Season 6 of “True Blood” will be hitting HBO later this year. After a 5th Season that found a lot of you guys reinvigorated in the show after a sub-par 4th outing, I expect that interest in Bon Temps is still high. To that end, the show has recently added 2 actresses to its roster. Amelia Rose Blaire (pictured above; “90210″) and Jurnee Smollett (pictured below; “Friday Night Lights”).
Per Deadline, “Blaire will play Willa Burrell, the daughter of Louisiana Gov. Truman Burrell (Arliss Howard), who has long clashed with her father over vampire rights. Smollett will play wide-eyed Nicole Wright, who is not concerned with money and more concerned with the common good and doing what’s right. Blaire’s role is recurring that could become regular, and Smollett will be a regular.”
More importantly, how do you think Alan Ball’s departure will affect the show? READ MORE
HBO just aired the last episode of “True Blood”‘s Fifth Season, “Save Yourself”, last night. Not only did it mark the last episode of the season, it marked creator Alan Ball’s last episode as the series’ showrunner. Now we have a video (which apparently aired before last night’s episode) of his goodbye to the show.
Listen, I’ve been fairly vocal about the fact that I’m not a huge “True Blood” fan. I was okay with parts of the first season along with parts of the second. I liked what I saw of this season (I think I saw 4 episodes this year) more than whatever was happening with the show last year but ultimately couldn’t bring myself to like it as much as some of you guys do. It’s just not my thing.
That being said – respect. Ball really did create something special here. As much as it’s just not for me – it resonates with a huge amount of people and there’s something to be said for that. It’s a tricky thing to pull off for one year, let alone five. And Ball’s prior show, Six Feet Under, is one of my all time favorite programs – so I know I’ll at least be tuning in to check out whatever he does next. I’m legitimately excited to see what he comes up with next.
Godspeed, Alan Ball. At least you gave me Jessica. Head inside for the video. READ MORE
Tonight, HBO aired a preview from the upcoming 57th episode of “True Blood”, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” Like I said last week, I made it about 4 episodes in before I had to pull the plug on the season. You know what I want to see? A spinoff about Jessica. It’s not like I’ve watched every episode of the show (not claiming to be an expert) – but she seems like the most fleshed out character to me. If they could create a show that focussed on her instead of Sookie and Bill, and turned down the camp a little bit, that might be more fun.
In episode #57, “As the Authority proceeds with Lilith’s plan, Eric plots his escape. Gran directs Sookie to a clue to her parents’ murderer. Andy and Jason search for leads to the identities of the people behind the shifter killings. Alcide recalls his pack induction; Arlene gets caught in Terry and Patrick’s crossfire; Steve gets a new pet.”

HBO has released two new clips from the upcoming 56th episode of “True Blood”, “Somebody I Used To Know.” They are respectively titled “Glimmer Of Hope” and “What Happened?” Which is something I’d like to know. I tried to follow this season for you guys – I really did. I made it about 4 episodes in before I had to pull the plug. I get why a lot of people like it, but they must see something in it that I can’t.
In episode #56, “At Authority headquarters, the Chancellors revel in the afterglow of recent events; Eric gets a message from Godric; Bill is shaken by a distant memory. Helped by Claude and his sisters, Sookie and Jason visit the site of their parents’ deaths, with shocking results. An emotional Luna tries to walk in Sam’s shoes. Hoyt’s new pals bring him a present; Lafayette leads a séance to purge a curse; J.D. ups the stakes of his fight with Alcide.”

I still haven’t caught up with “True Blood” this year. Is it better than last year? I’m hearing some iffy things. Regardless, ratings seem to be high (if not a bit softer than before) and it’s likely that some of you are probably pretty excited about this “Authority” business. We now have a featurette that explains them somewhat, along with a preview of this week’s episode “Whatever I Am, You Made Me” (which airs this Sunday the 24th at 9PM ET/PT).
In this episode, “Bill and Eric barter for their lives with the Authority Chancellors and their leader, Roman (Christopher Meloni). Salome and Roman enlist a new ally in the face of Russell’s return. Sookie goes to Fangtasia to ask for help from Pam, who is still caught up in her memories of Eric and the strange murders at the Comstock Brothel. Andy’s dalliance with Holly (Lauren Bowles) comes back to bite him in the butt; later, he’s visited by Gordon (Steve Rankin) and Barbara Pelt (Linda Purl), who are searching for Debbie. Jason bumps into an old high school teacher, but their reunion brings up conflicting feelings.”

I didn’t catch “True Blood” on Sunday. How was it? Better than Season 4? Either way we have a couple of clips from this Sunday’s upcoming episode, “Authority Always Wins“. In the first one Tara – who I guess is a vampire now – is going some cray stuff. I’m guessing second clip would also be pretty crazy if I had any context at all for it.
In this week’s episode “Authority Always Wins”, “At the Vampire Authority headquarters in New Orleans, Bill and Eric meet Salome (Valentina Cervi) and become acquainted with the Authority’s interrogation techniques. Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) recalls her human life as the madam of the Comstock Brothel in San Francisco, and her first encounter with Eric. Werewolves J.D. (Louis Herthum) and Rikki (Kelly Overton) pay tribute to Marcus, but Alciderefuses to participate or take his rightful place as the new packmaster. Martha Bozeman (Dale Dickey) shows up wanting to see her granddaughter, causing conflict for Sam and Luna (Janina Gavankar). Fearing Russell’s return, Sookie procures a home-protection system; Arlene (Carrie Preston) tries to get to the bottom of Terry’s erratic behavior; Steve Newlin stops by with an offer for Jessica; and Jason feels the brunt of his womanizing ways.”

HBO just aired the second trailer for the 5th Season of “True Blood”, and it’s even more action packed than the first (and it’s certainly a million times more worthy of your attention than that 14 second “Dexter” teaser). Maybe, just maybe, this show’s on an upward swing?
“True Blood” returns to HBO Sunday, June 10 at 9 PM ET/PT. The show’s fifth season will contain 12 episodes and will be the last season of the program overseen by show runner Alan Ball.
“Mixing romance, suspense, mystery, and humor, the Emmy-nominated show takes place at a time when vampires have come out of the coffin and follows the on-and-off romance between waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people’s thoughts, and 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).”
