raid 2′ Starts Mammoth 100+ Day Shoot!

In some rather great news, director Gareth Evans (The Raid, S-VHS) has commenced shooting The Raid 2 (which will bear the subtitle Berandal in some foreign markets)! Any of you guys who saw the first one know full well that it warrants inclusion on this site because of it’s carnage and gore factor. Also? It’s an awesome movie. PT Merantau Films and XYZ Films announced that the film has started shooting in Jakarta, Indonesia and is scheduled to shoot for over 100 DAYS!

That’s a super long shooting schedule, which means we can expect that they won’t skimp on the choreography, blocking or stunts this time around either. Iko Uwais returns in the lead.

Picking up right where the first film ends, ‘The Raid 2′ follows Rama (Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.

Memento Film Acquires International Sales Rights To ‘S-VHS’

Paris-based Memento Film International has picked up international rights to found footage horror picture S-VHS, following its premiere in the Midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival last week, reports Screen Daily.

The picture is the sequel to V/H/S, which had members of the audience fainting in the aisles when it premiered in Sundance last year. News of deal follows Friday’s announcement that WME, which represented North America, had sold the picture to Magnolia which also distributed V/H/S.

We’re already big fans of the first one, which was super scary and smart,” said Memento head of international sales Tanja Meissner.

This one takes it to another level. The talent of the directors involved and the new orientations on the found footage exercise makes this second installment a sure bet for theatrical releases around the globe.

S-VHS is produced by The Collective, Salient Media and Brad Miska and Tom Owen’s Bloody Disgusting. The portmanteau features segments by horror maestros Adam Wingard, Simon Barrett, Eduardo Sánchez, Gregg Hale, Timo Tjahjanto, Gareth Evans and Jason Eisener. READ MORE

[Sundance '13] It’s Official, Magnolia To Press Play On ‘S-VHS’!!!

Bloody Disgusting’s S-VHS, the latest V/H/S project, had its world premiere Saturday night at Park City’s Library Center Theatre during the Sundance 2013 Film Festival. It was followed by a wave of great reviews – a much more unanimously positive reception than last year’s outing. And then, like last year, a deal was made within days to bring the film to the big screen. It’s being reported via Variety that Magnolia Pictures, who scored V/H/S out of the 2012 fest, has acquired the second tape for limited theatrical run, alongside ultra VOD via Magnet Releasing. The announcement was held here until it was official.

Our goal is to make each sequel better than the last, unlike any horror franchise ever,” Brad told me via text adding “We know that’s a bold and nearly impossible task, but we’re trying our best to deliver quality horror that we can be proud of.

The first movie followed a group of students hired to break into a desolate house to find a lost VHS tape, paving the way for the movie to go into a series of found-footage stories directed by up-and-coming genre filmmakers. The new movie, starring Adam Wingard, Kelsy Abbott, Lawrence Michael, Levine Hannah Hughes and L.C. Holt, follows a similar structure, with a pair of investigators discovering a tape while looking for a student. READ MORE

[Sundance '13] Early Reviews For ‘S-VHS’ Come Tracking In!!

S-VHS, the latest V/H/S project, had its world premiere last night at Park City’s Library Center Theatre during the Sundance 2013 Film Festival. When I woke up this morning, I was pretty thrilled to find that my twitter feed was filled with glowing chatter about the film, some of it even from critics who didn’t like the original V/H/S all that much.

Now, we are NEVER going to do an official review this film on this site. But that doesn’t mean I’m not gonna share what other people are saying. The general consensus is that this is a much more solid film than the original (some are saying it’s leaps and bounds better). It’s definitely shorter, gorier and bigger.
