Anthrax To Release New EP ‘Anthems’

Thrash metal legends Anthrax will be releasing an 8-track EP entitled Anthems on March 19th in N. America. The EP features six covers from band such as Rush, Cheap Trick, Boston, and more, and two Anthrax tracks. For their cover of Boston’s “Smokin’,” the band brought in keyboardist Fred Mandel, who has recorded with Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, Queen, Elton John, and many more.

Drummer Charlie Benante comments on the Boston cover, saying, “If ever there were a perfect first album, it’s Boston’s first album. The harmony leads they did would later be heard by Iron Maiden, which of course would lead to thrash metal.

Vocalist Joey Belladonna, “These are all bands I grew up with and have listened to forever. It’s just great music. I had fun singing these songs and I was happy recording together with Anthrax, doing classic rock songs. Fun stuff!READ MORE

Anthrax Pick Replacement Guitarist For Upcoming Tours

Thrash metal legends Anthrax recently announced the shocking news that lead guitarist Rob Caggiano had quit the band, just a month before a heavy touring schedule was set to begin. However, the band also stated that they would not be hosting auditions for a new lead guitarist. The reason for that is now obvious as it has been announced that Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais will be filling in as lead guitarist while the band tours over the next few months.

Scott Ian states, “Jon is a bro and he’s also a total fucking ripper. I’ve worked with him twice before on side projects and he tears it up. I’m excited to have him on my right burning up the stage with Anthrax. 13′s gonna be a good year.

Donais adds, “I grew up on Anthrax, they’re the thrash scene, they’re one of The Big Four, I’d be crazy to not want to play with them. Initially, Rob called and told me he was leaving the band, and asked if I’d be interested in filling in. Then Scott called me and everything fell into place. Rob and I are using Skype to work on solos and other guitar parts, so he’s being great. I also have to give special thanks to my band – Brian, Matt, Jason and Ed – who have been incredibly supportive and encouraged me to do this.

You can see all tour dates that Donais will be on below. READ MORE

Wacken Open Air 2013 Sold Out Almost A Year In Advance

It’s no secret that the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany is probably the largest metal festival in the world. Drawing in tens of thousands of people from across the globe, this festival brings some of the biggest names in hard rock and metal as well as showing the more underground, extreme acts that people would otherwise have no chance to see.

Now, the 2013 incarnation of this extremely popular festival is officially sold out. Let me rephrase that in a way that should have a mind-blowing effect on you: Wacken Open Air has sold 75,000 tickets almost one year in advance. There is one set price for tickets ($140) and they are sold on a first come, first served basis for the Aug 1st – 3rd festival. Without knowing the full line up for the show, people have spent $140 plus fees and postage. It’s unbelievable but it also says that Wacken is doing something right. They have been selling out the festival for several years now and it looks like there is no sign of them stopping.

Below is a list of bands that are so far confirmed to play at the show (a TON more will be added over the next months, so keep an eye out at the official website to stay up-to-date) READ MORE

Anthrax Discusses ‘Among The Living’ With Google Play

Anthrax caught up with Google Play to put together an audiobiography telling the story of their 1986 Gold-certified album Among The Living. Guitarist Scott Ian and singer Joey Belladonna went over the history of the album, from the recording process with famed producer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix) to mixing in the Bahamas and the sold-out tour that followed the release. It’s a pretty damn cool interview and well worth checking out here.

Among The Living came out during what might be considered the best year in thrash metal history. Metallica‘s Master Of Puppets, Slayer‘s Reign In Blood, and Megadeth‘s Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying were all released that year.

Anthrax will be hitting the road to co-headline the third leg of the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel tour. All dates can be seen below. READ MORE

Anthrax’s Scott Ian Blogs About His ‘The Walking Dead’ Zombie Experience

Although there were no other details, we were the first to tell you that Anthrax’s Scott Ian was transformed into a zombie on the set of the now-filming second season f AMC’s “The Walking Dead”.

The other day Ian took to his official blog where he detailed the experience and posted a assault of behind-the-scenes imagery.

Next was making sure I could convincingly walk like a corpse. I just did what felt natural, started with a broken ankle which would cause me to lean, let my arm swing like dead weight, head forward, blackened teeth (Black Tooth!) gnashing. I showed my walk to zombie pro Joe (didn’t get his last name) and he approved. He said I looked dead! No walking notes.” said Ian. “No zombie faux pas (typical rookie mistake would be arms up like Frankenstein). I guess I am just genetically wired to play the undead,” he jokes. Click the link for more images and the full blog.

“The Walking Dead” returns this October will a full 13-episode season.

AMC In More Hot Water Regarding ‘Walking Dead’ Firing; Anthrax’s Scott Ian a Zombie?!

Not only has Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian put on display an image of him as a zombie (pictured inside) from the set of AMC’s now filming second season of “The Walking Dead,” more juicy madness is pouring salt on the wounds that has now become a public fist fight.

“Sons of Anarchy” producer Kurt Sutter took to his twitter account to share his thoughts on the AMC firing of showrunner/director Frank Darabont.

No one else wants to fucking say it, but the greed of ‘Mad Men’ is killing the other two best shows on TV – ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Walking Dead,’ ” he said. “Why Darabont got fired – ['Mad Men''s showrunner Matthew] Weiner. He held AMC hostage, broke their bank, budgets were slashed, shit rolled down hill onto Gilligan and Frank.

Darabont reacted strongly to slashed budgets. He made mistakes, he was fired. No creative in town will trust AMC to back up their artists.

These sentiments were echoed in our story posted yesterday. You’ll find more here. Maybe this public lashing at AMC will embarrass them into doing things correctly?
