Mortimer And Robertson Go ‘Ballistic’ In June!

Adam Egypt Mortimer has teamed up with the legendary artist Darick Robertson (“Transmetropolitan”), for a new comic from Blask Mask Studios called “Ballistic”. The book marks Robertson’s return to an urban sci-fi setting. Mortimer says about the miniseries, “It’s set after an eco-apocalypse, in a city where all technology is bio-engineered, bio-mimetic, alive, and literally insane. The story is about a hapless would-be bank robber and his psychotic talking gun.”

We’ve got a three page preview below and the first of five issues drops on June 26th. READ MORE

Blumhouse Teams With Chris Morgan On Untitled Sci-Fi Movie

Jason Blum tucks another project under his belt. It’s interesting, I sort of feel like Blumhouse is entering a “Phase 2″ where they start casting a wider thematic net. I’m excited to see if The Purge lives up to its trailer and I’m VERY curious about the super-meta take on The Town That Dreaded Sundown remake.

So hopefully this project he’s putting together with Fast Five writer Chris Morgan continues that trend. For now I’ll call it Untitled Jasom Blum/Chris Morgan Sci-Fi. Per The Hollywood Reporter, it’s “a low-budget sci-fi movie project.” Morgan will produce with Blum but won’t write, those duties fall to Christopher Denham (writer of the unreleased Area 51; actor in Argo),

The film “centers on a group of students who invent a new technology with ramifications that go far beyond their control.” Both Blum and Morgan have deals with Universal, so it would likely fall there. But there’s no way of telling just yet.

Advance Review: Planetoid #3

The third installment of Image Comics and Ken Garing’s Planetoid hits shelves this week, adding a much needed human element to the arc. Garing’s sporadic use of dialogue has thus far allowed the art of his comic to define the mood; bleak swathes of metallic wasteland dominated almost every panel of the first 2 issues, giving the comic a pervasive hopelessness. However, with Silas’ help, the ragtag group of survivors undergo a stunning transformation. Read on for the skinny… READ MORE

[Double Dip This!] ‘Total Recall’ Mind-Bending Edition

Total Recall was one of the first DVDs I bought more than a decade ago, and has sat proudly on my shelf since. In the early days of the format, collector sets were insanely expensive – especially for a kid in high school – and Paul Verhoeven’s sci-fi/action spectacle was one of the first that was introduced at a reasonable price point (and in a Mars tin no less!). The transfer was great at the time and the DVD was packed with special features, including an unintentionally hilarious commentary that ranks as one of my all-time favorites. READ MORE

Theatrical Trailer For Sci-Fi/Horror ‘Ombis’ Ready To Take Over Earth!

Last month we premiered the second teaser DefTone Pictures Studios slimy and cool looking Ombis, and now we have the full length theatrical trailer!

DefTone Pictures Studios’ Ombis is a 1950′s styled sci-fi movie set in modern times. It’s the tale of an invasion of an alien virus which lands via meteorite in the small town of Metzburgh. Metzburgh is a former industrial town whose glory days are long past but whose residents are carrying on with their daily lives: loving each other and living life as best they can. In the midst of this idealistic backdrop, enter the hideous virus Ombis, which is intent on taking over the planet Earth and changing its residents into a host for a new species.

The only thing that can stop Ombis is Nemesis, an alien from the same home planet as the virus who was sent here to contain the alien scourge. The Nemesis’ disregard for the human race puts him in a position to ensure that the Ombis virus will be eradicated since he doesn’t care about collateral damage and will use any means necessary to destroy his enemy. The real story of Ombis, however, is the human struggle of the residents of Metzburgh: to fight for their village and for their very survival.

Ombis is based on a short story by Steigert and was written by him, Janeen Avery, Mark Mendola, and Terry Kimmel. The cast features Richard Satterwhite (Sheriff Thomas Brackett), Sara Manzella (Lucy), Jason John Beebe (Mark), Alexander Sloan McBryde (Mr. Gray), and Richard Winiatowski (Nemesis). Also in the film is Lynn Lowry, who has appeared in such films as Paul Schrader’s Cat People (1982) and George A Romero’s The Crazies (1973). Lynn will be playing a vital role in the conclusion of the sci-fi/horror flick.

You can check out the theatrical trailer for Ombis inside, along with another teaser for the film. at the end of July 2012. READ MORE

Lady Gaga To Make Acting Debut In Men In Black 3?

ladygagabadromance Lady Gaga To Make Acting Debut In Men In Black 3?
According to a possible slip from Will Smith, pop star Lady Gaga might very well be making her Hollywood acting debut in the upcoming sci-fi comedy Men In Black 3
Smith stated, “We have a couple of celebrity cameos, but I cannot reveal who they are. We must keep as a surprise that Lady Gaga appears.”
If she is in the movie, make up and wardrobe won’t have to do much. Just tell her to show up as she normally dresses and they can kick back and take a breather. Hell, just give ‘em the day off.

[Random Cool] ‘Apogee Of Fear’ The First Sci-Fi Horror Film Actually Shot In Space!

ApogeeLand12112 [Random Cool] Apogee Of Fear The First Sci Fi Horror Film Actually Shot In Space!

That guy you see in the picture above is Richard Garriott, and he shot Apogee Of fear, an 8 minute sci-fi horror short. And he shot it in space. For real!

Apparently Garriott visited the international space station in 2008 as on a paid civilian trip. The screenplay was written by Tracy Hickman and two NASA astronauts and a Russian cosmonaut served as the crew.

There was some doubt that that short would get released due to the intergalactic equivalent of not having a film permit (NASA says Garriott’s film was outside the scope of his agreement with them), but that seems to have been cleared up now. Perhaps we can se Apogee Of Fear in the near future.

Per Wired, “NASA is working with Richard Garriott to facilitate the video’s release. While the project was not part of his original Space Act agreement with NASA, everyone involved had the best of intentions. We hope to resolve the remaining issues expeditiously, and we appreciate Richard’s cooperation and his ongoing efforts to get people excited about the future of space exploration.

Thanks to Jonathan Barkan for passing this info along. What do you guys think? Want to see a short horror film actually shot in space? READ MORE

‘Devil’ Star Falls for Repace in ‘Prometheus’

I love when a project is shrouded in mystery, thus I truly hope Twentieth Century Fox can contain the true elements surrounding Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, the quasi-Alien prequel starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, and Rafe Spall.

Deadline reports this afternoon that Devil star Logan Marshall-Green has landed a role in the science fiction film that Scott next directs. He will play the role of Holloway, a crewman on the space ship and the love interest for the character played by Noomi Rapace. This was a role that a lot of young actors chased…

The original script was by Jonathan Spaihts, but the most recent draft is by Damon Lindelof (“Lost”). Shooting begins shortly in the UK.
