The-Following

[TV] “The Following” Must Have Some Following Since It Just Got Renewed

I still haven’t gotten past the pilot of “The Following”, but apparently a lot of you have! Per Variety, “Warner Bros. TV’s “The Following” bowed strongly in January in the Monday 9 p.m. timeslot, and sees benefits from Live+7 ratings (particularly DVR use), which places the frosh drama in the No. 2 broadcast drama spot this season in 18-49. Fox ordered 15 episodes for its second season, the same order as its first run.

The FBI estimates there are currently over 300 active serial killers in the United States. What would happen if these killers had a way of communicating and connecting with each other? What if they were able to work together and form alliances across the country? What if one brilliant psychotic serial killer was able to bring them all together and activate a following? Welcome to “The Following”, the terrifying new thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the Scream franchise) and director Marcos Siega (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dexter”).

“The Following” airs Monday nights on Fox at 9/8c.

[Book Review] Small Press Roundup: Serial Killers, Zombie Cats, And More!

For every major release in horror fiction, there are dozens that fall through the cracks. The e-book distribution model cuts both ways––while it’s easier to access small- and self-published novels than ever before, the big cheese publishers still seem to be benefiting more than anybody. Part of it may be due to the overall low quality of self-published horror fiction, but there are undeniably a few winners out there. You just have to dig a bit. Not every book gets table space at Barnes and Noble.

Beyond the break you’ll find a fistful of capsule reviews of small press offerings, including Zombie Cat, Video Night, Ted’s Score, and the second edition of Zombie Movies: The Ultimate Guide. I know that many B-D readers aren’t the type to shy away from indie horror in any form––be it book, comic, video game, or movie. So if you’ve read any good small press horror this year, drop a note in the comments. I’ve received several excellent horror fiction recommendations from our readers in the past, and I’m always looking for more. READ MORE

TV: Like Serial Killers? Like Kevin Williamson? Like Kevin Bacon? Here’s “The Following”

The Following Header 51412 TV: Like Serial Killers? Like Kevin Williamson? Like Kevin Bacon? Heres The Following

I’m not sure if I have any more room left in my day, let alone another hour to dedicate to another TV show. This is where you guys come into play. As someone who hasn’t ever seen an episode of “The Vampire Diaries”, I’m not terribly inclined to watch Fox’s “The Following” (aka the new Kevin Williamson show). But I like Kevin Bacon and I like Natalie Zea (“Justified”, The Other Guys). So I’m asking one of you guys to check this thing out when it premieres midseason and tell me if it’s worth a d*mn. It’s also got Shawn Ashmore for all you Frozen and Mother’s Day fans out there.

Welcome to “The Following”, the terrifying new thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the ‘Scream’ franchise). When notorious serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy, “Rome”) escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree, the FBI calls former agent Ryan Hardy (Emmy-nominated actor Kevin Bacon, ‘X-Men: First Class’) to consult on the case. Having since withdrawn from the public eye, Hardy was responsible for Carroll’s capture nine years ago, after Carroll murdered 14 female students on the Virginia college campus where he taught literature.

Interview: Victor Salva Talks Move to ‘Rosewood Lane’

Finally gearing up for production is director Victor Salva’s Rosewood Lane, which follows a talk show psychiatrist (Rose McGowan) who returns to her hometown following the death of her father and becomes the target of the malicious neighborhood paperboy who stalked and murdered him. The film, which will also star Jeepers Creepers vet Ray Wise, has been a pet project of Salva’s for several years now, and it will be the director’s first feature effort since 2006′s Peaceful Warrior, as well as his first horror film since Jeepers Creepers 2 in 2003.

B-D recently chatted with Salva to get more details on the project, in addition to asking the burning question: will we ever see Jeepers Creepers 3, currently in limbo due to distributor MGM’s recent financial difficulties?
