The sequel to ‘Army of Darkness’ and fourth ‘Evil Dead’ film. Starring our hero Ash, as he battles the evil of the Necronomicon.
The story of a suburban home built over an Indian burial ground and thus inhabited by a nasty spook.
FilmDistrict and TriStar’s Evil Dead is headed to DVD and Blu-ray on July 16th. Hopefully the uncut version is on there as well, but we’ll have to see about that! It does have a lot of bonus features, so at least there’s that! Check out my review here. READ MORE

An update to our exclusive story posted yesterday regarding the plot details for the forthcoming Poltergeist “remake.”
Our friends at Moviehole.net reveal that the Gil Kenan-directed Sam Raimi-produced reboot – much like the Evil Dead remake – exists in the same world as the previous Poltergeist films. So while it is a ‘reboot’ of the franchise, it’s also somewhat of a sequel – taking place years after the Freeling’s were ran out of town. READ MORE
FINALLY! The episode Danny! and Tim have been waiting for since the inception of Double Murder: THE EVIL DEAD!!! Does Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult classic, The Evil Dead, still hold up after all these years, or is our reverence based purely on nostalgia? Will Fede Alvarez’s 2013 remake become just another name of the long list of remake failures, or can it live up to the high bar set by the original? Did Tim get a quote from Star Trek: The Next Generation tattooed on his knuckles? Will Danny! butcher everyone’s names? Are you going to listen all the way to the end of the episode? There’s only one way to find out: LISTEN TO DOUBLE MURDER!!! READ MORE
It’s the 20th episode of Aural Pleasures and we’re thrilled to actually have made it this long! Jonny and Bill are joined by Bill’s brother Dan for a roundtable discussion about everything under the sun, including Jurassic Park 3D, Evil Dead, Friday The 13th, and more.
The guys also chat some music, including the soundtracks to Halo 4 and Bioshock: Infinite as well as groups like Deftones and Rob Zombie‘s upcoming album Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor. They also go over the upcoming Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival and figure out which bands Bill is excited to see! (Hint: it’s not Five Finger Death Punch)
Also, keep your ears peeled back for a guest appearance from one of our favorite bands, Tool! All this and a whole lot more, so give it all a listen below! READ MORE
Okay, now that we’ve all had a chance to see FilmDistrict and TriStar’s Evil Dead remake (and stop reading now if you haven’t) – perhaps we should discuss this piece from a few weeks back.
You see that image above? And how it wasn’t in the movie? Well it ties into that piece. There WAS an alternate ending shot, but it didn’t play out exactly the way our source indicated. Therefore – and we’re big boys so we can admit this – the denial that Bruce Campbell issued was actually technically correct.
But there WAS something else. Head inside for more… READ MORE
FilmDistrict and TriStar’s Evil Dead remake handily won the box office this weekend with an estimated $26 Million haul. That’s pretty impressive for an “R” rated horror film, especially one as gory as this. Interestingly enough – the film only scored a C+ cinemascore, which would seem to indicate that exit polling among randomly sampled attendees on Friday was mixed right down the line between “love it” and “hate it.”
While I had a total blast with the film, I understand how some could be disappointed. Evil Dead is a 31 year old property and means many different things to many different people. It’s had a lot of time to seep into the culture and become a part of people’s lives. It’s important to some for entirely different reasons than it is for others, so if remake isn’t in the aesthetic of whatever you hold Evil Dead up to be, I get it. And perhaps some viewers never recovered from some of the clumsiness in the 1st act.
Still, I’d be willing to bet that a good portion of that “C+” was people stumbling out of the theater disgusted, people who never wanted to be there but were dragged in by their super-fan significant other. Either way, it looks pretty good for Evil Dead 2 and I’m genuinely curious to see where Alvarez takes the franchise.

