10 Worst Horror Exposition Monologues!!!

Often times, a horror film has to take a moment or two to finally explain what’s been going on the whole movie. These exposition scenes are almost always eye-rollingly long and drawn out.

Not every film can have Richard Dreyfuss show up and offer a just perfect amount of information with a great performance. Sometimes you have to listen to Tony Todd pontificate instead.

Check out some of the worst offenders after the break. READ MORE

Teaser For James Wan’s ‘The Conjuring’ Looks Like Haunted Horror Done Right! Over A Dozen Images Added!!

I’ve begin to hate haunting/possession movies recently because nothing ever happens in them except a few people bending over backwards. Big deal, lots of people have scoliosis. But director James Wan (Saw, Insidious) The Conjuring (previously The Warren Files) looks like he’s aware of those pitfalls and is sidestepping them without sacrificing character. This teaser focusses almost exclusively on Lili Taylor’s character, so I imagine we’ll be getting that features the whole ensemble soon enough.

In particular I think the blindfold scare at the beginning is particularly well done. It’s a variation on a gag we’ve seen before, for sure, but it’s pulled off with confidence and restraint and as such wrings new scares out of it. I spent some time on the set of this movie last year and look forward to sharing that report with you in the coming months.

In the film, “Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, “The Conjuring” tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.” Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston star.

This movie apparently had insanely high scores from test audiences, hence the summer release date. Wan is also busy filming Insidious Chapter 2 at the moment. Head inside for the trailer and images! Clap if you want more!!! READ MORE

[Editorial] Why Are We So Against Romance In Horror?

Do you believe in destiny? That even the powers of time can be altered for a single purpose? That the luckiest man who walks on this earth is the one who finds… true love?” – Count Dracula (Bram Stoker’s Dracula 1992)

There was a time in horror when romance was an integral part of the story, where love and the actions that characters would take for it were what moved the plot forward. Films such as the aforementioned Bram Stoker’s Dracula spring to mind as do many of the classical Universal monster films, Cronenberg’s The Fly, Carpenter’s Big Trouble In Little China, and countless more.

With tomorrow being Valentine’s Day, I thought that I would share my thoughts on the topic of romance in horror and why it seems to have faded. READ MORE

5 MORE Horror Movies With Amazing Endings!!!

When it comes to endings, sometimes you’ve got to take the advice of Jesus (as played by Jerry Cantrell in Jerry Maguire) and hang your balls out there to be great. So while all of these endings are awesome, most of them aren’t exactly happy. It’s not that I’m against happy endings, but often they clash so harshly with the film’s overall tone and theme that you just know they’re tacked on compromises.

A few months ago I wrote a piece called 5 Horror Films With Amazing Endings and you guys had a lot to say on the matter. So I decided to incorporate some of your suggestions into the sequel, 5 MORE Horror Movies With Amazing Endings (there’s also 5 Horror Movies With Horrible Endings and 5 MORE Horror Movies With Horrible Endings if you’re feeling the hate)!

First Image Spirals Out Of James Wan’s ‘The Conjuring’!

Warner Bros. Pictures will release James Wan’s The Conjuring (previously The Warren Files) on July 19, 2013. That’s a ways off, but now EW print edition has landed the first look at the film! It features Vera Farmiga’s Lorraine Warren staring into a music-box that emits something close Wan’s trademark Saw spiral.

Wan, director of Saw, Dead Silence and Insidious, tells this alternate take on The Amityville Horror that’s inspired by the supernatural events that happened in the Rhode Island home of the Perron family. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are playing the investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Lilli Taylor and Ron Livingston will portray the Perrons.

10 Top Calorie-Burning Horror Movies!!!

The Telegraph just published a report detailing the results of a study done by the University of Westminster on the calorie-burning efficacy of horror films. Per the report, watching some of these horror films burns can burn up nearly 200 calories a time. Or in more tangible terms, a horror movie can burn off a bar of chocolate.

According to the study, “viewers who put themselves through 90 minutes of adrenaline-pumping terror can use up as much as 113 calories, close to the amount burned during a half-hour walk and the equivalent to a chocolate bar.” The University of Westminster study measured the total energy expenditure of ten different people as they watched a selection of frightening movies.

