An update to EW’s report that Malcolm Lee (Roll Bounce, Undercover Brother) will direct Scary Movie 5, the latest entry in the horror spoof franchise that kicked off in 2000 under the direction of the Wayans brothers, and grossed nearly $300 million worldwide.

A new article over at Variety reveals a few of the franchise films that Scary Movie 5 will spoof. They include: Black Swan, Paranormal Activity, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and 127 Hours.

Casting is underway but David Zucker, who wrote and directed both Scary Movie 3 and 4, will also be returning to co-write and produce the fifth installment alongside Lee.

Before Lee was hired, Bloody Disgusting had confirmed that Anthony Anderson (Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4, Scream 4), Regina Hall (Scary Movie 1-4) and Kevin Hart (Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4, Superhero Movie) would all star. This could change with a new director, especially after the success of Hart’s Think Like A Man this past weekend.

Production is slated to begin this summer.

Dimension Bumps ‘Scary Movie 5′ To 2013

I know this is going to shock you, but Dimension Films is moving their latest spoof sequel Scary Movie 5 from April 20 to a January 11, 2013 date. The move was expected as David Zucker has yet to go behind the camera. His involvement is still speculation, along with the casting of Anthony Anderson, Regina Hall and Kevin Hart.

No plot details have been revealed, but it would be safe to assume it’ll make fun of found footage horror. Too bad Scary Movie star Marlon Wayans took his talents elsewhere and is already doing a found footage spoof entitled Smart Ass. You snooze, you lose. READ MORE

Get Ready for Mega Meta Mayhem When Charlie Sheen Joins ‘Scary Movie 5′

While a had my fun screaming “Winning!” and “I’ve got tiger’s blood”, the joke is old, stale, and frankly should be locked away in the vault for life. Between Charlie Sheen making peace over his firing off of the bland sitcom “Two & a Half Men”, and his roast being a send off to the past year of PR mayhem, I thought we were going to be finished with the “Warlock” with “Adonis DNA.”

According to the random website, ThinkMcFlyThink, Sheen is in negotiations to star in Dimension Films’ Scary Movie 5. The previous four installments were dog sh*t, with the past two being some of the lamest of spoof films ever assembled. I thought that, being the year 2011, we were moving into a new area. Unfortunately, it sounds as if we’ll be resuming jokes that involve a hotdog, a donut and an out of control actor. Get ready for a series of self-referential jokes that’ll be too little, too late come 2012.

If Sheen were to sign on, he’d join the previously announced cast of Anthony Anderson, Regina Hall and Kevin Hart. There is no director attached as of yet, although David Zucker has been originally locked in. They better hurry if they’re going to make their April 20, 2012 date.

Sheen starred in both Scary Movie 3 and 4.

‘Scary Movie 5′ Writers, Offers Made for Returning Cast

Dimension Films has tapped Stephen Leff, John Aboud (The Comebacks) and Michael Colton (The Comebacks) to pen Scary Movie 5, the latest entry in the horror spoof franchise that kicked off in 2000 under the direction of the Wayans brothers, and grossed nearly $300 million worldwide.

Bloody Disgusting is being told that Dimension is hoping to bring back stars Anthony Anderson (Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4, Scream 4), Regina Hall (Scary Movie 1-4) and Kevin Hart (Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4, Superhero Movie), who have all appeared in multiple franchise sequels. Offers have been made, although nothing has been signed yet.

Update: We’re told Zucker will NOT direct. No word on if David Zucker is directing. Let’s hope not.

There have been a wide variety of rumored cast members ranging from Anna Faris to Hulk Hogan, with an October 2009 report claiming the franchise would be remade. The only thing officially announced is that an April 20, 2012 date is hoped to be made.

Updated: A Trio Of New Release Dates For 2012

UPDATED: Earlier today, Todd Farmer posted “Holy cow. That’s alot of emails, FB messages and PMs. Love the excitement but nothing’s changed. We’re still doing both. icon smile Updated: A Trio Of New Release Dates For 2012 ” on his Twitter account. Sounds like Lussier and Farmer are still on board for BOTH Halloween 3D and Hellraiser!

The beginning of 2012 is already crowded with theatrical horror releases (that’s not a bad thing!), and it looks like it just got shook up a bit. Moving from it’s previous February 3 release date, Relativity Media’s House at the End of the Street is now set to bow on April 20.

The Mark Tonderai helmed film, which centers on a teen girl (Jennifer Lawrence) who moves with her mom to a new town and learns that their home is across the street from a house where a double murder took place, will now go head to head with Dimension’s Scary Movie 5. The film has been rumored to be in production of some sort since 2006, after its predecessor took in $41 million opening weekend. It’ll hit theaters April 20, 2012.

Speaking of films stuck in development hell, looks like Dimension is fast-tracking Halloween 3D (again!), with a release date of October 26, 2012. Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer are currently working on the Hellraiser reboot for the Weinsteins, which means they’re either shifting their focus or a new team is being brought in. Expect the rumors to start flying over the next few days.