It’s now time for the final entry of our Deadite Of The Day contest. As we stated before (head inside for the full list of rules)! Winners will be announced daily from March 25th – April 5th (weekends excluded). And well, April 5th is today. Again, it’s kind of a bummer because this has actually been very rewarding for me. It’s a lot of fun to share these creations with the world and make true horror fans happy.
Today’s winner is Jay Woodley (along with Danielle Skelley for putting up with it)! I got a lot of Evil Dead cosplay pics but I think this was my favorite. In Jay’s (brief) words, “Hey guys! here is the costume i made a few years back. with REAL homelite xl chainsaw. Enjoy!”
Be sure to check back Monday to see who we announce as the grand prize winner! Whoever they are will receive POSTER SIGNED BY THE CAST AND CREW of Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake – in theaters today!
In the meantime, head inside for a better look at Jay’s work! READ MORE
FilmDistrict and TriStar’s Evil Dead was officially released last night at 10PM, so I figure now is a good a time as any to re-post my review from last month’s SXSW Film Festival. I’ve seen the film once more since then, and my impression was largely the same – I pretty much loved it. It hits some snags in the first 30 minutes and some of the character beats are thin – but once it gets going it just flies. By then end of the last exhilarating hour I was so buzzed on the carnage I didn’t care about the flaws.
From my review, “It’s even gorier than you’re expecting. I seriously don’t have a clue as to how they wrangled an “R” rating here. Blood, pus, bone fragments, limbs and brains are flung around with playful abundance and the result is both punishing and exhilarating… This film doesn’t condemn its audience, it exalts it – and as a result it’s able to achieve a sustained symphony of carnage that energizes rather than exhausts.”
Directed by Fede Alvarez, the R-rated remake stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore and Jessica Lucas.

It’s time we started winding down our Deadite Of The Day contest. As we stated before (head inside for the full list of rules)! Winners will be announced daily from March 25th – April 5th (weekends excluded), and that means we are no longer open for submissions. Which makes me sort of sad, because this has actually been very rewarding for me. It’s a lot of fun to share these creations with the world and make true horror fans happy.
Today’s winner is Nathaniel Fitzgerald (along with Danielle Skelley for putting up with it)! They created a pretty awesome wedding shower invite! It’s this kind of commitment to the lifestyle that I can really get behind. In Nathaniel’s words, “My name is Nathaniel Fitzgerald, and I’m from Zombie Town, Pittsburgh, PA! I was thinking of posting pictures from my own Evil Dead collection of goodies, instead I thought I’d send the invitations I made for the wedding shower zombie party my wife and I had last October around Halloween!! You may have to blur out the phone number’s and address’s to post this online, but I thought you might like the “Edited” version of the original poster with Wedding Veil and Engagement Ring! Thanks!!!” I did indeed blur out their contact info – so the ugly smudges are mine, not theirs.

Are you gearing up for your 10 PM showing of Evil Dead tonight? The film technically hits theaters this Friday, April 5th, but I suspect a lot of you will be heading in later this evening (my review here)! To celebrate, John Gholson over at Movies.com has created a cool infograph that compares stats from the original film to the upcoming remake.
In the film, “In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist’s tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.” Jane Levy, Lou Taylor Pucci, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore star.

The new Evil Dead hits theaters this Friday, April 5th (or 10 PM tonight), but you already know my thoughts on it. If you’re a horror fan, it’s something you don’t want to miss. It hits a few bumps in the beginning – but once it gets going the film just flies along and it’s a gory, glorious blast (my review here)! Last weekend I sat down with stars Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci and Jessica Lucas to talk about the physical rigors of the shoot – as well as Pucci’s innate fandom of the series. We also out one of the actors as having never seen the original film. Also, if you missed my chat with Jane Levy and Fede Alvarez, it’s right here.

Today’s winner is Dennis Carter Jr.! He has an amazing, HUGE collection of Evil Dead memorabilia. Much of it official. I’ve included 17 images – but would you believe I had to pare that down? I think I got dozens more! In his own words, “My collection consists of actual movie props, replicas, toys, books, promo items, CD’s, photos, and collectables. Some of the highlights of my collection are:
1: The only surviving movie prop of Ash’s possessed hand from Evil Dead 2. There were two that were made for the stop motion sequences. One was destroyed years ago. This one is the only one that survived. 2: One of the Lost Pages of the necronomicon from Evil Dead 2 showing the Winged Deadite. This one was used during filming and has some of the fake blood used on the actors on it. 3: A production made but unused Winged Deadite head from the Winged Deadite in Evil Dead 2. It was made and painted by one of the people who worked on the film.”
I actually have to stop it there and include his full list of “highlights” below the photo gallery iside because it’s so long.
Remember there are still TWO winners left to announce this week – and today is the last day to enter! Head inside to check out Carter’s AMAZING collection! READ MORE

It hits a few bumps in the beginning – but once it gets going the film just flies along and it’s a gory, glorious blast (my review here)! We also touch upon the potential plans for the upcoming sequel.

