In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

Director Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as the title character, Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) as media mogul Pat Novak. Peter Weller played the character in the original and the 1990 sequel.

The pic is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

‘Oldboy’ Will Open Against ‘Paranormal Activity 5′

The Spike Lee-directed remake of Park Chan-wook’s cult Korean classic Oldboy will now see its wide release on October 25, 2013, after FilmDistrict originally slated it for October 11, says Deadline.

Oldboy will now bow opposite Paramount Pictures’ Paranormal Activity 5, which already had the date.

Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley star in the revenge pic, which was originally part of Park’s Vengeance trilogy that included Lady Vengeance and Sympathy For Mister Vengeance. That latter movie is also getting a U.S. remake, with Silver Reel and Lotus Entertainment announcing in Cannes that they are partnering with di Bonaventura Pictures and CJ Entertainment for an English-language version from a script by Broken City‘s Brian Tucker.

Teaser Posters For ‘R.I.P.D.,’ ‘Oldboy’ and ‘Insidious Chapter 2′

Out of the CinemaCon starting tomorrow in Las Vegas comes teaser logo posters for a trio of upcoming genre films.

The Insidious Chapter 2 looks like the film’s first logo, only with the letter “S” forming a “2″. In theaters September 13, Oscar-nominated Barbara Hershey will play the role of Lorraine Lambert, the mother to Patrick Wilson’s Josh Lambert and the grandmother to the demon-possessed boy Dalton. Directed by James Wan, who was recently attached to the next Fast & Furious installment, the pic also stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Andrew Astor, Jocelin Donahue, and Danielle Bisutti.

I quite enjoy FilmDistrict’s Oldboy tease, which scratches out the number of days before the protag. is released from prison. In theaters October 11, the film stars Josh Bolin as an advertising executive who is kidnapped and imprisoned for 20 years without explanation. He is abruptly released and sets out to discover the who and why of his captivity, running across a social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation. The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson and James Ransone.

Just added is also a look at the poster for Uni’s R.I.P.D., Robert Schwentke’s troubles comic adaptation in theaters July 19. 1samuel jackson 1024x295 [News Bites] Samuel Jackson For RoboCop, Twilight Zone Rewrites, Time Travel With Glimmer & Abraham Lincoln Directors Cut

Samuel L. Jackson is joining the cast of Robocop, MGM and Sony’s remake of the classic 1987 sci-fi action movie, reports THR. Jose Padilha is directing the film, which sees Joel Kinnaman (“The Killing”) as the title hero, a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer. Gary Oldman has already been cast as his scientist-creator. Jackson will play Pat Novak, a charismatic media mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world. Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are producing the movie, which is eyeing a September shoot in Toronto and has a tentative release date of August 9, 2013.

All You Need Is Kill scribe Joby Harold is in negotiations to rewrite The Twilight Zone for Warner Bros. and Appian Way, says Variety. Cloverfield helmer Matt Reeves is set to direct from a script originally penned by Jason Rothenberg and subsequently rewritten by Sherlock Holmes scribe Anthony Peckham. Unlike the 1983 feature that had four separate storylines, this pic will have one story that features elements from the “Twilight Zone” universe made popular by Rod Serling’s classic TV series.

They also report that, in a competitive situation, DreamWorks has shelled out mid-six figures to acquire Glimmer, a sci-fi/fantasy spec written by Carter Blanchard (Immortals). The script is described as an “Amblin-esque found-footage tale involving teenagers and time travel.” That’s just enough info to get me excited.

Lastly, below you’ll find a video trailer for “Director’s Cut: The Art of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” Conceived by director Timur Bekmambetov, this deluxe edition utilizes never-before-seen storyboards, as well as exquisite pieces of production art and conceptual designs to journey deep into the mythology of the film, telling the tale of Abraham Lincoln as seen through the eyes of “Adam,” an ancient and powerful vampire who rules the American South.
