Showtime took to Ballroom 20 this past Thursday night to promote the upcoming seventh season of “Dexter.” They actually covered a variety of interesting topics. How much does Deb know? What’s the best “Dexter” kill of all time? What advice would Season 1 Dexter give Season 7 Dexter? Who is Yvonne Strahovski playing? How many YouTube embeds can Showtime upload at once?

For those yet to be aquatinted with the show, it follows likeable Miami police forensics expert named Dexter (Michael C. Hall) moonlights as a serial killer of criminals who he believes have escaped justice.

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] Footage From NBC’s “Revolution” Panel

Premiering this fall (September 17 to be exact) is NBC’s new genre drama “Revolution”, which made a big splash at the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend. Now we have footage and interviews from their panel (although it skips over footage from the show itself).

“What would you do without it all? In “Revolution”, an epic adventure thriller from “Supernatural”’s Eric Kripke, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Iron Man’s Jon Favreau, a family struggles to reunite in a post-apocalyptic landscape of empty cities, local militias and heroic freedom fighters where every single piece of technology — phones, computers, cars, even lights — has mysteriously blacked out … forever.”

“Revolution” stars Billy Burke (Twilight films), Tracy Spiridakos (“Being Human”), Anna Lise Phillips (Animal Kingdom), Zak Orth (Wet Hot American Summer), Graham Rogers (“Memphis Beat”), J.D. Pardo (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2), Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad), David Lyons (“The Cape”), Maria Howell (“The Vampire Diaries”) and Tim Guinee (Iron Man films) and is executive produced by Kripke, J.J. Abrams (“Fringe”) and Bryan Burk (“Fringe”).

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] Great New Posters For ‘ParaNorman’ Exhumed From The Past!

Well, not literally the past. But Focus Features has commissioned a great series of old school posters for ParaNorman, and they definitely take me back to the time when movie posters were considered an art form. I think we’re beginning to see the resurgence of some respect for the one-sheet actually, stuff like this (along with the Mondo prints and several other boutique designers) is a good sign.

The film takes place in “a small town that comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.”

The voice cast includes Academy Award nominee Casey Affleck (The Killer Inside Me ), Tempestt Bledsoe (“The Cosby Show”), Jeff Garlin (Toy Story 3), John Goodman (Red State, Matinee, Monsters, Inc.), Bernard Hill (Titanic), Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air), Leslie Mann (Rio), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Fright Night 3D, How to Train Your Dragon), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) and Tony and Emmy Award winner Elaine Stritch (“30 Rock”), Tucker Albrizzi (Good Luck Charlie), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), Jodelle Ferland (Case 39, Silent Hill, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse).

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] The Art Of ‘Frankenweenie’ Exhibition

Earlier this evening at the San Diego Comic-Con I attended “The Art Of Frankenweenie Exhibition”. Hosted by Disney, this was an in-depth look at the materials that acclaimed director Tim Burton used for his latest stop-motion animated feature film. The exhibition premiered in Barcelona before making its U.S. debut today. When the tour is complete it will have visited seven countries including Spain, France, England, Japan, Mexico, Canada and the U.S.A.

Producer Allison Abbate was onhand at the gallery and guided me through the pieces. We’re not just talking sketches (which were of course present), but actual sets used in the stop-motion rendering for the film. And whether or not you’re growing tired of Burton’s signature themes, there’s no denying his talent as a visual artist. Seeing his work rendered in three dimensional, intricately detailed miniatures (amongst backgrounds that provide them with depth) is pretty captivating.

Abbate explained to me that principal photography – which is always lengthy on these types of films – took about two and a half years. She also spoke about how personal the project is for Burton. Not only is it based on his very first short, but it deals with the grief he felt when losing his first pet. The classroom scene in particular (as seen below) contains a number of references to Burton’s influences with some of he children representing the “Frankenstein” and “Igor” iconography quite accurately. And every director has his signature. Concerning the kitchen scene depicted she remarked, “and of course this is the Tim Burton take on domesticity that we all know so well.”

Frankenweenie was filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D. The talented voice cast includes Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, Robert Capron, Conchata Ferrell and Winona Ryder. Directed by Burton from a screenplay by John August, the film hits U.S. theaters on October 5th, 2012.

Update: AMC has released a new video that features Special Effects Make-Up Designer Greg Nicotero, also added inside.

Last night AMC aired a clip from the upcoming Third Season of “The Walking Dead“ after a pre comic-con Season 2 marathon. And it contains one of your favorite characters from the comics, Michonne, doing her thing. I’d expect a lot more of this stuff to hit right before or during SDCC, but this is a pretty cool preview!

The show, “tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.”

“The Walking Dead” SDCC panel will be on Friday, July 13 at 1:25pm in Hall H. Expect some news out of that one! “Talking Dead” Host Chris Hardwick will moderate “The Walking Dead“ SDCC panel on Friday, July 13 at 1:25pm in Hall H and now there’s a poster for the event that gives us an even bigger taste of Season 3. I’m sort of trepidatious about the whole thing taking place inside of a prison but, more and more, that appears to be what’s in store.

“The cast and producers of AMC’s breakout hit series “The Walking Dead” and “Breaking Bad” will participate in hour-long panels at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, CA. Moderated by “Talking Dead” host Chris Hardwick, “The Walking Dead” panelists will discuss what fans can expect in the highly anticipated third season, which debuts in October.”

[SDCC '12] If You Needed One Reason To Attend: NECA Announces Black & White Freddy Krueger Figure Exclusive!!

Say what? The San Diego Comic Con is so overbearing and overpopulated that it makes you want to vomit? Me too! But there’s something awesome lurking in the darkness of the sweat-stanked convention floor. NECA will be selling an exclusive black & white Freddy Krueger from the comic book sequence of A Nightmare on Elm Street V: The Dream Child! Now there’s a reason/excuse to stand in line and overpay for something.

“There’s never been a better argument in favor of insomnia than ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street,’ and for the latest in our series of San Diego Comic Con exclusive items, we’ve got the Gloved One himself, Freddy Krueger, as he appeared in the fifth installment of the franchise, ‘The Dream Child.’ The movie, which came out in 1989, has a cult within the cult of the larger series, and — what really matters — it features some of Freddy’s best kills ever.

Best of all might be Mark Gray. A comic book geek before it was cool to be a comic book geek, Mark fantasized about getting the girl, being the hero, etc. So what did Freddy do? Well, Freddy sucked him into a comic book world, to live out his worst nightmare, of course! He is the dream master, after all. Mark — brave and hopeless soul that he was — fought back by turning himself into his own superhero, The Phantom Prowler, and blowing Freddy to tiny little bits. It didn’t work, Freddy came back to life, turned Mark into paper and sliced him to shreds with his always-terrifying glove.

But, to honor Mark’s efforts and to honor the series as we always do, we’ve included an actual foldable, sliceable paper recreation of Mark Gray with this grayscale 7″ Freddy action figure, which captures the look of that death scene and the comic book world.