Today’s winner is Laz Marquez!. He writes in with pretty great new poster for Fede Alvarez’s upcoming remake! In his words, “I wanted to capture the iconic elements of the film while focusing on the horror one would feel by being overcome by an entity outside of themselves. The image of a fearful eye, crying, with the iris/logo overtaking that was something I wanted to come through. The cabin was always secondary to me, as the design implies. It was always the violation of the deadites onto another person that intrigued me. ” You can check out more of his work here!

So recently we’ve all kind of heard that Evil Dead 4 might be, according to Bruce Campbell at least, essentially Army Of Darkness 2. While I’d prefer things go back to the woods – I can’t say I fault them for this either. Going bigger and weirder might be the most fun for Raimi and Campbell at this point.
Empire Online recently caught up with the chin himself who explained that the new remake gave them the juice to start up again, “The reception to this movie [Fede Alvarez' remake] has been pretty good so far, so it encouraged Sam and I to go, ‘well crap, maybe we should dust the old chainsaw off. If this movie helps us make another Army Of Darkness – Army Of Darkness 2 – then so be it.”
But Army Of Darkness has two different endings! Which one would it continue from? Head inside… READ MORE
The new Evil Dead film will be coming out next Friday and it seems like the entire horror fanbase is on pins and needles awaiting its release. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve seen such hype for a horror release since I began here at Bloody-Disgusting back in late 2009. From the look of it, it’s a film that not only respects the horror fanbase but is a film made for us. Still, having not seen the film, I can only wait with you and hope for the best.
This excitement and fervor has swept into the music world and members of some of the most extreme and intense bands out there want to share their thoughts on the original films and the upcoming remake. Today’s winners are Luke Bramley, Gigi Saul Guerrero and Raynor Shima. Since they all worked on the same project, it only counts as one entry – but it’s a cool one. It’s a retelling of the original Evil Dead (with a visual nod to the remake) in 60 seconds. Per Bramley, “‘d like to submit our recreation of the original Evil Dead done in 60 seconds for the Deadite of the Day contest. Created by myself (Luke Bramley), Gigi Saul Guerrero, and Raynor Shima (with the help of our fantastic cast and crew), we submitted this to the Virgin Radio Fake Film Festival, and although we didn’t win 1st place, we came in the top 5 and received a lot of positive feedback from Evil Dead fans everywhere.”

With the Fede Alvarez-directed Evil Dead remake coming out next Friday, it’d be a crime to not report on composer Roque Baños‘ score for the film, which many are hailing as nothing short of brilliance. On April 9th, LaLaLand Records will be releasing the soundtrack as a digital download AND as a deluxe CD edition, the latter of which will feature 25 minutes of additional music not featured in the digital download. The CD version of the standard edition will be available on Amazon and all other major online retailers May 7th.

Today’s winner is Ted Dastick Jr., from Bellmawr, NJ. He writes in with pretty badass oil painting! In his words, “I did this Evil Dead oil painting back in 2005 and got it signed at the Horrorfind Weekend Convention by Bruce Campbell, Sarah York, Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker, Hal Delrich, and Tom Sullivan! They were all pretty impressed with it and had great comments for me, except Hal, who busted my chops saying I messed him all up (I think he was kidding?). ”

Today’s winner is Theodore Holmstead-Scott, who is only 15 years old. He runs The House Of Marrow blog and has made a cool short, The Woods Themselves, expressly for this contest. In his own words, “I first saw the Evil Dead films around this time last year and immediately fell in love with them. When I saw the contest post on your site I immediately set to work. I built the prop (an ancient victim of the ‘angry molesting trees’) over the last week and filmed it in the woods on the weekend – it was pretty exhausting, but absolutely worth it. ‘The Evil Dead’ is one of my most favorite films, and also one that inspired me to get into filmmaking.”
I really dig how Theodore’s short uses that low-roving camera angle, and that jump over the fallen tree near the end is what sealed the deal for me. That one moment captures the playful vibe of the original trilogy so well. Sadly, Theodore hails from Wellington, New Zealand. So if he wants to be eligible for the signed poster he needs to have someone in the US it can be mailed to. Though – again – we still have 8 more winners to announce who are also eligible.