[Random Cool] Check Out This Amazing Double Neck 8-String Billy The Puppet Saw Guitar

Let’s be honest here, guitars with horror artwork can either be really beautifully crafted or look like total garbage. And custom guitar bodies also suffer the same problem. Sometimes they look so unique and incredible that it takes the breath away. But other times you look at the guitar and wonder, “What the hell were they thinking? That’s not even cool looking at all!”

Below is a guitar that I think turned out really well. Clearly designed by a horror lover, it’s a double neck, 8-string guitar (yes, both sides are 8-string for maximum br00tal m3t4lz) that features the face of Billy The Puppet, the beloved little icon from the Saw franchise. The edges of the guitar are shaped like saw teeth, which though I’m not a fan of, I think it works perfectly considering the idea of this guitar.

Check out the guitar below and leave a comment with a link to YOUR favorite horror-inspired guitar! READ MORE

Forget ‘Twilight,’ Lionsgate Tinkering With Remaking ‘Saw’ Franchise…

Remember when we told you that Lionsgate was planning on remaking the Twilight films? You can go ahead and just replace “Twilight” with “Saw“…

Sources we trust tell Bloody exclusively that Lionsgate is tinkering with the idea of rebooting the Saw franchise, although an eighth film isn’t out of the cards. It should also be noted that nothing is official, and nothing has been decided. Things are at infant stages at this time, but rest assured, Jigsaw will return.

Saw was created by Australian filmmakers James Wan and Leigh Whannell, who have gone on to collaborate on Dead Silence, Death Sentence and even Insidious. Saw premiered at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and opened in theaters October 29, 2004 to rave reviews. The first Saw has grossed over $100 million worldwide, with the several films breaking the $870 million mark worldwide.

Even though Saw 3D (released on October 29, 2010) was dubbed the “final” entry, we’ve been very firm (and public) in our stance that Lionsgate had more up their sleeve.

This isn’t a list of every horror movie ever made. Nor does it contain every major work of every horror auteur (you’ll notice we didn’t include John Carpenter’s They Live or Wes Craven’s The Last House On The Left). It’s a broad sampling of key films from the genre.

But you don’t have to be a horror die-hard to take the challenge! If you’re comfortable being a “Soccer Mom”, simply clock how many of these you have (or haven’t) seen and let us know! There are 61 Films listed below the jump. Each film you’ve seen earns you 1 Point. Count out how many you’ve seen and let us know which category you fall into. ‘The Hospital’ Has As Many Ambitions As It Does Patients!

HospitalBanner50312 The Hospital Has As Many Ambitions As It Does Patients!

Allied Horror, in association with Lazy Donkey Films, has begun pre-production on The Hospital, starring genre staples such as John Dugan (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Scott Tepperman (Ghost Hunters International), Jim O’Rear (The Dead Matter), and Daniel Emery Taylor (Return Of The Swamp Thing).

They claim that the film will be like Saw, Hostel, Paranormal Activity and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre rolled into one. Kudos to them if they can pull it off! The film is also being shot in “actual haunted locations” this summer in East Tennessee and “the filmmakers are almost guaranteed to capture real paranormal activity while they are shooting their scripted paranormal events.

In the film, “Old St. Leopold’s Hospital has many urban legends surrounding it, but the residents of Bridgeport all agree on one thing: tortured souls roam its abandoned halls. The mystery proves too much for a pretty young student who decides to investigate for her senior class project. Unfortunately, she does not find ghosts. She, instead, finds Stanley… serial rapist, murderer, and psychopath. As the young girl becomes Stanley’s new pet, a team of young investigators descend on the hospital to “hunt some ghosts.” Stanley sees nothing but fun and games in his future. But, what Stanley does not know is that the hospital truly is haunted and the restless spirits there are not happy with what he has been doing.

Here Is What It Would Be Like To Serve On The Devil’s Chain Gang

Produced by Bloody-Disgusting’s own Tim Anderson, directed by Steven Shea (Hoodoo for Voodoo, Doomsday County, 2:22) and starring J. Whannell And Wan Back For ‘Insidious 2′! Any Guesses As To What Happens?

Whannell And Wan Back For Insidious 2! Any Guesses As To What Happens?

It should come as no surprise that a sequel to Insidious is going forward. After all, the first one had an amazing return on investment.

But what hasn’t been confirmed (until now) is the involvement of Leigh Whannell and James Wan. There had even been talk of the film moving forward without them. When I spoke to Wan in October he had this to say, “The film is about to push 100 million worldwide right now, so I wish I could give you a creative response but when a film like this makes so much money the powers that be usually like to see a sequel. We would only do it if we could come up with something really cool and really unique. That’s why I never did and of the ‘Saw’ sequels because I didn’t want to repeat myself. But if there’s a cool idea, we’ll do it.

Well he must have found a cool idea! Because it looks like both Whannell and Wan are in. “A sequel to the horror hit Insidious is in the works, with Leigh Whannell returning to write the script and James Wan in talks to once again direct. Jason Blum will produce through Blumhouse Productions and Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Oren Peli and Steven Schneider will be exec producers.

Insidious was the most fun project I’ve ever worked on,” Whannell said in a statement. “From start to finish it was an absolute joy—from the writing of the screenplay, all the way to the first screening of the film at the Toronto film festival. I believe that James Wan and I achieved what we set out to do—create a horror film for horror fans…Both of us feel that we can mine more terror from the world we created and know that if we assemble every member of the original team, we will have an amazing continuation of the story for fans of the first film. Thank you so much to every fan—you are the reason why we do what we do. See you in The Further.

Wan and Whannell are keeping the plot of the sequel under wraps. What do you guys hope for in the sequel? READ MORE

Lili Taylor And Ron Livingtson Apparate On Wan’s ‘The Conjuring’, Film Could Get A Title Change

LiliTaylorLand12412 Lili Taylor And Ron Livingtson Apparate On Wans The Conjuring, Film Could Get A Title Change

Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston have signed on to the new James Wan (Insidious) film for New Line, The Conjuring. They join previously announced Patrick Wilson (Young Adult, Watchmen and Insidious) and Vera Farmiga (The Departed, Orphan).

Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor, both actors who cut their teeth in the indie scene, are in negotiations to join Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in New Line’s supernatural thriller formerly known as ‘The Conjuring’. Now under the working title of the Untitled Warren Files Project, the script, written by Chad and Carey Hayes, centers on a a husband and wife team (Wilson, Farmiga) of demonologists and psychic investigators who enter the most horrifying case of their career, spirits in a Rhode Island farmhouse. Livingston and Taylor will play a couple who move with their kids to the farmhouse and begin to be haunted.

Untitled Warren Files Project? Sounds like this whole thing will be getting a new name.

The project is inspired by the true-life story of the Perron family, who claimed they “lived among the dead” in the 1970s as spirits both friendly and sinister inhabited their Rhode Island farmhouse.

The film, “inspired by the supernatural events that happened in the Rhode Island home of the Perron family,” would have the director returning to the realm of domestic haunts. Originally on Summit’s radar, New Line stepped in and bought the pitch when talks fell through. READ MORE

Lionsgate Finally Admits Jigsaws Game Will Continue in Eighth Saw

Even while Lionsgate was promoting the release of Saw 3D last July-October we’d been hearing internal rumblings that an eighth film would most definitely be happening – at least after the franchise took a much needed short hiatus.

Liongate Vice Chairman Michael Burns recently spoke with CNBC and openly revealed that a new film was in the cards.

I’m sure, some day, you’ll see Saw back in the picture,” Burns said, speaking on the potential return of Jigsaw and his infamous games of life and death.

Other than the upcoming The Hunger Games, Lionsgate doesn’t have any other major franchises (unless you count Tyler Perry’s name). Unless they push hard with You’re Next, doing another Saw is a very smart way to some financial gain.

Saw 3D was far from closure, which is why I personally would like to see another film. What do you say? What do you want to see? READ MORE
